Depending on the game, they can probably hit it, but probably wait for independent testing. The HDMI 2.1 spec supports 4k@120, but it's up to the performance/optimization of the game as to whether or not it will work. You can likely output a lower resolution for higher framerate if needed.

I know my router is a gb router so does this mean I need to update the Ethernet cable? I can occasionally get above 100 on my chromebook and get more than 10 upload on it. When I test my computer I can get above 10 upload at like 11 ish. Am I right that this is an ethernet issue or is their some computer/router setting I need to look at? or is this something that doesn't really matter? What is your actual internet speed? Handy explanation I learned something in double-checking, I have a lot of Ethernet cables accumulated over years and I’m pretty sure some are Cat5 instead of Cat 5e. Which actually may explain some of my own bottlenecking issues!

So is the link speed just telling me what my internet speed is then? Because I'm pretty sure my modem should be able to do above 100. Re-reading that one thing caught my eye was, ‘Finally, consider your router. Many cheap routers only support Ethernet up to 100 megabits per second so that the router will bottleneck anything newer than Cat 5. Even the best home routers rarely support more than gigabit Ethernet, meaning Cat 6a and Cat 7 are of questionable use’ Which sounds remarkably similar to the bottleneck speed you’re getting, might be worth looking up your router model to see what it can output? Even if it’s relatively recent and all, I guess there’s a chance that’s the issue? Not an expert on routers (or much of anything for that matter). I mean tbh I’m one of the few people I know who even cables anything, even with a tech savvy circle so I guess if the market reflects my experiences perhaps router manufacturers are skimping on Ethernet output, long as they have dual band Wi-Fi or what have you.

update 2. My router can go gb. my modem can do up to 500mb and all of my settings in my ethernet connection that I could find are correct. I may mess around with another cable for fun but It looks like its just auto adjusting to my internet speed as best I can tell. at least that's my best guess with my limited knowledge.

The 10/100 listed by your computer is your NIC (network interface controller), which the most it's designed to support. Thats megabits per second, so divide by 8 for megabytes. In practice you'll get less a little than that amount on average under ideal circumstances. This also assumes you have the correct driver installed, as a generic driver may only give you 10/100 speeds even if the NIC can do 1000. Cat 5 cable is old, but still around, 5e is ~20 years old now and will support 1000 (gigabit), and 6 will as well. You won't see any appreciable difference between 5e and 6 in a normal home setup. These days it's very uncommon to find cat5 cable and it's probably not your issue. Some routers, including ones currently on the market, support 1000 speeds via WIFI, but NOT via wired (e.g. Netgear R6080). Other routers may support 1000 speeds on wired but still use older WIFI standards and have slower WIFI speeds. Next, there's the upload and download speeds from your ISP, which will go up to the maximum they list (or close enough), but in many cases will be lower (sometimes quite a bit, ISPs oversell their capacity regularly and their terms basically says their speeds are just "up to"). Additionally, if you're using cable, your modem has maximum speeds that it will support as well. If you use a switch between your device and the router, that will also need to support the gigabit speeds. You need all of the parts between your computer and ISP to support the full speed for you to be able to get it. So, all that said, you really need to collect the following: brand/model of your router, modem, motherboard (or PCI/PCIe card if using that for your NIC), ISP information, and any switches.

I played with my settings and set everything I could find to gigabyte and yeah looks like motherboard may be the issue. Oh well. Guess its time to look at getting a new one. I suppose I can always look at my router and modem settings If I'm bored. Thanks for the clarification. I know for a fact where on like around a 100 mb plan so it's not a big deal. I was just wondering if there was a computer bottleneck that was an easy fix. I guess not

on main computer I'm only getting like 107 anyway with a gb so not a big deal. I'll keep an eye on it for a few days to see if its worth spending the 25 bucks on. internet switches are way cheaper on amazon but its super backed up and I don't want to mess with bestbuy price matching at this time. I want to see how much it actually matters before I spend the money right now. thanks for all the help. I learned a lot about how internet speed works.

It may also be my eyes just not adjusting yet or something. Seems more noticeable when I use my old mac instead of my chromebook but I'm not 100 percent sure. I'm not sure how to show this without trying to pull out my camera and taking pictures which is a lot of work and I have no idea how well that would even work.

I thought that by moving all of the camera traffic off the router via a switch I would bypass this issue, but it's still occurring. Any ideas on what I could try? The router is a Netgear R6220.
