Hi Starcraft.
8 years ago I played around with hotkeys and bindings and made this thread, which ended up becoming the first popular documented usage of rapidfire.
Well I'm back and I have another idea for simplifying zerg mechanics.
Add alternate hotkeys to spawn larvae (the ability on your hatch) to match those of your unit morph hotkeys.
Now, instead of "5, s, hold d" for spamming drones, just "5, hold d".
(And you can do this for every unit you want to morph, doing multiple keybinds to the same ability by editing the .sc2hotkeys file.)
This has 2 effects. (1) Fewer different key strokes makes it simpler and faster to do. (2) You get to spend larvae as soon as it is available, which is great in the early to mid game before saturating bases.
You can still keep "s" as the main hotkey for when you want to produce specific numbers of certain units, but when you want to produce a drone as soon as the larvae is available, this is the fastest method.
Like it? Are people/pros already doing this?
Zerg forever.

I've been using this since 2014.
for pros, I only know of Sortof who is using it.

the second effect (press hatch hotkey + sit on an other hotkey to produce drones) is used in the core. select larva is J,P, and J is the hotkey for drones (for version<=5 afaik). at the start of the game, you keep J pressed, and then click on the main building. this produces a drone/probe/scv asap. later you press <hatch hotkey> + keep <J> pressed to have drones asap.
the first point might or might not be good. hotkeys will conflict with hatch/lair/hive abilities. the most important is the queen hotkey. if it is not in the way, all is good i guess. it might even be a good thing to move the ovie speed/burrow/lair/hive upgrade hotkeys out of the way. so you won't start them accidentally.
and yes it seems to be legal, Showtime uses an old but modified version (v2) of the core. i suppose his setup already uses 3+ rapidfire hotkeys (which is not possible via the game ui).

Am i right to do this for every Zerg unit, so it doesnt conflict with other keys and just never use the select larva ever again?

That seems to be the general idea. Where in-game the keybinds menu only lets you add a HotKey and an Alternative HotKey (total of 2), the hotkeys file allows you to add more, theoretically allowing you to bind it to all the same keys as the units produced from larvae.
EDIT: You're technically not never using select larvae, your first press of a bound key will be "select larvae".

Don't think zerg needs to be any easier at this point :D

Joke aside, there's something I've been seeing it more and more among the pros : It seems like there are no delay at all when they keep pressing a button for "spamming" units. Lemme explain : for all my keyboard, it takes at least 0,5 sec between the first press and the "unlimited" press. Meaning I have to wait 0,5 sec before I can see the queues of all my rax. But it seems that, for some streamers I watched, They didn't even need that time. I feel like it pretty nice imo because I think we underestimate the amount of time we spend producing units.
Edit : I know windows has some option to make the delay shorter, but the pros has it even shorter than that.
