On a global scale, the epic struggle of man vs. machine is still in our future, but AI has already claimed numerous victims on the battlefields of Chess, Go, and StarCraft. Even now, devious masterminds are creating AI that they hope will be able to take down even top players in the near future. After years of in-fighting and thousands of games played at super-human speeds, their strength has grown to the level of posing a challenge to Brood War players as storied and powerful as myself/s I have taken it upon myself to defend our honor against the nefarious programmers and their digital monsters.
As such, I have decided to organize a biweekly event wherein members of the SSCAIT Discord can pit their souped up AIs against me for a Bo# series. The format may change depending on the bot - I may play Protoss, Terran, Zerg, Random, the maps may change, the starting speed, etc. I have already played quite a few bots over the past few months, which gave me the idea for this biweekly event. You can click here to see my recent games against Hao Pan, a Terran bot. Most of the streams will be similar to this one: FPV, me talking about the bots as I struggle against them, potentially some salt. For those of you who aren't familiar with me, I have been playing for an embarrassingly long time and I am currently a ~1900 MMR Protoss with my offraces being a fair amount below that. However, I will rise to any challenge.
If you're interested in Brood War, AI development, doomsday predictions about the rise of the machines, and everything in between, I hope you'll tune in to watch how these bots perform! Stay tuned for updates about the next stream.
+ Show Spoiler [Acknowledgements] +I would like to take a moment to give a huge thank you to Zalazane and Antiga.Iruian for helping me set up past and future broadcasts vs. AI, the people whose bots I have already played, the SSCAIT community for the work they do, and my viewers who have given me feedback on previous events and gave me the idea for this biweekly. Cheers! <3
+ Show Spoiler [Disclaimer] +My goal is to make this event as accessible as possible to anyone who is interested in any way, so I will assume that the bot files and replays I receive are open for sharing. However, if a developer does not want me to share the files or replays, I will absolutely honor that.

This is an awesome initiative and I am looking forward to watching the matches (please also stream to YTG as the viewing experience is much better for me there)!
I will likely pit my own bot against you at some point, too. I will let you know when it's better prepared
PS, I hope that most people will get the satire and won't suddenly panic that the "nefarious programmers and their digital monsters" are planning on a Doomsday scenario of sorts

Yes, your bot is one that I am looking forward to playing again (last time I played it was a few years ago, I'm sure there has been a ton of growth!). Can you tell me what YTG is - YouTube G___? Is it possible to stream to both twitch and YouTube at the same time on a regular computer? I will be uploading VODs to YouTube too, in case that makes it easier for you as well.
PS: I have hope in humanity! The fact that your faith is lacking makes it seem like my satire may have more truth than expected

Sounds pretty cool. Please have streams archived incase I can’t catch it live. Thanks.

All of my streams are archived for 2 weeks on Twitch, but before they expire I will be turning them into highlights and exporting to YouTube so I am sure you will find a way to watch them ^^ This reminds me that I should make a playlist on YouTube that I can link here that will contain each of the "epsiodes." Thanks!

@Jealous, I meant Youtube Gaming: https://www.youtube.com/gaming/ BTW, using https://restream.io/ you could stream to multiple platforms. This is what SSCAIT uses.
But as long as you upload everything to Youtube anyway, one could watch the VODs later so it's all fine

I think I'm going to keep it simple and upload to YouTube after the broadcasts but maybe in the future I will change it up. Cheers!

Cool. At what level do you think these current bots are (like <1600 mmr?) and how well are they thinking and adapting so far?
Do you see that they are actually learning from games and molding themselves further? Were they fed data of existing builds and scouting patterns and basing openings off of that so far?
Could we get some high level technical explanation for the logic used so far? Perhaps one of the developers could chime in here.
Sorry, lots of questions....

The tops bots are around what C level would be on ICCUP back before remastered. Not sure how much that is in MMR today.
Learning depends on the bot. Some bots have it, others don't. Data of exisiting builds depends on the bot as well. My bot used text mining on liquidpedia to determine build orders.
As for the logic used, even that depends on the bot. Usually bots are split up in different taks like scouting, worker management, building, micro, macro etc.

It's really tough to say; on average I'd say 1500-1700 MMR is accurate, as I've lost a few games already. However, the reason why it is hard to say is because the bots excel in some things and not in others, and can be "broken" or just get messed up for no reason. So some elements of their play are absolutely off the charts superhuman, some parts are like stone age newbie who blocks himself and can't get out. An example I saw recently from one of the strongest bost, SAIDA, is that it placed a Turret between its main and nat and this prevented it from ever leaving its base. An opposite example would be how a bot used Dragoon micro to outrange and outspace my Hydralisks so convincingly with seemingly insufficient numbers that I never got a decent enough Hydra ball rolling, and he did this while denying my expansions and taking 5+ bases of his own and defending against drops, eventually steamrolling me. So, it's sort of a mixed bag, but on average I think players at 1500-1700 MMR can win but could also get trounced.

I don't think I've played enough games against any one of those learning bots to see it come to fruition. From what I know, it takes many many games for them to adapt to you, which is likely due to the fact that they play each other at like 10x speed on ladder and play hundreds of games against each other from what I know. In general, they have been trying different strategies against me every game from their pool, but the one thing I know they "learn" is if you leave early (thinking you have won), it will record it as a win for itself, and will do the same strategy the next game. I had to face a Random=Zerg going like fast 5 base mass Hydra like 3 times in a row.

How do I play against these super ai bots? I want to grind my mechanics without waiting for an opponent or dealing with humans.

There is soon to be a ladder (maybe it's already up?) where humans can fight the bots! However, you need 1.16 to participate from what I know. Check out the Discord (linked in the OP) and ask for more details there!

Huge thanks to Proxy for letting me use his bot and making the replays publicly available! You can find the replays in the SSCAIT Discord channel if you're interested. Shout outs to Antiga.Iruian, Zalazane, and all of the viewers! If you have any feedback, please feel free to post it here.
