+ Show Spoiler + Round 3, the best in the series, starts at around 4:10 if you just want to skip there. Regular attacks sent to the opponent are based on chain explosions--the more explodes at once, the better--reversal attacks are more dangerous and sent over by shooting down regular attacks. There's some 40-ish set enemy patterns (which you get is nondeterministic but the formations are nonrandom), and if you blow all the enemies in one up simultaneously you get the "perfect", which gives you the most attacks and meter gain. Likewise, extras and bosses can be sent over by shooting down reversal attacks. Extras are invulnerable, and both extras and bosses and unique to each character, and can also be generated by using up meter. You have 5 life to start a round. Running into an enemy takes 1 life and stuns you. Hitting pretty much everything else: regular, reversal, extra, boss, or boss bullet takes 3. You gain back 1/2 life if the opponent runs into an enemy and 1 life if the opponent gets hit for 3 damage. If you chain explode the blue ball, you get fever mode temporarily, which makes you generate 2x the number of regular attacks IIRC (maybe reversals too?), and they become faster as well. If a round lasts over 100 seconds, death comes on both players' sides. Death is instant kill on touch. If you blow him up, he will come back in a few more seconds. At 100 seconds, death is pretty slow and weak, but he becomes faster and faster as the round progresses. If anybody can't figure out what's going on (likely) and would like to know, are interested at all, or just want a more detailed system and character analysis, let me know. The video quality is kind of bad, so it may be hard to see what's happening. This page has a few higher-quality match vids. If you see glitchy white boxes when a bunch of stuff is exploding, that's not to be blamed on YouTube quality but on the Neo Geo, the programmers, and maybe the playtesters. It's really not that distracting at all when you're playing. TSS is on 2DF Freeplay, btw.

Kuroda (Akuma/Gouki) VS Ino (Ken) + Show Spoiler + http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RCwpps4CvwY http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PuVwjHZeWVk comments: + Show Spoiler + Abso-fucking-lutely ridiculous. These two have this match-up down so hard that they don't even try some of the staple combos anymore. As Q, Kuroda's been known to red parry some crazy shit, and it goes to show when Ino rarely even tries cl.Mp->cl.Fp combo in fear that the Fp will be red-parried (Bill307 mentioned this in the Chuckuroda Norris thread on SRK). A lot of what Kuroda does with Akuma isn't new, but it's down so hard that you miss most of it. Things like ambiguous demon flip cross-ups and tricky wake-ups/air fireballs or lack-there-of. His ability to improvise hurricane comboes just blitzes my mind. On top of all of that, his zoning/spacing is so perfect that the only times he was punished for anything was when Ino freaking red-parries Kuroda's SAI. Just orgasmic. I've been watching these 2 clips nonstop and finding new things every single time. edit: spoilered the games to save on loading time

His gouki is sharp and very tight, and rarely misses return opportunities, but it's definitely a function of the player rather than the character. --- Also these games look way to "straight up" and repetitive, so it's most likely just practice matches b/w the two teammates. From the massive amount of hype from western 3s discussions (although I havent read any lol) I would have expected something more "WOW" than this tbh -- if he's as beastly as pple claim, he shouldn't ever lose to Inoue's subcharacter :O. Some of the more exotic tatsu combos... I'm pretty sure are not the best options, since otherwise we'd have seen yukiotoko/match use them already. As usual it looks like he isn't complete in terms of character knowledge (a la his yun) - which I imagine is why Inoue is playing him with a subchar. My other thoughts... I've already written them earlier in this thread.

As for losing to Ino's subchar, the tier chart (bah) says that Ken is one of Akuma's worst matchups, so it's understandable they'd be training that. Tier chart aside, Ino's ken is freaking nuts. There's some footage on nicovideo of him tearing it up against Nuki and Mov, which makes me sad that Ino can't play Ken on his SBO team. With all that blown out my ass, I think that Kuroda's akuma is at least (way) different than standard Akuma play, and might change the way Akuma is played as a whole from here on out. edit: and me thinks everyone accepts that dealing 2/5's of a full health bar to ken in one combo with no meter is godly.

Similarly, looking at Kuroda's style with gouki, there's almost no reason for him to stay with that character. What he has gained from teh character switch is more firepower per return, and more opportunities for returns - and it would seem that there are other characters that provide even higher returns than gouki in the same areas. The only reason to choose Gouki over say ken/chun that I can see right now, is that the character has very high dmg output with the least reliance on meter (whereas ken/chun dont deal "as" much dmg perhaps from guard/parry -> counters that land 100% of the time. I remember Namijin was extrmemly proficient at this kind of style of play). I guess taking Kuroda's defensive style and his near-flawless timing and input mechanics, perhaps the # of opportunities for such 'counters' and the amount of payload per counter is the logic behind his belief that Gouki is the #1 character - esp if you dont "rush", you dont build your meter to begin with -- a characterisitc of kuroda I suppose. You often see a Chun with half meter dp something and counter with some very low dmg move, same with ken/yun, but gouki can always give out near max capacity of dmg. Then, it's up to the player to instantly recognize which counter options will connect given the freeze frames of the opponent and the distance and input accordingly. I'm rambling so I'm goign to stop now. Not even sure if what I wrote makes any sense.

I never thought about the meterless damage of gouki.. it is really the highest among the 3s characters. in one of the two matches, ken blocked a crouching medium kick from akuma, and punished with a super(there was no parry). is it possible, or just kuroda made a mistake or something?

Wish me luck! ^^ Haji: yeah, that totally made sense, in fact I'd never even thought about it before. Gouki really does deal more damage when metreless compared to Ken and Chun Li. freelander: it's possible to reversal Ken's cr.mk with Ken's SA3 (you don't even have to get it reversal: SA3 on 2nd possible frame hits as well). So I'm not surprised that you can reversal Gouki's cr.mk with it as well. (And probably Ryu's, too.)

The whole time I watched it felt like 'He could be playing Ken mirror match and this would be no contest but instead he chose to handicap himself by playing Gouki'. Nevertheless, his play is sick. He could probably pick any of the mid-high tier characters and do just as well.
