Hello!
What is this? Coagulation and I have been making a card game for almost the past 3 years. You can see the FAQ at http://www.manaspirits.com/faq
Beta Test Our print & play beta test will go live by Friday, May 8th. If things go well, I will be able to release it on Thursday... If you are interested, please sign up here.
Coagulation Is getting married this weekend! The end of an era... Wish him good luck!!
What's in the box? My friend Kevin has helped me out on this quite a bit. He coded a program that assembles the card images into one image. It can also assemble them into 18 card printer sheet tifs. It's insanely useful and frankly we wouldn't have gotten this far without it. He's also been a big help with giving detailed feedback on potential rules and gameplay ideas.
In short, I owe him a lot. He asked for a set of signed cards. So Coagulation signed a full deck of alpha cards, and I built him a signed box of the beta version. I thought I'd use it as an opportunity to share what comes in the box.
All components are prototypes for testing only! Anything can, and probably will, change.
The box.
The stuff inside.
The structure inside. That divider is to hold the cards nicely. Not sure if this will be cardboard, a tray, or an insert yet. The black cards are professionally printed Rev.16c cards. Unfortunately, since they were printed we made some changes to both the rules and the cards. The white cards are Rev.16d cards I printed and cut out of cardstock that can be slid in front of card sleeves to patch the game
140 poker size (3.5" x 2.5") cards. Currently we are printing 310gsm linen cards. I've never signed artwork before and did a pretty terrible job! Note before Coag kills me: These layouts are old and the artwork was all massively updated since I printed these cards.
16 page rule book (8" x 5"). 12 page lore book (8" x 5"). Currently we are unsure of whether this will ship, be a stretch goal, or end up on the website.
60 custom bottle caps to track Mana.
12 Hero tracking stands (5.75" x 3.75"). Sorry for the terrible picture. These will come with clips to track Life Points around the edge and some sort of stand. We're using binder clips for now... They are two-sided so you can see everyone's game state fairly easily.
Not pictured: one die
Thanks for reading. Here's a badass Archangel:

Looks really great! I've been watching this since you unveiled it, and I'm really happy to see all of your hard work turn into a real product! Congrats!
Also, congrats Coagulation!! Marriage is an amazing partnership and I'm sure we on TL.net are all cheering for you! I wonder what your first post-marriage mafia game will be like! :D
Finally, for the wedding day: just relax and enjoy it! All of the hard work has already been done to prepare for it, so let things happen the way it will. Good luck!

By the way, I think I'm going to finally have enough free time where I can sign up as a beta tester. I haven't done it yet, because I was worried I wouldn't be able to give constructive feedback.
Is there a lot to print out? I don't have a printer I can use but I could always go to a print shop or something, if it doesn't cost too much.
Edit: I have a lot of experience with strategic board games and card games. I haven't updated my boardgamegeek profile in years but according to my list on there, I have at least 159 board games (includes expansions).

Alright, beta is live. If you're on our mailing list, you should have gotten an email. It might be in your Promotions tab in Gmail. If you're not but are still interested, you can access the beta at http://www.manaspirits.com/beta
Coag and I really put a lot of sweat into this. His art is amazing and I've spent countless restless nights toiling over the rules. I'm finally confident that the game is in a good state, and I hope you guys enjoy it. And if you don't, I really hope you still give feedback on what you didn't like.
