I hope it's not a direct remake...I beat that game 5 times.
Looking forward to it, I hope they add more to it, like ffx style skill progression but also keeping material mechanics.

My childhood. Don't fuck this up, don't add but don't fucking subtract either Square. Everything minigames at Golden Saucer, Fort Condor MUST be remade. everything must be remade. Traveling around with the airship, and even the SUB, Chocobos! Walking into SHinra HQ, escaping on Motorcycles.
Do. Not. Fuck. This. Up.

I honestly don't mind if they add stuff.
But yeah. They better not remove anything. As I've said before, I do not expect them to.

Guess I'll be firing up FF7 in the next few days.
I am so very hyped for this. Words cannot describe it.

If they want to add a few hours of gameplay made an extra optional boss or two I would not stop them. Even though it was available in the PAL version when I bought the FFX remaster getting to fight all those extra bosses gave the game new life to me.

Quoting Christian Nutt from Gamasutra: So, too, is Final Fantasy XIII filled with Final Fantasy Stuff -- most notably and stupidly, crystals -- and it’s clear that all of that junk is there because the developers assume that it has to be there, not because it enriches the world or the game’s play experience. “The new films just borrow and recycle from the original ideas, as if there’s no way to create anything new,” says Plinkett. And that’s what hamstrings Final Fantasy XIII, too.
Hell, the game’s director, Motomu Toriayama, asked character designer Tetsuya Nomura for “someone like a female version of Cloud from FFVII." Even Matsuda, president of Square Enix, recognized that the company "lost its focus" in an interview: If you focus too much on the global aspect, you might lose sight of who you’re actually making the game for,” explains Matsuda. “For example, if you look back at 2013, we’ve had some home console games made for a global audience that struggled. FF6 and to a lesser FF7 were made for a more mature audience that targeted late teens and young adults who played RPGs - that's a niche. FF13 and following episodes were made for teenagers and casual gamers, which didn't even work that well for Square Enix. Yeah. I believe FFXIII was a financial success, but SE has admitted that they tried too hard to cater to the western audience, and lost their vision in the process. They have since said they will aim to focus on what they know, and will not try to cater to westerners anymore. As for people who say SE has forgotten how to make good JRPGs, Bravely Default is excellent. So, there is that. To be even more fair to FF13 its the FF game requiring the most skill and knowledge in a speedrun setting while most FF games rely on spamming the same shit over and over again. So while the story was pretty terrible the gameplay is nothing to laugh at.

I was never that into FFVII as the rest of the world, but I did enjoy it. A remake is SO necessary for this game, while VIII and IX look pretty decent and are very playable still, VII just looks bad, definitely looking forward to it.
That said, on the Gamespot stream they were discussing that they wouldn't want to play this if they stuck to the turn based combat, hoping they would make it more like FFXV. I was like... what? no... why would they change that, wouldn't be a remake if they turned the game into an action game just because apparently next gen graphics are too good to be bothered with turn based combat according to some people on Gamespot. I really don't want VII to have kingdom hearts or ffxv like combat, that would totally ruin it in my opinion, some tweaks would be nice but stick to turn based combat.

TBH, I'd rather see a 3-D remake of FF6 than FF7 getting a polish. But whatever, 7 wasn't my first FF game so I don't love it as much as most people.

Agree. They can polish the combat mechanics, but they cannot mess with the turn-based system. I don't really imagine the materia system would work well without turn-based fights. The two form a solid strategic combo.

wot wud u change to ff7 combat system?
it was only challenging when u were having to spam heals to barely stay alive whilst dealing damage
99% of the time i just amoved with basic attacks iirc. all materia was sick but apart from the very start of the game i think i just amoved everyone
so maybe if combat was more fluid/less wait times
maybe if it was a lot more "dangerous" , but negative effects of losing combat dont necessarily have to be "you die, game over", maybe you dont gain xp or ap if you get wrecked in a fight. or maybe you LOSE xp/ap if you screw up a fight (like lastgen MMOs, where dying actually meant something and it created huge tension)
