also, there were a few balance whiners who used to repeatedly come into strategy threads after every ladder loss and attack people for giving them constructive criticism, which brought down the mood the race help threads still exist and you can post in them whenever you want. just change the forum settings to show older posts and they'll come up at the bottom

and also lots of content on youtube. I think it's just the austere, turn-of-the-millenium forum format that is no longer attracting people

But how I see it: This page and many youtube videos served me an unlimited source of knowledge - it doesn't have to be from this month-topic. I read many quality posts from the past on this website (about any time). That's why I am here. For instance "sc tutorial central" (by jakatak) gave me invaluable helps and tools and techniques but it doesn't seem to be well known (for what it deserves), he also did an immeasurable big amount of work (and together with others/pros) on "the core"... just as one example. This is a great website. Anyways. There is also the "dark side" of reasoning.

#2. The metagame hasn't really changed all that dramatically for casual mode players. You can make virtually anything work below GM with good macro and scouting. Just go watch some pro games for the match ups you want to study, and welcome back :D

Thanks for the link, it's gonna be real helpful when I get back into this gem of a game.

They took down their forum rules and decide on a case by case basis what should and shouldn't be allowed, which has absolutely lead to issues with bad apples. I can think of several cases where frankly, moderators here should have been fired and banned but weren't. Now days it's pretty rare though but when you decide to say "screw the rules, it's my house and I'll make them up as I go along" then people stop taking you seriously, even when you exercise considerable restraint after an initial crazy period. That combined with the other variables=the issue the OP mentions.

That combined with the other variables=the issue the OP mentions. If you don't like the forums or the moderators, you can always leave. Nobody is forcing you to stay. Now, if you were to actually provide evidence of the "several cases where moderators here should have been fired and banned" in website feedback then maybe people will start taking your opinion more seriously. To stay on topic: Essentially, the game at the casual level hasnt changed in the past few years. Sometimes a random strat will rise in popularity again, but now there's also years of history to fall back on and find answers for problems.

- To create content that will be outdated after the next balance patch is nonsense. Doing the same thing over and over again without any tangible results isn't very smart.
