Giant heavy people jumping really high is dangerous. Or planting your foot behind you while getting ready to sprint and accidentally stepping on a referee's foot in the process. This season seems to just have some weird stuff in addition to the fatigue injuries. Totally, anything can happen and will happen when people have trained their body's to the absolute limit. Which with less rest is going to happen even more. There is only so much force a joint, ligament,, muscle, whatever can withstand. If landing mechanics was a thing (and I wish it was less injuries would be great) you would be able to pick out the people who had poor ones and either correct it or at least predict future injuries. A guy able to do that would be worth millions upon millions for a NBA teams and wouldn't be making click baity you-tube videos AFTER people got hurt. Landing mechanics are 100% a thing... It's the practical application mid-game where the difficulties arise. These guys are not going to give up points in a close game just to avoid landing in a way that has a x% higher chance of leading to a chronic injury, 5 years from now. Most injuries caused by mechanical issues arise from repetitive stress, and not one-time "Oops, I landed the wrong way!" circumstances. I'm not saying how you land does not matter. I'm saying it is a junk science claiming that people after they are injured have it. If you can't determine it ahead of time it is useless, other then making clickbaity YouTube videos. I mean kobe who had a exceptionally long career, and a crazy amount of minutes and this guy made a video about him after he finally got injured. My mind could be changed, someone just needs to be able to look at a bunch of college players or sooner, pick out those with bad landing mechanics and then that group will have a higher amount of injuries. It should not be hard if it is an actual thing one can measure and identify. I'm not even saying it needs to be correctable, which would be awesome, just some level of predictability. Otherwise it is as useful as saying some people are just built better and then whenever someone gets hurt saying "not them ". Sure there is some truth to it, but it's useless.
Your second paragraph is part of the reason why along with what everyone else has said and likely a bunch more.

The NBA is truly doomed. We had 2 colossal Giannis games and 3 finals games without a single post here. Lol.
|
I think it's the site not the NBA. The series has been strange so far in that all 3 games were not really that close. Booker was no where to be found in game 3 and Middleton in game 2.
What we should be talking about is the dunk over PJ Tucker, OH MY!!!!!!!

Kawhi getting surgery for a partially torn acl. No word about him being upset or anything with doctors, looks like the clippers were keeping it quiet for gamesmanship or whatever. We will know how he feels soon enough as he is either going to opt in to his player option, opt out and resign or opt out and go elsewhere. My bet is he stays he wanted to be LA, they can win with PG13 and Balmer has made everything as nice as a owner can.

hes opting out, regardless of whatever hes going to do, opting out is the most beneficial for him.
on the post thing, i havent even watched the games cause i dont really care about either teams lol, id prefer the bucks to win, but not enough to actually tune in.
but the viewership is up from last year, but WAY down from 2019, and thats with the raptors (their market doesnt count toward the ratings) involved.
|
To maximize his income the staying in allows him to sign a year longer and for more with the clips. Now given his injury history its really unlikely but that is why people leave it as a option. The strange bird right rules.
Bucks don't really count as a market either. The Raps might have more American fans then them! Lots of canucks down south

The freak leaving no doubt tonight, he'll he turned into Steve Nash from the free throw line even. What a monster!

Happy Milwaukeean here. Normally I don't follow basketball very closely, but first championship in 50 years... I suppose I can make an exception just this once

insane FMVP performance from giannis. remember when he almost got severely injured against the nets?
|
Giannis was just unreal last night . There has been only one player I've seen in my lifetime that has been as dominant down the stretch of a finals series: MJ. Don't get me wrong, Giannis ist NOT on the level of MJ yet. But if you look at his accolades, the MJ comparison kinda holds up. Both Giannis and MJ had won MVP, FMVP, All Star MVP and DPOY at 26. Giannis also has won MIP.
This is Giannis' league now. I'm also happy for the whole Bucks team. They built around Giannis and Khris and got the best reward possible. Gutted for CP3, might have been his last good chance at winning that damn ring. But he did everything he could. He also looked kinda gassed last night. Ayton being absolutely lost also didn't help, but that kid is still so young. He's gonna be a great player. Bucks defended insanely well, especially Jrue was excellent. Booker had not one single easy shot last night.
Overall, I really enjoyed this season, even though something has to be done about the sheer number of games in a short span of time. Imho, it's unacceptable for a professional sports league to sacrifice the players' health for entertainment / money. In the long run, the league will suffer from it. Just from the top of my head: AD, Kawhi, Murray, Conley, Harden, Kyrie, all of them went down. (Streetclothes does go down every year, though.) Giannis also almost destroyed his knee. This has to stop. At least most players get a good rest before the next season, I'm a bit worried for the Olympic athletes. But being at the Olympics is also a once in a lifetime thing for some, so I totally get why they want to represent their country.

Good. Dude is a dirty player, flopper, crybaby, and overall represents the worst of the NBA players.

I"m on your side, I think lavine is widely overrated, he is a horribly bad defender who puts up big scoring numbers for a bad team. Most players like that get crushed but for some reason people are acting like he is the missing piece for a bunch of teams. Ball might help on the D end, but I doubt it is going to be close to enough.

At least we got a new contender for GOAT backcourt : BallZach.
Seriously though, how can the Lakers justify not making a counter offer to Caruso's 4-37 when they have full bird rights? I saw a few people arguing that they want clear books for 2023 free agency but by then Caruso would only have 2 years and 18 million at the most, an easily tradeable contract. Additionally given the top heavy nature of the Lakers roster and the fact that the Bulls have more guards on roster better than Caruso, the Lakers have a better more prominent role on a team with a better chance to win. They could have offered slightly less than the Bulls and it been a better offer to Caruso. Or made the contract structured descending, or with the same guaranteed money but a higher starting salary and a partial guarantee on the last season. All of which would make Caruso's contract in 2023 very unlikely to turn negative value.
What this comes down to is that after years of not paying the luxury tax and raking it in, the Lakers ownership was not ready to pay such a hefty tax bill to keep a useful player when the team is a top contender for a championship this year. The Lakers only have the tax MLE and *maybe* whatever they can get back in a possible Schroder sign and trade to add players above the minimum. Losing Caruso at 9m/per year is plainly stupid and an example of cheaping out.

How the duck are the bulls gonna play Ball, Caruso, and Lavine? This is just trash fire city
|
Count me in as one of the people who have no idea what the fuck the Bulls are doing. They are going all in to make the playoffs at the expense of removing any ceiling the team might have. They're planning on getting Derozan as well. So their core is going to be Vucevic, Lavine, Derozan, Markannen and Ball. That's good enough to make the playoffs but expensive enough that they have virtually no room to get any better. And they're not scaring any contenders with that team.
Knicks are kinda in the same boat. Their moves look like they want to be the strongest non-contender in a shallow East. Like those Hawks teams that would get eliminated by Lebron in the conference semifinals for 10 straight years.
