This is something I am interested in knowing, what you guys think is the best duel in Star Wars?
Personally, Luke vs Vader in the Return of the Jedi is arguably my favourite Star Wars moment.
For me is Luke vs Vader in The Empire Strikes Back, I liked the Anakin vs Obi Wan, but the ending of that fight is just mehh, not the result but you are right about the "I have the higher ground", It should have been better if they finished that fight like the fights between Luke and Vader, on the same ground, and Obi Wan winning because of his excellent defensive skills and Anakins "bad" anxiety as the cause to make mistakes fighting.

Empire, Luke vs Vader: hands down. It is the most technical with two character of varying skill, lots of tricks and use of the environment. It remains compelling until the end. Vader is terrifying, but you still believe Luke could hurt him. Its an amazingly well done fight that is part action scene, part horror.
Every lightsaber fight in 1-3 is dance fighting without tension. It ends when the script requires the plot to move forward, after we have seen enough dance fighting. The only exception is the fight between Obi and Boba-fet. That one is pretty good.

Did you mean Jango Fett?

Agreed on best fight in prequels as Jango vs Obi Wan. Can you imagine if the Clone Wars were versus an army of Mandalorians (Jango's people, as in original lore) instead of the crap we got?
|
Ok so now that I am slowly better understanding people's critique on the prequels I decided to watch them again with that in mind. I have to agree that although the overall story is solid imo many parts aren't "expressed" well. Like the whole Anakin/Padme love story could have been a lot less cheesy. I also agree with the guy from the videos just posted earlier that it would've been much better if Darth Maul had survived Episode I and they merged Dooku and him into one overall more interesting character.
And seriously that security on that droid main planet sucks donkey balls. First a jedi spy sneaks in unnoticed, then like 100 jedi's catch them by surprise, and if that's not enough an entire fucking army of over a million clones takes them by surprise! Mace Windu could've ended the fucking war when he was sneaking up on Jango Fett and Dooku if he had brought a bazooka and shot em in the back...
Oh well.

Adam Savage(Myth Busters) worked on Episode 1 and said the crew refereed to Darth Maul as "el diablo" because he was basically the "Devil Sith" just to make sure people knew he was evil. Man, those movies. The worst part about them is you can see a good movie somewhere in there. Like if it was just a buddy cop story between Obi and Anakin.
But go watch some interviews with Portman doing PR for Revenge of the Sith. Those are pretty fun. You can tell she was pretty done.

I just can't get past how horrendously shit the OT movies look nowadays.
I mean, just look at this yeti scene from V: www.youtube.com Nothing Jar Jar says or does is worse than that scene. I actually cringed in my seat when I saw that last time.
So yeah, I'm that 1 in 100 dude that prefers the prequels, bring on the hate
As for best duels, prequels all the way too. Obi-wan vs Grievous, Yoda vs Palpatine, Obi-wan vs Anakin, Darth Maul fight, ... I'll take all the dancing/spinning/jumping over the incredibly boring fights in the OTs.

It's not really that the fights themselves were more interesting in the OT, but the fact that they told a story. The PT fights were better filmed but never had all that much meaningful dialogue or backstory to make them matter.

Well, he did survive and he did have robot legs. At least that's how it was in all of the (official at the time) spin-offs in SWCW, comics etc.
You can even buy a toy of Maul after the encounter, when he succumbed to madness and his brother found him:
After that he got more regular robot legs.

Here, I'm talking about strictly movie plots. The spinoffs/extras are definitively in a lower tier of SW relevance.

Well, I think that the Clone Wars animated series (both of them) told a much better story and had much better characters than the prequels.

If you can't get past some dated SFX, and that ruins movies for you, that is missing out on so much great Science Fiction.

Don't forget it was re-edited and made much less scary by showing the giant wampa monster in the "special edition" (which is awful compared to the original). In the original much less is shown, leaving much more to the viewer's imagination and creating better atmosphere.

The biggest shame with the prequels is they managed to make me unexcited for episode 7...
Haven't followed it at all. I'll probably go see it 1-2 weeks after release, after christmas. Unless people say it's really poor. What's the average feeling ? Excited or cautious ?
