Shopify TSL 9 is a 32-player double elimination tournament awarding $40,000 USD and 2540 EPT points. All players will battle through the double-elimination bracket from July 29 to August 7, with games happening every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The remaining 12 players will be flown to the Netherlands to compete offline at Team Liquid's Alienware Training Facility from September 2 to 4.
Please note: Players must change their display name when signing up with their player name or risk incorrect seeding. We will not be liable for any incorrect seeding if your player name does not match our records.
For double-elimination qualifiers with over 16 participants: the bracket will be single-elimination up to the Round of 16 (Ro16). From Round of 16 onward, the bracket will be double-elimination.

Looked worse than you would expect for the last qualifier.. I hope ESL will lift the 12 KR spots policy for their next 3rd party event, its just way to many. Give them 6-8 and the other 6-8 spots to server qualifiers. IF more koreans show up, they could still qualify there

If most of the Koreans who are allowed to travel participated, I think 12 spots would be fine. Perhaps if the prize pool were a little less top heavy more would try to qualify? Even with travel paid for, I can see why 700$ for 9th-12th might not be enough to convince good but not great Koreans to go to the trouble of travelling.

We just had a tournament where the top 4 were all Korean and we're back with the "why would they put in so many Koreans?"
KR still has more depth than the other regions and definitely deserves the slots. I'm sure some of the players that skipped this one will sign up for the next 2. Even if you remove Rogue/Trap/Cure due to military service travel restrictions and Maru doesn't attend I'd still take the 16th ranked KR player over the 12th best EU player handily in terms of upset potential. Just look at what Ryung did at Katowice and I don't even think he's rank 16 in KR.
Thank you to all the players who took the time to participate while dealing with jetlag, Covid, or other travel related issues! In the future we'll consider how to proceed with qualifiers with additional buffer time between events that require travel. Looking forward to having the rest of the qualifiers play out smoothly over the next week.

Pretty sure only zerg and terran players would count that as protoss winning a premier event
if someone off races as P and wins a non-mirror for a final, I'll count it! Protoss players would just have to admit that Maru is the best protoss player in the world which would be pretty hilarious.
