In case you're bored this Friday and you're waiting for the STPL to get on, you've watched the ASL VODs, BSL isn't on for another day, and you might even feel a little bit sadistic and want to watch a high level player completely smash a noob over and over and over again for four hours?
Well, hop on over to MadiNho's stream and you'll get to watch him crush Incomplete (yours truly) in an effort to to make my skills....complete.
If you're still scratching your head wondering what the hell I'm going on about, I'll try to fill in the blanks. At first, you might want to get to know the players a bit.
MadiNho[ReV] is our 2v2-prodigy, who carries by far the heaviest load in our clan leagues in terms of skills and results. At least in recent time. He was even able to take down ASL Ro24 finalist SouL)T(ByuL in the STPL. He's often streaming both 1v1s and 2v2s, showing his prowess with all three races. Strong timings, impeccable micro, swift multitasking, and all around a very strong player.
He spends countless of hours playing this game. He is our battleship.
Now, what is he facing?
Incomplete[ReV]: Well, my greatest feats in BW would be that I got myself into Norway-B, which is pretty much the equivalent to sitting at the table next to the table where the cool kids are - who gives a shit, right? And in more recent times, beating FBW's revered Faust...in a best of 1...and I'm fairly certain he was hella hungover, while I had prepared intensly for a week and was fit for fight.
As you can see from my handsome picture, I'm not the brightest spoon on the shelf but at least I can puff up my chest as though I have any muscles!
These are the players - so what? Wtf is going on!?
I've been a crappy noob since the day I started. I started playing at around 2002/2003 and I have never had the talent or discipline to actually get anywhere. But the community runs short on top level players, and on new talents rising.
How can I expect or demand my clan mates to become the next generation top players, if I myself cannot be resolute in my cause? Who am I to make demands that they just have to endure, if I myself will not do it as well? How can I lead, if I myself will not go through the same hardships as I hope to see in my clan mates?
Therefore, I have asked MadiNho to demolish me for 4 hours. He will not hold back, but will go all out. However, anyone watching the stream and being in the benevolent enviorment that is the Twitch chat, may come with suggestions to what MadiNho should do to me.
He'll play Random, whereas I'll be playing Terran all games. He will of course inform me of his race when the game has started. We'll be rotating the STPL map pack, although we might fondle the BWCL maps a bit too, assuming we need some extra diversity. Furthermore, you should also feel free to make suggestions here in this thread, to give some ideas!
My personal thoughts on playing against someone with such a skill difference, may be unlike what some may think. I often hear that if the skill difference is big enough, then you won't get anything out of it. Frankly, I think that's bullshit. If I only survive 3 minutes at first, then 4 minutes, then 6 minutes, then 15 minutes, then that simply means that my early game is getting tighter and tighter.
Now imagine how much bullshit he'll throw at me as we play these games? Imagine how many little things he'll annoy me with with his very first worker, that I'll learn to handle. Now imagine me going back to playing others my level - they'll spend a lot of time doing fancy stuff while their minerals soar. Meanwhile, I've gotten so used to even worse that I'll barely notice and will get an advantage simply by not being bothered.
It may be a small gain from 4 hours of hell, but that's what I honestly think getting good at BW is. Masochism. That, or learning to find the value in anything you can learn to perfect, and simply be happy that you've learned anything at all.
Another thing I'll hope to gain, is some mental fortitude. If I can survive MadiNho's harassment (might even get a bit verbal? ) and overwhelming skill for 4 hours, a ladder session with some wins in between shouldn't be so scary any longer either.
Whether any of this is of any interest at all to you, is of course up to you. If you don't give a shit what I think, then that's fine. It's okay, I still love you <3 But if you'd like to hop on and see what's up, or laugh at me for my stupid mistakes (please do, I don't mind - it's the nature of a gig like this). And then afterwards we can hop on over to our beloved Qikz and watch STPL together!
Lastly, I wish to add that I did offer MadiNho some compensation for all of this. But he simply said "fuck payment, let's just do it!" A true clan mate, and I'll do my part to make the best of it!
You are all welcome this Friday, 22. February starting at 17.00 CET!

Hope ya'll will find some fun and sadistic ways for MadiNho to demolish this puny noob! :D

There has to be a game where he mind controls one of your SCVs then beats you in TvT. Just so you actually question why you've been playing for 17 years and still let that happen to you.

Sounds like fun, will tune in, I hope you gain a lot of knowledge from your event.

I've gotta admit I've been playing for 9 years and nobody has ever stolen an SCV of mine.
This is a terrible idea to announce this, but hope it went well Incomplete. It's always a pleasure seeing you and Mad play in the STPL :D

Salute in retun! I fear that the full horrors will not really sink in until I've been demolished over and over for two hours, and it dawns on me that there's still two hours left. I'll look at it as a hard workout - hurts like hell when I go through it, but then afterwards I'll definitely get all the ladies. Or just lady, as it'd be mostly to impress my wife!

Starting in about 5 minutes :D

So... same time next week? Lots of fun games, I hope you feel like you improved and enjoyed the experience Incomplete

I'd definitely need more, yeah xD
And I do feel like it helped me improve, yeah. Maybe not so much in actual skill at the moment, but at least getting some deeper understandings for some things.
- Where to properly put buildings (have been putting the supply on the wrong side of the rax in TvP for too long) - Proper wall on certain maps - Importance of map awareness - Also interesting to really have it dawn on me that it doesn't matter if you know the right thing to do, if you don't have the mechanics to pull it off. If you build a unit composition that should demolish your opponent's, it doesn't matter if you don't have good enough macro to pump out the required amount to steamroll. Instead, I got steamrolled myself by superior decision making, macro, and movement. - After a long enough time, I started feeling like things went more automatically. Which is part good and part bad. The good part, is that builds flow better without thinking. The bad part is that if I have bad habits, they will be part of that flow. And I'll repeat them over and over and over until I start "thinking" again. So I need to be wary of making good habits, then massgame those good habits into said flow. I.e., massgaming is only good if you have good habits you're preparing in mass.
- I was also surprised at how long I was able to play. Usually I get far more exhausted much earlier. But I think that was because I had absolutely no hope of winning. I felt like I was close to winning a few games, and some games had me baffled that I didn't win. But I was never sad for losing. It was expected. So I never thought about winning or losing, per say. Only on improving, on trying to learn and do better than my last game. And I think that made me relax a lot more. Much less stressful when winning that individual game doesn't matter, but only improvement. I'll have to take that with me when laddering.
I lost 18 games in a row for 4 hours. And I loved every moment of it. Huge thanks to MadiNho! <3
