VRChat was developed by a company of the same name in Unity as an open and (mostly) editable virtual reality world. Players can assume different avatars, and go explore user-created worlds. There are plenty of stock avatars and default worlds, but the customization aspect of the game makes it an interesting venue for 3D graphic designers.
The game supports the VR interface, but it is not required. You can play it from your desktop or laptop computer. There is no set object to the game, and it is almost entirely community-based. That being said, some people may find the game to be off-putting due to the lack of goals and the chaotic nature of interactions with other players.
You will probably enjoy this game if you like:
- Anime
- Memes
- Shitposting
- Having weird/random conversations
- Traps
- Role-playing
- Creating worlds/characters/items
There a lot of anime enthusiasts playing this game. Not exclusively, but there are a lot. Virtually any character can be ported into the game, with a few exceptions for size, and exceptions for "offensive" content, such as nude avatars, hitler avatars, et cetera. So the possibilities are pretty close to boundless. My favorite world (so far) is a fan-made recreation of Legend of Zelda: The Majora's Mask world of Termina.
Recently, an in-game meme became very popular -- Ugandan Knuckles -- right after I started playing. The game is still quite young, and therefore, has some issues, like occasionally the loading screen will loop forever, but overall, can be a hilarious experience.
I made this thread so people from the teamliquid community could post their videos of their in-game experiences, and discuss uploading models to the game.
