this is without any doubt the worst format ever
because only 2 players per nation and to much weight on 2vs2 the reason why star favorites are out is because to much weight on 2vs2 and the reason why deep stack country germany is out because only 2 players per country and the 2vs2
this is not a nation cup , its a random 2player 2vs2 cup
the table tennis format with 4 players and less weight on 2vs2 would be the logical choice
not many viewers want to see so many 2vs2 and the players dont want to train that because its not played at other tournaments
Neeb Astrea is definitely up there in terms of 1v1 ratings but they have some clear disadvantage when it comes to 2v2 because they both play protoss and cannot mitigate protoss related problems. We saw it clearly when they played against protoss + terran, because T can easily tip the scale in mass phoenix vs mass phoenix. Probably the same issue if/when they play against protoss + zerg

I don't like this format this much, but it feels like picking a good format for Nation Wars is really hard. I think something like bo5 Proleague format would be ideal to reward depth, but considering how few countries have 4 strong players we'd get so many lopsided matches. The problem is that a true nation cup which rewards depth would be extremely boring - South Korea would win every time, Germany would be a clear number two, and countries like Taiwan/China/USA/France/Poland/Russia would round out the good teams (might be forgetting a country.) All other countries would be one or two pros + some people who are on the fringes of regionals.
As long as there's a fun format I can look past Nationwars not being an accurate measure of the strength of nations in Starcraft because I think a tournament which accurately measured that would be quite boring.

Neeb-Astrea is actually probably amongst the strongest teams. Would have only ranked Korea and maybe Germany above it, and now Germany is knocked out.
Yes I agree. Just poking a bit at the idea that NA as a whole only deserves 2 slots in international premiers. Neeb beating Reynor here suddenly makes that even more silly than it was before. Will be especially fun if Canada does well.

Canada is without Scarlett and in a group with no EU teams. Not much chance to work on the narrative.

How does a well doing NA team with the 2 consistently good players from the region make a point for more slots (than maybe a third)? For me the novelty factor of the 2v2s has already worn off and idk the event doesn't have the hype the last ones had.

The 2v2s are super fun. Finally something refreshing to watch. Yes, these nation wars dont really mean anything in terms of results and to determine which nation is the best, because the format does not support that, but its entertaining for the viewer and thats what counts the most anyway.

Yeah this should not be taken too seriously, I think this is meant as a fun format where everyone has a chance. And I agree it's very entertaining and refreshing to see some 2v2s

Just ignore all the germans complaining here and elsewhere We are just molding, because we are scewed by the format, becaus we have exactly 3 great Players and from face value should be clear 2nd behind KR and infront of anyone else
Still hurts tbh But as said, NW isn t about that, but they tried to find something, where as many nations as possible can participate and actually can have a fighting Chance as well

a german complaining about "all" the germans here and "elsewhere" well done, putting all germans on the line when you just beeing offended by my single post i was the only german writing about how the format sux for top heavy and for deep roster countrys you have some serious anti german hard left anti patriotism issues when you talk about your own people like that , also having only non german players as your favorites (reynor max pax clem in your profile) is rounding up your picture
this format not only sux for deep roster like korea ore germany , where the 3/4/5 player is better than the 3/4/5 player from other countrys but the format also sux for the top of the line 1 player countrys like italy denmark and so on
this is just a fun 2vs2 tournament nothing more nothing less
