So today will be the finals of a Red Bull AoE2 tournament and they will be showing a showmatch between two top AoE2 players and Serral and Reynor.
The finals start at 20 CET so the showmatch should be around 19 or 19.30 CET.
Don't know exactly what will happen but probably a 2v2 with mixed teams.
Will be awesome. AoE2 is a fantastic game and Hera and Viper are high skilled RTS gamers. When Viper played SC2 for a while, he was GM iirc.

Both games are awesome. I wonder if this is just for fun or if it is also part of a larger trend where SC2 players will slowly migrate to AOE2 or more likely AOE4 (when it comes out next year) given that Blizzard does not really support the game any more.

This sort of thing is what I think could help to further grow the sc2 audience. More events with other gaming communities like aoe2, smash bros, etc would be fun and beneficial to both communities.

Never played any AoE. I just know that it s very different Kind of RTS than SC. Can someone give the Basic similarities and differences between the games for someone who watches SC2 exclusivly like me?

Nifty, where will the VoDs be for us who don’t really follow the AoE scene?

For a start the civilizations aren't as different between themselves as the races are in SC2. There are also many types of resources to manage, and much more work managing workers than in SC2. Maps fill a different function than SC2, where in AoE it is more like a "map" and in SC2 it is like an arena. There are many more types of upgrades to consider in AoE, and the effects are often more incremental in my experience. You also advance between ages, which is similar to upgrading your main base for Zerg. From a spectator point of view it is much more slower than SC2, but it is every bit as intense. Micro can not be used the same way (not as precise and responsive), but it is of course important in AoE as well. So many things are different.

Are there any resources online on how to view the game of AoE2 as a spectator? Looking at the Red Bull Wololo stream, there's a lot of numbers on the screen and it's really confusing to me. I am interested in seeing the match, however.

The biggest difference is that AoE2 has four different resource types: Food, Wood, Stone, & Gold.
Certain resources are used for certain things. Food is the primary resource for building "fleshy" units like Workers and the various Soldier types. Wood and Stone are primary used for Buildings. Gold is the premium resource used for high-end things like Castles.
AoE2 has a different progression system compared to StarCraft called "Ages". As each Age is earned, more units, buildings, and upgrades become available. The best way to think of Ages is like the progression of Zerg from Hatchery to Lair to Hive.

Showmatch is starting now. (2vs2 Sc2 right now)

Maybe I am not seeing it, but why isn't there any detailed info on this (neither in OP nor in calendar). This looks super fun.
You can watch this on https://www.twitch.tv/redbull

wow. chat seems to really hate sc2 haha

Interesting that Serral is playing Terran and Reynor is play Protoss. Probably better to keep things fun & balanced by having them off-race.

The editing was quite a bit weired

Anyone have a timestamp on a twitch vod or a vod in general?

+ Show Spoiler +serral and theviper beat hera and reynor 2:0 in sc2 but lost 0:2 in aoe2
They did not show full games but rather highlighted some interesting moments I suppose. While I get the decisision to do this for braodcast reasons, when you didn't know how one of the games worked I feel like you weren't getting a lot out of it. Having Rotti cast alongside one of the aoe casters was nice cause they each could take one the role of the unknowledgeable viewer, but yeah complete games would've been nice.
I liked that they had a call with everyone after the matches and also snippets of the teams communicating during games
