I’ll keep it brief and expand if people want more detail. I recently restarted my computer so it could finally do the many, many updates it was always prompting me to do. When I restarted, my OneDrive wasn’t working, my Dropbox wasn’t working. My iCloud wasn’t working but I don’t use that much. I managed to get OD working by moving the folder (I needed to move for space reasons anyway, so that’s no biggy). Dropbox no joy. Thought it might be my antivirus misbehaving with firewalls blocking certain applications, but doesn’t appear to be that. At least I got a pretty detailed error about a permissions conflict. Went on Dropbox’s site and used their suggested command line fix that while I entered it correctly, didn’t work. I emailed Dropbox support and copied that in and they gave me a pretty thorough email back. Basically have to uninstall and reinstall and wipe the app data etc via the registry. Haven’t actually followed that recommendation yet, I logged into SC last night to relax with the campaign and I cannot load or save games. I’m semi-competent in this domain, although my partner laughs at me for being cursed with niche bugs and tech issues. A reverse Goldilocks zone where I get issues most people don’t get, that I’m competent enough to identify but not to fix! Any ideas what is causing these problems so I can eliminate them or alter my setup accordingly? I’d rather not have to fix things application by application every time an issue arises. Some additional info: 1. I be an admin, from looking at folder properties say, the SC save locations there’s no issues with read/write access I can find for users anyway. 2. My setup is an unholy mess. I had to share with my family over lockdown and my sister filled my C drive with crap pretty quickly, so I have programs and associated data spread over my C and E. I can’t see it causing these issues (because they’re new issues), thought I’d mention it. Any help much appreciated folks!

That specific model doesn't list any support for another wifi device: https://en.avm.de/service/fritzbox/fritzbox-7490/knowledge-base/publication/show/63_Type-and-number-of-USB-devices-that-can-be-connected-to-the-FRITZ-Box/ USB printer, USB storage device, mobile broadband dongle (LTE/UMTS/DSPA), USB hub, some scanners. The hub limitations are similar and on the same page. Even if it could, it probably wouldn't be beneficial since you'd just have it connected in the same location. It does seem to support functioning as a mesh repeater, so you can research that. https://en.avm.de/nc/faqs/setting-up-the-fritzbox-as-a-mesh-repeater/ Mesh networks involve multiple devices spaced around the location with overlapping range so that you transparently switch to the stronger source as you move around.

I can’t see it causing these issues (because they’re new issues), thought I’d mention it. Any help much appreciated folks! Sorry for the bump, I’ve been googling pretty hardcore and still not much joy. Permissions for various applications still seem to be an issue (from what I can tell anyway). Trying to repair permissions from the command line hasn’t worked either, and I’m not even getting an error message that gives me any additional info as to why. As I no longer share my rig with my family even just for disk space purposes I’ll probably nuke those accounts, but with this additional problem I was thinking of doing that + changing the permissions for the all users category to being the same as the admins category. As I’ll be the only user and only admin this can’t break anything if nothing else right? At present I have coursework due so I have given up on fixing this right now, I’ll try things but the main priority is not to break anything as we’re locked down and I have no access to our school computers at present. For a simpler question. I’m so reliant on cloud storage (and thus why the inability of Dropbox to work being so inconvenient) because I bounce between my Macbook and PC so much while I’m studying. I also have a ton of old backups on my Dropbox, the contents of my late grandfathers PC that I’m trying to sort, various stuff across external drives depending on if they’re formatted NTFS or for Mac etc, lots of big installers like Windows 10. I’ve got a crapton of cloud space. Was an early adopter of Dropbox so I’ve stuck with them, got OneDrive to share Office with family and that gave me a lot of additional space too. I have no singular space to attempt to pull all of that together and it’s my birthday soon, so I figured I’d treat myself to a new internal HDD on my PC with absolute monster capacity. Any recommendations on brands and specs? It would be mostly for storage and probably for quite a few program files as my SSD is really running low. For offloading programs it’s basically only the read/write speed I’m looking right? My current HDD is, I don’t know but it’s probably pretty shit. My friend anonymously mailed it to me circa 2011 after my hard drive legitimately caught fire at Dreamhack Winter.

GPU/SSD are the most valuable part of that build. It's a decent entry level PC, it'll do every esports title without issues, but any AAA games are going to be hard on it.

Was running fine until last night when it was real hot and I started getting performance dips... shut off and now today everything doesn't want to work. Any game on steam hangs. Minecraft hangs. Anything on chrome takes forever to load. Before I reach out to asus/where I bought it, how do I go about diagnosing what the hell happened Download this: https://www.hwinfo.com/ Start up your computer and look through the numbers for anything red (generally CPU >90, GPU >70 degrees is where you start seeing problems)

For minimal latency, go with one of the following: 1: Nvidia Reflex + maximum framerate possible ----- 2: GPU load below 95% at all times + maximum framerate possible without maxing the graphics card. If a game uses a lot of GPU, this requires specific configuration of an FPS limiter and/or graphics settings so that the graphics load doesn't max out. It's worth giving up quite a lot of FPS (via lowering an FPS limit) to avoid the lag penalty from maxing out your graphics card without Reflex enabled - but this doesn't help latency as much as lowering settings to avoid maxing the GPU instead. All else being the same, more framerate helps. ----- #1 is much easier and more effective, but only works on like three games right now and only exists for Nvidia users. #2 works on every game. Another option, if you have an adaptive sync monitor, is to add a little bit of latency in favor of a more smooth and consistent experience. You do this by enabling adaptive sync and setting the framerate limit slightly lower than the maximum refresh rate of the monitor - so about 141fps for a 144hz monitor. You should ideally lock framerate at this level at all times; if you're not capable of that, lowering the framerate limiter may improve your experience; a rock solid 120 can feel better than a 141 "most of the time" for example. Again, if you also want the lowest latency that you can get while doing this, you should also pick one of the conditions above - either have reflex enabled or be sure not to max out your graphics card load. Being graphically limited without Reflex adds a lot of lag. Being CPU limited does not add lag, but often destabilizes the performance of the system - because of that, the perfect setup is limited by neither the CPU or the GPU, but by a framerate limiter which can provide buffer for either component to underperform briefly without impacting your experience at all.

I keep hitting either default gateway not available. Cuts out intermittently. Flushed the DNS on each and keep hitting it Modem and WiFi reset dont do the trick this did not either: https://www.kapilarya.com/the-default-gateway-is-not-available I should also add that this is happening no matter what hardware I use (I just threw on a new modem and router to check; same on old and new) PS4 is hardwared to the router and not experiencing issues
