Horford is basically saying Delly shouldn't try so hard, which is basically what more talented people say when they don't like getting outworked. Delly isn't doing Bill Laimbeer shit and I don't think he's been as dirty as that Olynyk play. Horford sounds like Roger Dorn in Major League. I agree, in the abstract all 3 plays in the last 4 games (and his bizarre feud with Mike Dunleavy, which I don't know who started, but they both obviously were trying to injure each other) would individually just be plays. I do think, however, this pattern is highly unlikely to be benign. To me, I think he has intent to be dirty, if not intent to injure. I wouldn't let him or Horford play in Game 4 if I was the commissioner. And I think a lot of the Horford excuses are BS. He wanted to hit Delladova in the head with an elbow without getting caught. He missed because he was trying to make it look less obvious. I had a guy try that BS on me in a soccer game because we were torching him, we both ended up getting ejected. I don't mean the complaining to refs when the play is over, but staying in the back court to complain while his team tries to play 4 on 5 defense. To me, that's the most rage-inducing thing in the NBA and there's literally no excuse for it, especially in a playoff game. Blatt won't say anything but someone like Tristan Thompson should yell at him. Or even Varajao if he's still on the team. And it wasn't just an injury or cramps. He's been doing it his entire career if he thinks the non-call is outrageous enough. Yes. I don't understand how he doesn't get more techs for some of it as well.

Edit: As for the Dellavedova-Korver play (I don't think there was anything really from Dellavedova with Horford, didn't warrant a flag 2), people don't usually dive at a ball like that, for a reason. You dive straight for the ball, and try to avoid contact as much as possible, because there actually is such a thing as playing too hard. Rolling is a very dangerous move, because if you just so much as catch anything with your body (well, a foot usually), it will get road-rolled under your weight even further (you won't push it out of the way like you'd to if you dive in a straight line without rotation). Now I don't think for a second that this was intentional, but yes, I do think this is a bit of a dangerous play. However I don't really like how every scrappy small player that's not a star is automatically called dirty, just because he's battling with the big fellows :D.

Also, I like how you're trying to compare shit coaches drill in the kids' head to make them competitive and the understanding of the game at the NBA level. Please refrain from simple ad hominems when all you have to share is how the game is taught to kids. I repeat, there is such a thing as playing too hard, and that's obviously not what you tell young players whom you're trying to forge into competitive machines. Edit: And I hope we don't coach young players to purposely leg-lock other players, in Australia or anywhere else (ok the Taj one is a bit too easy to rely on :D).

Anytime a ball is rolling and people dive for it it's a dangerous play. That's what Shaq and Chuck were saying all last night. Chuck threw it out there like "50% of the time someone hits someone else like that it's a bad injury, and that's a shame, but it don't mean you stop playin' hard."(paraphrasing). Then he went on to talk about how that's how lesser talented players have to play, and Shaq came over the top saying that's how everyone should play, not just 'lesser talented' players.

There's a difference between what a guy like laimbeer used to do and two guys going for a loose ball.

This is one of the things I think the NBA has lagged on: rectifying the bad incentives created by rule adjustments. Flopping is the quintessential example. Does Lebron really care if he gets a $15k fine for flopping if he wins a playoff game with the flop?
