That's a crazy map pool. How did you decide on it?
Also have you considered using brand new maps for these events?
I like many of the brand new maps. They are fun to play and well-balanced. Thankfully, it will be quite easy to find games to watch of them. I wish to see players adapt to unusual maps. Each of the maps were on the ladder at one point. I would hope that future seasons of Starcraft 2 ladder have more maps like these that I have chosen, so I can enjoy more strategic variety (especially with regards to expansion layout.). I wanted to ensure that the maps I chose would not encourage completely standard play. I want to watch pros and semi-pros battle it out on excellent maps.
This map pool is an abridged version of the rest of the full Challenger Tournament map pool, which contains 18 maps.

is this a qualifier like the title suggests? if yes, to what tournament and how many will there be of these?
This Qualifier will guarantee the winner a seeded spot into the next Challenger Tournament.
My current plan is 2 Qualifiers like this one. I have ambitions to make a website to facilitate open signups for another Challenger Tournament, but at the very least I can guarantee another Challenger tournament bolstered primarily by invites next February. I am not making, and do not intend to make, any money on this venture. That said, many of the North American players I spoke to enjoyed the opportunity to compete in a legit off-season event with unusual maps.
