They've run out of ideas; this looks embarrassingly dumb. Probably not going to get Sword or Shield.

Probably not going to get Sword or Shield. Aww come on, the idea of Weezing, the pokemon that spews toxic smoke getting a british tophat smokestack is kind of genius. I mean, its pokemon, most pokemon designs are a little dumb, Obstagoon looked worse than Galarian Weezing in my opinion. (which I'm gonna dislike saying, since Galerians were in their own game that I found frightening as a child.) That being said I also wont buy Sword/Shield til I see a National Pokedex and can import my own pokemon to start the game with

As someone who is interested in the Lite but was wary of it because of the Joycon drift issues, it's incredibly annoying how difficult it is to dig out real information about how many people are having issues vs. mass hysteria over a single Youtube video.

I played my first Pokemon game over 20 years ago, really enjoyed it and threw myself in on blue, even won me a Mew at a Nintendo Magazine event. I kinda drifted away pretty quickly because I’d explored the mechanics, was never really a collectathon kinda person and moved on to other things like RTS games (obviously). Now the kiddo is approaching 7, loves playing Pokemon Let’s Go with me and is getting Sword for Christmas. I got Shield to get a bit of a sneak preview and he was super excited to get a look. There are absolutely elements that yes absolutely can be improved for sure. That said the existing adult fanbase (or the more vocal complainers) seem completely unrealistic about the franchise. You’re not getting those childhood feelings back because you’ve been playing the same thing for 20 years or whatever, it’s just not doable. You can’t have new Pokemon and new content, new mechanics while maintaining a roster of what 900 Pokemon or whatever without it becoming a completely bloated mess. Sure, we all have investments in our favoured franchises and I get that, but maybe look at how the next generation who’ve never experienced new Pokemon games receive it instead of vocally complaining all over the internet. In a similar vein for example, I loved me Star Wars back in the day, plus the old Lucas Arts games like Dark Forces, Tie Fighter etc. I don’t really care anymore because I had my fun in my formative years and really no new property is going to match that in a universe I have thoroughly milked.

Why not? Literally every mainline game before SWSH could do it, and those were handheld games.
