Introduction
Hello everyone, before I get to the main point of this post, I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Han Jaehoon, but most people call me Nathan. My IGN was JaehoonBeast. After a quick rise in the community and being associated with CPL, I quit for the past (2) years due to personal reasons. One of those reasons was that it became a lot of pressure to play with or around me. In a game like Starcraft where the barrier-to-entry is very high and there is a relatively small community, elitism is a very real thing. I spent 5 years in the US Navy as a Corpsman. I was attached to 1st Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. The environment there was VERY competitive and excellence was expected. Coming out of that, I had a similar mentality with Starcraft. Competition is not a bad thing, but there is a fine line between being a toxic person, and having a healthy competitive attitude. To be frank, a lot of what I saw and currently see is a big pissing contest. Apparently your manhood is now judged by your Starcraft skills? People are blatantly misogynistic? I don't expect everyone to sympathize with this, and that's okay. However, after being told by a close friend of mine that I was also contributing to this very thing, I personally had to take a step back.
Coaching
People that have played with me during that time can vouch that I had risen to "high level" in a relatively short amount of time. I started during CPL season 1 and was an assistant coach halfway through. By season 2 I was the head coach and created a winning roster with people that were deemed heavy underdogs. What I mean to say is, I don't think I'm anything special. I think everyone can accomplish what I did. However, I also don't think cookie cutter coaching is something that will help you get there. There is a lot of misinformation on what should be your priority while you try to improve. I believe that no matter what level you are, I can help you improve. I don't care if you're top dog of the foreign scene or a beginner. The scope of what most people focus on to get better is too narrow. I know because I've played a lot of people and coached a lot of people. With that being said, if you're serious about Starcraft and want to improve I am here to help. Practice NEEDS to be tailored to the individual. I won't really get into specifics here because there's just simply too much to cover, but I will most likely be uploading coaching sessions on youtube as well. PM me on discord: njaehan#3320.
Just to make it a bit easier for myself, copy and paste this format below either here or on discord.

Community
Now onto the community. I want to create a community from the bottom up. What I mentioned above is created from a sort of mob mentality. There's a "meta" and a state of mind. It doesn't help that everyone around you also perpetuates a sort of competitive and possibly toxic attitude to losing. The saying that failure is not an option is pretty bullshit. We aren't dealing with people's lives here; we're just trying to play a game. You can improve and have fun doing it. Anyone who is interested in creating a community with me on discord with like-minded individuals, hit me up. The ultimate goal is to slowly get rid of elitism in the scene because really, I still like the game.
Thanks to those that read it through all the way, I know its just a big block of text. If anyone disagrees, feel free to dm me as well.

Great idea. Not to sound like an asshole at all but I don't really know who you are and I don't remember any of your accomplishments, nor do I remember you beating any top foreigners, although the mentality / idea behind it is great.
-What is your max MMR / what season? -Current MMR? -Why are you a better coach then every other one in the scene at the moment? (Honest curious question, because it seems you are perpetuating the MO that you are the bees knees, the best coach that has ever lived, and you can coach better than anyone else in the scene.) -What are your accomplishments besides believing you reached a high level in the foreign scene with no real results? (If you have posted the results, I just haven't seen them so forgive me)
I agree that the coaches at the moment seem to have a cookie cutter / generalized approach to giving advice, as if every match will be the same / same variables, which just isn't true. I agree that people need a more 1 on 1 style of coaching.
What I am trying to wrap my head around is creating an entire new community from the ground up based on the idea that everyone else's coaching style is wrong, and yours is right. Are you going to coach other coaches how to coach as well?
The idea is a great idea, but why not just help the coaches coach better in CPL currently? Is the whole ideology based upon creating a new community where there is no elitism and people are coached "properly"?
I also agree people need to end the pissing contest but I don't know that any one person can change the entire scene in it's current state by themselves, except maybe FlaSh. =P
Regardless, i'd love to help and I think the initiative behind it is great, nothing wrong with trying.

When people say "not to sound like an asshole" or "no offense" they usually end up saying something really passive aggressive. The problem with your baiting is that you are already a rather infamous character yourself. I won't be addressing any of your questions on my credibility. I will let others speak on my behalf for that. My post was obviously intended for those that either knew me in the past or those that were serious about improvement.
As far as your "honest curious question, because it seems you are perpetuating the MO that you are the bees knees, the best coach that has ever lived, and you can coach better than anyone else in the scene". I find that to be in poor taste as that was never the focus. I never mentioned any coaches, but a general methodology when approaching the game. You speak of changing the entire scene, but that was also never mentioned. Either way, individual initiative is pretty important for any sort of change. I clearly urged only those that sympathize with my values to write back.
Again, I may have understood the narrative of your post incorrectly but it did seem like you were trying to egg me on with your "I don't really know who you are and I don't remember any of your accomplishments". I wouldn't say the community would be based on me either at all. It is no secret that the SC community is full of elitism and toxicity. I am merely giving those that do not wish to go through that an option to improve with a positive environment.
While I would also like to contribute to CPL (which I have in the past), I do not think it will work for everyone. The end goal rarely becomes wanting to improve and see past the season; instead shifting to wanting to win the next game. You may have seen my confidence for my knowledge as discrediting other coaches. However, you will see that I never put into question the credibility of any other player or coach.
The primary focus is the positive community that the game has been missing for years now. Not everyone likes to ladder, and not everyone wants to participate in leagues. As far as why people should come to me for coaching, I offer something different to break a lot of stagnation. It might not be the most convincing thing to hear, but take for example someone that has been generally the same skill level for multiple years. If they are content at that skill level, then that is their choice. The moment they decide to strive for something higher but do not know how to get there, it is often a mindset change that is required; not MORE builds or practice.

nice to see you returning to the community!

I'll coach anyone for the right price, especially that noob TT1

I don't wanna be in the same basket with telecom here but i'd like to know the same: -current mmr -former max mmr -tournament results
I just think those are very basic informations when ppl offer coaching.

I wasn't meaning to offend or sound like an asshole, the bee's knees comment was in a joking manner, sorry lol.
I think it is a great idea, but I also don't think that any of my questions are wrong to ask, I was generally curious, as I would love some help in PvZ / PvT in certain situations, it wasn't meant as an attack.

Beast is a really strong player and even more dedicated to his students in his coaching, would recommend. Seen this dude wake/stay up at like 3-4AM to help his students over in EU.
Glad to see you back and hope you have interest in participating in foreign competitive events.

I think it would be really cool if you could stream some of your coaching sessions, I remember now watching you play some PvZ where you would 11 Nexus(? I think) and scout very late or not at all, I vaguely remember this months ago. Is this a build you would promote ?

As you can already tell from the thread, pretty much every high-level NA player can vouch for Nathan. Awesome skills and an even better guy!

i saw your CPL video on Nexus before forge vs overpool/12h, really good stuff. i think i played you in a cw too dm vs nas 1-2 i think you won, close games, i don't doubt your skill since i played you before.

exact same reason why i quit bw a few months ago, i dont feel like playing anymore, mb if your idea gets going that could help me and other dudes in the same position. even tho i can practice with clanamates and other practice partners, playing ladder really burns me out, bm and lag, not really healthy for my mindset.
"hey xeno X random player said he beat you in ladder" this kind of shit got me sick of bw community.

Hey Beast! I'm fazek, you might remember me from your CPL team... I have also just recently come back to the game, it is just too great despite all the weirdness with it being an online video game and all. I'd like to improve this summer, since I'll continue to have a bit of time to play. I've just reached 1802 MMR playing with Terran in EU, but I have also started playing with Zerg just for fun (but that one is suuuper low level).

Whats up Beast! You coached me before on CPL and we are even friends on discord at the moment, but I am posting here to say I am glad you have returned to SC. I am a lower level than many of the people who you have the ability to assist, but I want to say Beast is willing to put in the time for players at any level and that is something I can always appreciate. I recommend anyone looking for someone to learn from try to get some help from Beast.

To be fair, for a Telecom post he was being very civil and polite. Being sceptical towards coaching and expert consulting is alright, as half of the proclaimed professionals are sadly not as professional as they perceive themselves. That's something that also is true for real life, I guess. Other than that, I hope you could link some of your coaching sessions, I'm actually interested in seeing your approach in action. Back when bw.de ran its beginner server, I tried to write some general guides on mentality and approaching the game after talking to the coaches within that community. Seems like a pretty high standard you want to achieve, as especially beginners and low ranked players probably struggle with basics and thus help can often times be as basic as their mistakes. I hope its less work for you to engage than it is for players to follow your guide. Best of luck to you and your pupils!
