With Toxic Rain / Caustic Arrow you scale directly the Chaos DoT.

https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2714125 it does according to PoB, 3:1poison to hit damage and combined 23m dps. This is achieved by getting 723% boost by increased and 1194 more damage. If the base damage of the hit of the blade is 100 damage that build does 523 damage with a hit and 1917 damage with the poison. However, it then has to take 20% of that damage, as only one fifth of the base damage is actually used. If the 1817% damage multiplier would be simply applied to the hit of the blade vortex, the damage would be far greater. Are there simply so many more ways to scale poison damage effectively compared to in this case physical spell damage that this makes sense?

If you have one watchstone and get a tier 6 or 7 map drop it is guaranteed to be for Lex Promina with that socketing strategy. If it's a tier 4 or 5 then it could be in another region as well since those also have that tier, but this is impossible to avoid because there is always overlap. You're maximizing the amount of Lex Promina drops you get with the strategy. If you skip ahead to the next step it may make more sense. Socket two watchstones into Tirn's End. Now all of your tier 8-10 drops will be in Tirn's End. This one is nice because there is no overlap. You can still only get map drops from stuff you've cleared or adjacent so keep an eye on your Zana as well to open up everything. Oki, thanks a lot for clearing that up. I have had a handful of map drops of Lex Promina T4-T6 now. I guess I just got a bit unlucky before. So far it looks like the push for the next 2 conquerers will be slow so by the time I get to them I should hopefully have enough of a higher tier map pool. Another post mentioned double dipping for ailments is gone? What did they change?

Ailments are no longer based on the scaled damage of the hit that inflicts them. Instead, they're based on the base damage of that hit, scaled by appropriate modifiers (e.g., Poison is scaled by Chaos damage, DoT, Ailment damage, etc.). This means modifiers that apply to both the hit and ailment portions don't apply twice when calculating ailment damage - instead, they apply independently to the hit's base damage when calculating the hit damage and the ailment damage, which prevents quadratic scaling like we had pre-3.0.

Essense Drain / Contagion Toxic Rain / Casutic Arrow Tricksters Carrion Golem Elementalist (Switching to necromancer in lategame) Saboteurs and mines are still fine (Ball Lightning, Toxic Rain, etc.) Most minion builds are still fine (Spectres, Zombies,DomBlow, etc.) For melee Earthshatter was more popular than Cyclone at the beginning of the league. But to be honest, the league is very advanced and a lot of items are cheap now, so probably you could play wathever you want.

New events coming up. I'm pretty excited about endless delve, should allow for some unique build opportunities. Though it may get dull doing only delve for a week; I'll probably stop at 85 or 90. I probably won't be pushing too hard, but I'll try to play each event. I'm curious how competitive the Hardcore ladder will be - previously getting Top 5 was achievable even only pushing modest hours, since the best HC players tend to flock towards SSF.

How they'll implement gems and other vendors, ascending, etc. Could be really cool. Not compared to anything they have done before, but yeah. They have done Descent (Champion) races and Endless Ledge back in the days which were pretty innovative. Also the Battle Royale was pretty different as well.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank A Soo for the Atlas guide. That really helped a lot. Due to time constraints my progress was slow and at times I had to grind an area a lot longer beyond spawning all the conquerers because I just didn't get any map drops of the next area. Especially at step 9 it took forever to get those T14 maps to drop. Maybe I'll be able to try Sirus for the first time, who knows... I'll be honest though, I would never try all this shit in HC. Like, I didn't die to any of the conquerers but I had some sketchy situations (also died quite a bit elsewhere in high level maps and Heists...). Part of that is my char, which was advertised as "tanky" with great clear and good for bosses without gear. Well, the latter two are correct but the amount of times I just got one-shot... I feel like "tanky" in standard means that 1 white mob can't hit you for more than 50% of your hit points... Hell, even my second char I built myself, after I got a bit of a grip again, feels a lot less fragile. And I didn't really build on many defenses or gave it a huge life pool like I would in HC. Just the basic minimum. Anyways, I'm enjoying the league so thanks again and sorry for the rant...

Dang wasn't around for those first two. 2013-2014? It's been a long ass time. Would really like to see stuff like this more often. Very simple, very unusual, short duration. Can't be too much dev time involved. I know they're doing these to tide people over since 3.13 got delayed a month but I wonder if they'd lead to enough temporary resurge in interest to warrant a 4-month dev cycle with more flavor stuff in between, rather than the 3 month engine they've been stretched pretty thin on lately.

Well those races were much shorter back then. Races lasted between 12 minutes and 4 hours max. Unless they did longer versions after I left, Endless Ledge and Decent Champions Races were in that range as well. I imagine Decent Champions actually took a bit of dev time.

Yeah reading a bit more it sounded more involved than I expected. I was thinking more like what they could be onto if this Delve thing goes well, clever use of assets that are already there just to provide a really unique limited-time experience for all types of players. Even stuff like mayhem/flashback are fun but at they're core it's still "the same thing" just turned up to 11. Still story acts to get through, still atlas to fill out, etc. Infinite delve is much more unique..
