Edit: I added everything to the OP. Tons of good Stunfest information in there. I'm happy that all of this information was available ahead of time. Check it out if you want to see how brutal this tournament is gonna be.

I will say that while I initially thought the game looked worryingly much like SFxT2, the sounds of impact redeem it in my book. I hated how xT sounded like -- really weak Tekken-like "poofs" when you hit instead of the kind of bone-crushing sounds you get when you kick someone in the face in USF4. At least SF5 looks to be more of that -- when you get hit, at least it freaking sounds like it. So... consider me cautiously optimistic. But the game speed is still worrying.

Translation: Kayane : When's your challenge with Santarou? Luffy : It's not gonna happen Kayane : Why? Luffy : It's illegal. And pretty risky for that amount. The problem is apparently that France has some excessive laws when it comes to money. Now, all of this is information I have acquired from r/Kappa, so I think it's fair to say that I'm gonna need a secondary source on that... but here's what was written: Simple answer: French law being dumb. France has really stupid laws when it comes to handing money to someone. As an example: you're legally not allowed to advertize a cash prize in France. I can't tell you exactly why, all I know is that you can't. Look at Red Bull Kumite. That gigantic event went all without ever mentioning anything about the prize for winners. You need to have a specific company status to be able to publicly state you're handing money to people in France, and most tournaments (at least in poverty FGC) are ran by low budget associations which can't get this status Overall France has a pretty... particular culture when it comes to money, it's kind of a social taboo to speak about money there (no one will ever tell you how much they make at their job for example, or how much they pay rent, unless you're really close to them. Culturally speaking money is a private matter in France) Gambling as a whole has a pretty strange status in France. A few years ago every company involved in gambling wasn't allowed to deal in France (most of the online casinos were based in the UK and around for example). I remember a football match in France where an Italian team (AS Roma) had to wear a jersey without sponsor because their sponsor was a casino. Plenty of small bs is around and that's what's happening here TLDR: Not legal because le French law is not understandable Well. That sucks.

There's an insane amount of stunlock, but we haven't seen the neutral game yet, so maybe the speed will be okay. I didn't respond to this yesterday but I feel similarly. I think there were some great features of SFxT (after v2013 fixes and all that, launch was a nightmare) but just because that game is dead/dying doesn't mean SF5 needs to be SFxT2. OTGs and bounces and shit can be fun and fit if done well, but the awkward hitboxes/juggles and slow lumbering animations are unnerving. I'm hoping the trailers are just showing off the new stuff and maybe look slow/heavy/clunky like xT because we're not playing, or slowed down for emphasis on features. They've really improved the aesthetic compared to the first trailers but if the game speed remains the way it looks it's going to be weird. Though I'll be the first to say it's way too soon to draw conclusions. Only hope, and make comparisons between footage as it's released. Still excited for more character reveals. As someone who really got into the scene with SF4 but dabbles and respects the older titles, I'd love to see some awesome characters make a return. Very hype.

My friend was telling me about when he met Santarouman in Japan. Apparently that guy was playing in one of the local arcades everyday for like 6 hours. He was specifically hunting down top Elena players to get matchup experience so he can beat Sako, dunno for what event though. My friend told him he was crazy for spending so much money in the arcades when he could be playing for free at home but Santarouman wanted the lagless arcade experience for practice. Dude is super dedicated and ridiculously competitive, curious to see how he would've done against the best Rose in the world.

It feels like if this doesn't happen, one (or both) of the participants does not really want it to happen.

They hold normal tournaments in France after all and this one just happened to have only two entries.

http://www.displaylag.com/reduce-input-lag-in-pc-games-the-definitive-guide/ The absolute best settings: * Ingame VSync: OFF * Framerate: FIXED * Antialiasing: NONE The in-game VSync feature adds up to 3 frames worth of input lag all by itself, meaning it nearly doubles (going from 3.5 to 6.2). This is the biggest culprit and the one you should turn off immediately. Framerate should be set to fixed, as setting it to smooth can introduce actual glitches. No, I don't mean graphical glitches, I mean "characters may fall out of ultras randomly". If you have a graphics card and monitor capable of G-SYNC or FreeSync, you can enable that instead of VSync. It's just a better version that doesn't affect input lag in the same way VSync does. In Nvidia's case you get almost no difference, and if you have an AMD card and a monitor capable of FreeSync, it's actually beneficial to turn it on (3.5 with FreeSync vs 3.7 with VSync off). If you don't have G-SYNC or FreeSync but hate screen tearing with a passion and you want VSync enabled, the guide will tell you how to minimize the increased input lag. It depends on your graphics card and setup, whether you run it in windowed mode, etc.
