To prevent korean players rape local heroes again and again and again. Whiteguy players can't get sponsors and income when they crushed by korean every month. No local player,no audience,no money. Looks like Blizzard try to avoid the mistake on SC2 events, that's a good news.regional based leagues are absolutely important to promotions outside of korea.

I agree. Region lock is the probably the main reason that allowed LoL esports to become so big in the rest of the world. SC2 needed something like that since day1

If I recall at the very beginning of SC2 it kinda was. I remember Idra/Huk winning MLG's, players like Nony/Painuser making top 8 (Incontrol as well). That went away once Koreans started participating, but at first Koreans did not participate.
People wanted Koreans to compete at first. As time went on it changed.
I think it'd be awesome if there was a foreigner BW league, sounds like a lot of fun!

Yes people definitely wanted worldwide ladder and tourneys at first, until they realized that meant Korea winning everything.
The obvious answer is to have regions but allow people to play on different gateways without buying the game again (remember that?) and to have both regional and worldwide tournaments, so foreigners can ooh and aah when their favorite player manages to get a mineral before losing to the Koreans.

That's because, whether through genius or miracle, the partnership between MLG and GSL ended up bringing some very interesting players abroad.
- For many fans it was the first opportunity to see legends like BoxeR, NaDa and July in the flesh (not to mention, while they were still competitive in Code S in SC2)
- MC, the notorious heel of the Korean scene and best Protoss
- MMA and DongRaeGu, two rising stars that were largely unknown to anyone who didn't follow GSTL
- Bomber, who after a meteoric rise through Code A (and resulting hype by Artosis) was struggling in Code S
- Mvp, finally overcoming his small slump and returning to championship contender form
Then in 2012 and beyond it was like you could find a quarter of Code S and a quarter of Code A in pretty much every MLG / DH / IEM... not a bad thing for those of us who only care about watching the highest level StarCraft, but supposedly very frustrating for casual viewers.
In this conference, they mentioned about Blizzcon and reiginal based league(like overwatch).
Oh wow that sounds super interesting. I hope that press conference gets a thorough translation.
Has anyone found the original English audio for this? I can't seem to find it anywhere... I'm assuming they are speaking in English lol. How can it be so hard to find!
