Lakers keep their two picks, what a surprise. I hope teams learn to treat protected laker picks for what they're worth.
Also basketball is hard when 4 of the other team's starters are better than anyone on your roster. LMA being his usual playoff self, clumsy, tentative and passively bricking jumpers.
I honestly think the Lottery makes tanking worse. This year isn't a great example, but Philly's tanking probably lasted an extra few years a lot of the perpetually bad teams (like Phoenix is set up to be) are so because they get screwed in the lottery for a few years. If the Kings are as bad as I think they are going to be the next 3 years, and have expended all their luck this year , they will be bad for a decade.
I'd love eliminating the draft, but you have to remove rookie pay scale and max salary as well, and the majority of the union, which is middle class veterans, would get squeezed, so that is a DOA proposal.
Yep. I think system in play is about as good as it's going to get from an equity standpoint. If you're going to reward bad teams with high draft picks the incentive to lose will always exist.

for every team that "gets screwed" in the lottery is another non-playoff team that gets lucky. i like both the NBA and NHL lotteries because it says that if you're going to play the tanking game you're going to also have to incur additional risk. i slightly prefer the NHL lottery over the NBA lottery because teams that barely miss the playoffs have a better chance at getting a great pick in the draft.
by forcing orgs to incur substantial additional risk you can push teams towards getting better by improving their management staff. with teh "D" league the NBA has taken a solid step towards MLB style internal development.
want to get better? improve your d-league team. improve your scouting staff to find 2nd rounders with the potential to develop into NBA starters. Want to maximize the potential of all your recent picks and ur d-league players? hire better player development//coach staff.
For me watching "home grown" teams is much more fun than watching teams whose core players were "bought and assembled".
This was worse. But worse than what? Seems to me its either this is going to happen, or we are going to get an even more Moreyball (aka Boringball) league where score are 100-140 every game.
Imagine the guy who was far and away the best athlete in your school; That guy with stupid good body control. co ordination, and timing. imagine him focusing himself on getting good at these borderline incidents. Good luck trying to figure out what's real and what's BS.
