First saw that this was being developed today, and there is some gameplay footage of it. I really like the look of it. Release date: August 6th
It's a 4X strategy game with 6 different unique factions "rebuilding" civilization after some apocalyptic event in the future. At first glance, it looks like they took Age of Wonders and added in all the best things from Alpha Centauri and X-Com.
And here are the 4 demos of gameplay footage, from different factions: + Show Spoiler +
Been waiting for this since last year, nice to see they have an initial release date now. I don't know how common it is, but I play the Age of Wonders series more for the story campaign than for the sandbox. Hoping this one has a robust campaign as well.
is the story in this game part of the plot arc from Infocom's Planetfall text adventure? it looks like it is. couldn't find anything via google though.

Only skipped through the trailers. Am I misreading or missing something here? The game seems to be turn based and 4X. So if you're looking for a RTS, you wouldn't find that here.

No, you're right: it's a turn-based 4x game. I understood GGzerG as being excited about this despite it not being an RTS, but maybe he scanned the videos even faster than you did.
I also don't game much anymore, but I still boot up the PC for the odd game of civ 5 (and then usually play for far too long). This might take its spot. Especially if it actually has a story that is remotely interesting (4x gameplay and interesting stories don't usually go together tho).

I also enjoyed AoW 3 a lot, and am thus pretty hyped for this.
I am still not gonna preorder or day1 buy.
Always wait for stuff to be out for at least and watch some videos before buying, buying on hype is what gets you bad games and a bad game industry. Waiting until you actually know what you buy is good for you and keeps the game industry honest. Buy good games, not hyped games.
interesting. curious if there will be local multiplayer (on 1 computer) and how long games may last. Also whether there is a editor. Looks pretty good (gameplay) will check when it is out
Age of Wonders 3 has hotseat multiplayer. I would be greatly disappointed if this doesn't. For some reason a lot of turn based games don't do hotseat, and i find this very strange, as it should be incredibly easy to implement and really adds a lot of value to the game for some people (Like me).
Similarly, if it is like AoW3, there will be an editor, but no one is gonna use it because random map generation is pretty good .
I really hope that they keep on doing all the good things like that which were good about AoW3 and made it such an amazing game.

This is of course true, and as a general rule i dont pre-order games. At the same time though I like to reward developers who have shown themselves to be deserving of it. Triumph/Paradox are two I am very comfortable saying I will likely buy it very soon after release at the latest
