I don't think Kuroda will be the biggest difference maker in this SBO. Time and time again the one who has changed outcomes of the entire tournament have been makoto players. There's a reason why she is the most feared character in tournament play -- coupled with the fact that there are more top level makoto players this year than ever before (ie Inoue and Boss electing to choose her), and that's the prediction I'll at least be willing to make.
2003 - Izu 2004 - J 2007 - Shiroitachi
btw the #1 GG player is still Ogawa right? (it's been like a year since I read anything about GG though so I might be outdated.
To be frank though, I'm looking forward the most to seeing Kurahashi's Guile again in a non-bastardized form of SF.
Now that you mention it, that's a pretty excellent point you made. Too bad I play 3s like crap in general >_< Its hard when you're mainly a MvC2 player, I get raped everytime I get knocked down via wake up games.. i guess only EXP can save me now
Fuck Google Translate. I am never trusting it to translate Japanese players' names again.
Here's why: first, put Tono's name 殿 into Google Translate and it comes back as "Gluteal". Then do a Google search for 殿 and translate the pages you get back: 殿 is replaced with "gluteal", "buttocks", or "rump".
So what does 殿 really mean? Surely the actual meaning can't be too far off from "Ass". Google Translate couldn't possibly be that bad, could it?
Dono/tono Dono and tono (both written 殿) roughly mean "lord" or "master".
Y'know, if only I'd taken a closer look at this page (the Japanese Wikipedia entry for 殿, translated into English), I would have realized something was amiss. Below are some of the phrases on the page:
"president of the buttocks"
"gluteal chief adviser to the Emperor"
Incredible. Now I'm honestly wondering if this is supposed to be some kind of a joke...
I actually wouldn't be surprised if they didn't put up any live streams this year, since last year pple uploaded the vids to youtube and most likely decreased DVD sales. (I can't imagine the "exposure -> more sales" argument to really work here --;
Man, the one thing I REALLY hate about Guilty Gear vids is that due to the low video quality, it's soooo hard to tell how much health the characters have left . That game needs more contrast between full and empty life bar.
Anyway, Chipp looks like an awesome character! Why is he C tier? Does he have really low health, or something? It seems that way, after seeing those 90% combos from Pot and Jam. :S (2nd round was definitely WTF O_O.)
People around here think Pot would fit my style nicely, since I mainly use Kira in AH, but imo Pot is waaay too slow and immobile. It seems like he needs a handful of grabs/combos (like 2 or 3) to win, which isn't really my style.
I prefer faster characters, and since GG doesn't have a fast grappler (like Kira or Makoto) as far as I can tell, I'd like to fall back on a character who's gay in other ways, like doing crossups and generally confusing the heck out of my opponent, etc. I learned a bit of Sol a week ago and he seems fun. Chipp looks like more fun after watching those videos, but I don't think I'll have the time to put into a low tier GG character to make him good. =/ AH and 3s are my main games right now.
I reeeeaaaally like Chipp. In every fighting game, I opt for the fastest character. In GG, that's Chipp. He has a number of perks (he can jump three times instead of 2, he has the fastest dash, etc) but the downside is his insanely hit points (or defense, I forget which). One solid punch in the face from Potemkin and the game is all but over. I like him anyway. He's a very fun character to play with - teleport mixups, etc. But yes, combine his low hp with the fact he has limited combat options (no fancy long range attacks/projectiles except for his taunt) and for that reason he has an extremely hard time against top tier characters like Eddie and Testament, both of which excel at making the battlefield work for them with minions, traps, projectiles, etc.
I completely agree with the video quality thing, too. You can hardly see the life displays.

I'd probably suggest Jam, since she fits the criteria of (a) fast, (b) grapple - regular throw into frc -> air combo (c) low air dash rushes.
I've only really played Ky Sol Baiken Anji, and dabbled in Jhonny Eddie Bridget, so I'm no expert though.
This looks like a decent tier list for GGXXAC with ratings for different categories (e.g. damage, pokes, mixup, anti-air) as well. I have no idea as a non-GG player, but isn't GG supposedly balanced for a fighter? So I hear? I guess that just means C tier characters at least aren't worse in every way than the others.

I'd say he still is the best GG player around. He is a real beast. I had the pleasure of playing him at Akiba Club Sega one day after his SBO victory! He still didn't say if he was going to take part in this years SBO, and I so far he has not been in any of the qualifiers that have been held so far (unless I missed something). I'd say Machaboo, KA2 and Niga are hot for first spot as well. Machaboo OCV:ed some great teams last weekend so I guess he is still going strong. Also I play Ky like so I have some extra love for him.

Dustloops tier list if probably the best and most updates list you can find unless you know Japanese.
GG is really well balanced for a fighter, especially if you consider character diversity. There are still some matchups that are pretty tough (Chipp vs Potemkin anyone?), but overall there is no need to pick your character based on the tiers.
But well, anyone following GG knows Isa moved to Eddie and Nemo moved to Testament, so maybe we there is a slow move to top tier happening since the game has been out for so long now.

hehe GG has a large variety of gay characters :D but if you chose sol, then you wouldn't choose the gayest.
sol is actually quiete manly and straightforward (ok, some people thinks that having the largest priority shoryuken ever made in any game is gay but whatever), he has quite pathetic mixups (in gg terms, think of some shoto mixups), but he can make a nice 40% damage combo from many hits including his command grab.
If you are wanna be gay in the way you described, I can suggest: Dizzy: projectiles! projectiles! rushdown! she is fun to play, but she dies easily(almost as low health as chipp). Testament: he manipulates the playing field than no other. Top tier btw, fun to play. Zappa: the master of gimmicks and shit. This guy is just like when you merge "The exorcist" with the girl from "Circle". Btw he is basically 5 characters in one, wtf. Bridget: if you want some really gay stuff... a guy who looks like a girl, dresses like a nun, and fights with a transforming yoyo, WTF.. Crossups, confuse, it is all there. Millia:She is a very fast character, about second after chipp, she has about 30 oki options, .. very confusing O_O
About chipp: his defense is the lowest in the game, I play some 3s, and he feels weaker then Akuma, really.
Thanks hajilander. By the way, I'm also looking for a character that's relatively easy to learn. E.g. I wouldn't want a character like Robo-Ky with his heat metre thingy.
Edit: I REALLY like that tier list, by the way! With all the brief yet informative info for each character, it is an S++ tier list.

From what little I know, the tiers in GG are a lot closer to each other than, say, the tiers in 3s. Every fighting game that has different characters is going to have tiers, but the disparity between them is the real measure of balance.
Top-level AH2 at its finest. Alan takes on last year's AH1 SBO winner, Blue. But not even the champ can block Alan's onslaught of endless high/low mixups. Blue does some really sick things, though. Most notably, he intentionally drops a combo so that he lands when Alan air techs, then summons his Arcana for a massive air-unblockable attack that Alan cannot escape from. F'ing sick.
