You could still get in trouble even if you cut him off after. Wanna fight about it? lol, I kid, I kid. I never said that he couldn't stand straight just that he was leaning on the bar. And when I say that he slurred his words what I mean is that I could hear it in his voice that he'd had a few. but later I realized he might also have had a speech impediment which added to it and part of why I think he took such great offence to being cut off. I included details like that because a lot of people reading will never have worked in a bar and might not know the kind of tell tale signs we look for. It's one of those "you have to be there" to be able to tell kind of things. Also I talked about the potential legal liability NOT because I was worried I would be in trouble if there was a cop there but because a lot of people have no idea that venues even have the responsibility to cut patrons off. A lot of countries have a very different and more lax attitude towards it. I find prevention is better than cure. It's not like people are 100% sober and then suddenly hit a point where they're drunk off their tits. there's a small area in the middle where they're buzzed and you can tell that your going to have to cut them off soon. They generally take it a lot better if you forewarn them, gives them a chance to enjoy their last, say goodbyes and then leave. Rather than waiting at the bar for a drink before being denied. Like I said. Had to be there to make that judgement call. EDIT: If someone "can't stand straight" or is otherwise over the line of how much they've had obviously I cut them off then and there.

Being right but yelling like an ass hat is still good, but you hit it out of the park with the cool and level. So yes, have at it buddy.

I now realize what explains SO much of this situation. Guy wasn't drunk. He had a bad batch of drugs. Or at least that's what I think. Being the uncultrured nerd that I am I was completely unaware of a huge two day music festival that was happening nearby. The amount of unexplained crazy agression we had over that period and the police reports of idiots running around the place on drugs and being idiots makes me think the two are related. The first day of the festival we had someone pick a fight with our biggest security gaurd who was looking at a horse race on tv. "hey, you know anything about horse races" "nah mate, I was just watching" "yeah, cause you have a fucking horses head. you look like one" "excuse me?" when asked to leave he started throwing punches grabbing at the gaurds shirt trying to kick him etcetc. Also on the day in OP after I left the manager who took over was verbally attacked by a guy who was angry because someone didn't put lime in his water even though he didn't ask for it (did he mean wedge of lime or lime cordial, the world will never know, he was too angry to be able to explain it to anyone). That guy also went completely off the handle and had to be restrained and shipped off by security gaurds (who arrived after I left). Apparently we were a hairs breadth away from having to call the cops about him. Not to mention several more instances of random agression encountered over those two days. This is not a violent venue. These two days were completely out of character and Monday was right back to normal. The gaurds are saying the same thing. Something pretty bad was being passed around during the music festival. Don't do drugs kids! not even once. It leads to going up to the biggest bouncer you can find, telling him he looks like a horse and then punching him in the face. It doesn't end well.
