Oh yeah, I remember what I wanted to post here. SBO qualifiers are going on for both 3s and AH2 (and the other games, naturally).
For 3s, there's the SRK topic. Team MEGA URAKEN qualified recently, as well as Umezono (CH) + Matsuda (YU) + Yuki Otoko (GO). Interesting that the previous SBO winners got rid of Shiroitachi who may have been the reason they won. (recap: last year's grand finals)
The US East Cost team for 3s was determined this weekend: Justin Wong (CH or KE?), kofiend (YA?), Gootecks (UR)
Apparently one of the West Coast teams will consist of Pyrolee (YU), Amir (CH), and Sextaro (MA).
For AH2, I made a post here with all the qualified players so far. Character stats:
Yoriko: 3 <--- top tier Catherine: 2 <--- top tier Mei-Fang: 2 <--- low tier Petra: 2 <--- low tier Saki: 2 <--- top tier Angelia: 1 Clarice: 1 <--- top tier Elsa: 1 Fiona: 1 Kamui: 1 Kira: 1 Konoha: 1 Lieselotte: 1 <--- bottom tier Lilica: 1 Dorothy: 0 <--- bottom tier Heart: 0 Maori: 0 Zenia: 0 <--- top tier
I'll just mention some of the players from the vids I've been posting frequently.
Qualified for AH2: 殿 "Tono" (Konoha), TOMO (Catherine), ミ "Mi" (Petra), 馬超 "Ma Chao" (Yoriko)
Not Qualified (Yet) for AH2: 青 "Ao" (Elsa) who was last year's AHF SBO winner, シャカポ "Shakapo" (Zenia) who was last year's AHF SBO 2nd place, 白アラン "Alan White" (Saki) who got 2nd at a qualifier, 葵 "Aoi" (Zenia), ACT (Maori), メタルスライム "Metal Slime" (Kira)
By the way, question for Guilty Gear players: who are "the guys to watch" in Guilty Gear? I've heard Kaqn has a really good Order-Sol. That Eddie who won SBO last year... I forget his name, apparently he's godly too?
In Brawl, I know there's GimpyFish (Bowser), PC Chris, Mew2King. I remember PsychoMidget having a good Snake when Brawl first came out. Is Ken still a top contender?

GOOTECKS <3
I'm really looking forward to Amir owning it up, Honestly, I'd pick 5star or Vic over Sextaro, but he's F'n sextaro, and makoto is always good in a team ^_^
RANCH yo

ugh i think gootecks is awful, i can't stand watching him play his aegis setups are never god
oh shit, kokujin is playing with tokido and momochi

Even though I don't actually play 3s or ah, this is my favourite thread on TL.

Another vid, this one's for the SBO spot I guess Fubar (YA), Shu Tetsu (YU) Kamii (DU) Misawa (KE), Shimono (UR), Issei (YU) Pierre (UR), Vanao (RY), Tyrant Kera (MA) (Who the hell is that) + Show Spoiler +

lol no Zenias yet? That spread is looking real nice. Also thanks for the vids KOFgokuon

oO I think this team has a VERY good chance of being the first foreign team to advance out of the first round.

Kaqn Order Sol is pretty standard, he used to be in these big Gamechariot winstreaks but has he won any tournaments with OS? There's a reason why he plays Millia now ;(
As for guys to watch... the list is huge because the scene is so big and there are so many good players for each character, and the cast for GG is pretty big.
Guys to watch who have qualified for SBO (thus far)- -Koichi, KO1 (MI)- Koichi is famous for having a crazy I-No and being crazy enough to stick with I-No and do well in AC, though his team got shut down by N-Otoko last year. Also infamous for racking up huge leads via massive combos, then making horrible defensive decisions (wakeup TK vertical Chem.Love???) that get him killed. His Millia is pretty buff and hella flashy, while it's sad to see him drop I-No for this SBO it's nice to see his Millia return in top form. -Nemo (TE)- formerly a Faust player, one of MANY big name players who switched to a top tier for AC this year. Kinda sad, his Faust was pretty sweet. Still, Tessu gets results.
-Maruken (BA)- the best (only??) offensive Baiken in Japan. Signature move is TK Yousanzen FRC into mixup out of nowhere (it's HARD and nobody seems to knows why he does it). Definitely not your average Sharon-wannabe Baiken. -Nanashi (VE)- oh poor Nanashi. He's a solid Venom who's qualified year after year and done well year after year, but year after year it's N-O who shows people the power of Venom while Nanashi ends up being a stepping stone for whoever is hot at the moment. A good player nevertheless, his team has the explosive punch to go far with some luck, thanks to some Potemkin player and Maruken.
-Masaki, better known as Machaboo~ (KY)- the guy who was one missed airthrow away from beating Ogawa at SBO last year. Brutally efficient Ky, his defense is top notch. Also notable for carrying a team with some random girl Millia into SBO lol.
-Mugen (BR)- one of the top Bridgets (along with Ruu), his style seems a bit more aggressive than Ruu's crazy runaway style. Notable for this one stretch of time where he would nail mixup into yoyo glitch loops D: N, En (SL)- seems pretty good but he's not a "must-see" just yet... EXCEPT he beat Ogawa (TWICE in the same day) to qualify, so keep an eye out.
-R.F. (FA)- stuck to Faust and qualified, hawt. RF is a long-time qualifier who had a really good shot at winning SBO with his team last year, then N-O BARELY lost to Satoshi. Looking solid as always this year, and with a solid Eddie (J.T) and a solid Testament (Sho~ji), he has a good chance of accentu-core moments taking him far... or keeping him out of the finals yet again.
-012, zero one two (but in Japanese so it's like zero ichi ni) (SO)- one of the few old top Sols who actually stuck with Sol. Underperformed a little at last year's SBO (like every other Sol, hmm) but he's in good form with a good team. -Isa (ED)- 012's teammate and fellow big-name Sol, except he's an Eddie player now. One of the more famous "upgrades" from a good player. His Eddie is supposedly pretty good. -Satoshi (PO)- 012 and Isa's 3rd man, the other guy who was THIS CLOSE to beating Ogawa at a few points last year, this time in the finals. Notable for taking out a red-hot N-O at SBO last year to get into the finals. A really solid Potemkin who's right up there with FAB.
-0, zero (OS)- the "boss" of Order Sol, kaqn said he's the best Order Sol around. Very similar to his teammate KA2 in style; patient defense, low risk play until an opening appears, then pinpoint execution and smart offense to capitalize. His other teammate, Ha-ken (PO) strikes me as just another solid AC Potemkin. -KA2, Kani (JA)- legendary for his string of OCVs on the way to winning an SBO for Slash, dropping only ONE GAME that year. His team was OCV-ed by N-O last year, though. Good defense, great execution, brilliant use of little things (watch him kill entire teams with Jam anti-air stand punch in SBO '06), handles pressure well, his movement is art.
-N-Otoko, N-O (VE)- if you didn't recognize this trend from all the previous guys, N-O is a beast who ruined many players' SBO aspirations last year. Known for dominating a-cho tournaments for a while, he's been a force of nature in recent years and has cemented his place as THE Venom in Japan. With his team playing relatively poorly last year, he went all the way to semis almost by himself with a string of OCVs to show for it before barely losing to Satoshi in a heartbreaker of a match. Strange that he isn't teaming up with a-cho buddies and longtime teammates RF and P.C., though. -Dogura (RO)- N-O's teammate this year, one of the top Robot Ky's in Japan (if not the top). Takes a quirky character and plays him solidly, though he's not above pulling out some shenanigans here and there. N-O and Dogura's teammate, FT (MA) is a pretty good May in a game full of pretty good May's... he might actually be a big name May that I forgot about?
-Shonen, Shounen (TE)- TE player famous for turning matches into combo videos. For a while he was just "that combo video guy" who had minor lapses in other areas that kept him below the likes of MINT and yukinose (lol what happened to that guy), but over the past few years he's grown into a top player in his own right, keeping all the explosive combo-video moments while adding even better zoning and defense to his game. Keeping his team from last year that went pretty deep despite being a man short. -Ruu (BR)- qualified for SBO then couldn't make it last year, his team did well without him but probably would have done better with him! Ruu has been around for a few years and has pretty much set the standard for what Buri play looks like. He runs away better than anybody I've seen and doesn't have as many catastrophic mistakes as other would-be runaway Bridgets, and his offense is a lot less risky than most. Will be interesting to see how much Ruu does for his team this year. -Woshige (MI)- a strong Millia who played well in last year's SBO, but the level of play in Japan is too high for a 2-man team to win a 3v3 tournament. Good and has his brilliant moments, a good guy to watch to learn Millia (as opposed to Nakamura, who is insanely good but also insane).
-Tsubu (AB)- one of the few bigger name ABAs to qualify. Strong player, we'll see how he does. -Nikukyuu (CH)- good Chipp, and he qualified with Chipp in ACCENT CORE, aka 80% damage all day every day: the game. -MINT (TE)- MINT appears to just be a top-notch but textbook Testament, but that's because he wrote the book. Patient, solid, MINT has done well with Testament since XX/#R (aka when Testament sucked) and has continued to do well with recent top-tier Testament. You can blame him for all the dudes who are willing to stand there and spam poke XX forward EXE beast in the corner all day long.
-Moriyama (MA)- big name May. OCV'd kaqn's team last year. Him and Versus were the May powerhouses for a while, IIRC. Versus has all but disappeared though.
Guys to watch who haven't qualified just yet: -Ogawa (ED)- aka "The Tyrant" for his brutal domination of #R before his epilepsy took him out of Slash and AC for random periods; one of the few players to win 2 SBOs. His team won AC at SBO last year but I think he's yet to qualify (one of many top players who got Slayer'd in area qualifiers). Had a heartbreaking loss to N at an area qualifier which seemed to take the fight out of him... for that tournament. Ogawa is a player unaccustomed to losing (and an arrogant jerk about it sometimes) so I don't expect to see him drop another qualifier, but I wouldn't be surprised since people are hungry this year.
-FAB (PO)- he's been a top 2 Potemkin forever. Impressive defense and crazy IB (and now slashback) skills on top of slick execution under pressure. Still, he plays Potemkin and Potemkin has almost ALWAYS had crappy matchups with the top tier in every iteration of GG... except AC, where it's about even since everything is so stupid in AC.
-Mike (JA)- aka Jack Sparrow at SBO last year lol. Where KA2 is the patient, methodical Jam, Mike is the balls-to-the-wall flip-out crazy-go-nuts Jam... which apparently works better in AC since his team went to the finals and KA2's team didn't. AC is stupid sometimes.
-BLEED (JO)- the Johnny everybody tries to be if they aren't crazy. Solid Johnny with good zoning, good execution, been a top Johnny for a while.
-Sharon, Syaron (BA)- every Baiken player who isn't stupid tries to imitate Sharon; in fact many BA players call him Sharon-sama. The ones who are stupid either play like it, or try to play like Maruken but aren't crazy enough to do it. Sharon epitomizes defensive Baiken while having the offensive punch to take it to his opponent when needed. He's dropped a few teams for being weak (like the one teammate that tried to take on a girl for an SBO qual) but he's finally settling in with some stronger players so he has a good shot at qualifying in the near future.
-Nakamura (MI)- insane Millia who thrives on momentum thanks to his spot-on execution of even the hardest Millia stuff. SBO success has been elusive, though.
-DIO (AB)- strong player who plays a risky character.
Getting too long to keep doing long descriptions, the rest of these guys are good but I will lump them together for descriptions (if they get any at all!):
AB: shrug who knows
AN: Domi- how could I forget this guy?
AX: Shoot/Shuuto
BA: Nabaiken
BR: shrug I forget
CH: Susumu, some other guy who's name eludes me -edit- torowa is his name
DI: H.H, Kazuki, Makoto- strong players who get unlucky. Some of these guys literally invented modern Dizzy.
ED: Shadow- I think I beat this guy once in Slash before he trashed me another 5 times in a row
FA: ElvenShadow- AMERICA F--- YEAH
IN: Inoue (not to be confused with OS Inoue), Ten- Ten has been "the other I-No" for a while but now KO1 is playing Millia for SBO so I guess Ten is just "the I-No" now?
JA: LOX, kazu- LOX is apparently really good and qualified, haven't seen him play though. kazu is apparently famous or something but again, never seen him play and apparently he chokes in tournament.
JO: DC, MSY- forget DC's exact tag (kawagimi no DC or something), famous for coin spam early on so he can play coinless/all lvl1 Johnny. MSY is OLD SCHOOL, disappeared for a while but he's at least making hot combo videos again... shame he isn't making combo videos out of people in matches like he used to.
KY: Buppa, Lyrical Lit, Miu- Buppa is a really good Ky who probably deserved his own spot above, solid solid solid. Lyrical Lit apparently doesn't know how to push any direction but forward, hilarious match against BLEED last year. Miu is a reckless Sol player who places well at... Evo, lol, now plays Ky.
MA: Koinuma, kedako
MI: kaqn- shrug I don't like kaqn but he's good
OR: Inoue (not to be confused with I-no Inoue), Sanma- Sanma does big combos but I dunno what else to say about him, he certainly hasn't qualified yet (ever?)
PO: ASA, Ha-ken- deserve to at least get this mention
RO: nezu, KO1- nezu and KO1 both play super crazy aggressive Robots, though KO1 is playing Millia for SBO. nezu breaks out more silly overclock tricks while KO1 does more silly slashback shenanigans.
SL: Niga, Hase, kami-chan- Niga was on Ogawa's team and pretty much ensured that that Ogawa didn't have to play till semis or something. Hase is famous for doing huge combos and OCVing big names, but that's pretty much what Slayer has been doing this year.
SO: Mouse, P.C., kusoru- Mouse has fallen off the map after making some noise earlier this year, P.C. is old school but hasn't been prominent lately, kusoru plays reckless and hilariously stupid except his defense and execution are really good and he does the weirdest gimmicks in the midst of stupidity so he manages to win matches he "shouldn't."
TE: who cares they all play the same
VE: shrug who knows
ZA: Imo- famous for changing his tag a lot and for his utterly boring turtling match against Sharon (I think) in the SBO3 finals.

yukinose (lol what happened to that guy)
Hmm, he used to be so beastly back in #R... I guess it hurts that he's from the Touhoku area (north east) where there's comparatively less players than the Kantou (like, the middle) or the Kansai (little to the east) areas. I did see him in a few videos recently, although b/c I haven't been around GG in so long I couldnt tell if he was actually still good or not.

yukinose has been irrelevant to high level GG for a while now... even back in the later days of #R, he was pretty much a non-factor on his team, but he was the GG SBO good luck charm; his teams always went deep despite relatively weak contributions from yukinose himself. He's been on as many SBO winning teams as Ogawa, if not more, despite never being as good a player. I'm pretty sure he's mostly a Melty Blood player at this point.

edit: completely unrelated, but I remember thinking he was a rather good looking chap in SBO1.

So it's been like 2 months since I read Umezono's blog entry leading up to the SBO qualifiers last year, but iirc Umezono and Matsuda are long time friends, and Umezono had met Shiroitachi for the first time introduced by Matsuda just for finding a 3rd guy for their team. I remmeber something along the lines of Umezono being rather taken back by Shiroitachi's demeanor but I dont really remember what exactly it was about him... (maybe it was like, Itachi was really stoic usually but would be a huge prankster at times, or smth like that) I'm assuming these three are mutual friends.

no idea who that is lawl. wtf is Fubar still in Japan?
Issay (yu) Shimono (ur) Misawa (ke)
qualify from Gamer's Vision. I believe this was the area finals so the winner gets a ticket to SBO.
Team name is something along the lines of "Tardy Devil" (ie always late - "Devil" doesnt really mean devil, but rather refers to the fact that they are ALWAYS late)

I thought this was kinda humorous, from the Vision Blog.
Hello, this is "Takeyama", the Vision employee in charge of Tekken.
I'm supposedly the Tekken employee yet I spend my days playing Beatmania II DX, but today I happened to realize something.
The Mahjong Fighting Club 6 that we got EIGHT machines of in exchange for 1 Tekken machine is hardly getting annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnny use from our customers.
The Boss (KSK) was saying "That was a good buy", but this is clearly a burden to the arcade!!
I couldn't stand this tragic situation any longer so I sheepishly asked KSK about changing the pricing system on the machines, but he said "I don't know the rules for Mahjong so I can't tell," and isn't being helpful at all.
I got so ticked off that I decided to just fuck with the pricing settings myself.
After thinking and grinding for several hours...
Mahjong Fighting Club 6 will now be 100yen 2 credit for a limited time!
East-Wind mode is 1 credit, Half-round mode is 2 credit....
yadayada the rest is just logistics - but I thought the KSK bashing was kinda fun

umm... yes? I always assumed FUBAR was a Japanese player with a hilariously un-Japanese tag. Maybe I'm wrong, though.
Unless you meant fubarduck, then no, he's been in the States for a while and is an entirely different person from FUBAR.

You guys are right it's so hard to be interested in any other topics on TL. When I come on this site I no longer browse the general forums or any other, I come straight to this thread and soak up all this knowledge and discuss the awesomeness that is fighting games haha. Great thread thanks again Bill!
