As a SC fan who found out about this scene with the Liquid Ken/KDJ and The Smash Brothers announcement (oh my God what an amazing documentary) I'm starting from the bottom here. So do you guys have any tips for where to start improving my play from a totally casual base? I've played on and off for years with my brother and friends, but I didn't even know about any advanced techniques or tactics until now (also, I've always played Link which it appears may be not ideal). Also, is there a website with TL-esque functionality in relation to streams and events? A website where I can find the big upcoming tournaments and get the streams when they start? Cheers, Q I come from a similar background and only decided recently that I wanted to get a lot better at this game. I also used to main Link, because he was my main character in SSB 64, and I had only ever played melee a handful of times. When I found out that he wasn't so great apparently, I switched to Marth. He had the closest play style to Link compared to other characters that I found, mainly because they both use swords. No projectiles like Link has, but Marth's still a pretty awesome character. I watched a quick video guide from Ken about some techniques that Marth players can use. If you switch you him you might want to take a quick glance through it. Guide starts at about 20 min and goes over things like spacing, ledge guarding, what Ken Combo looks like (looks sick when he executes it), various Marth moves etc. Also, Marth's grab is crazy ridiculous good.

Cheers, Q Play Falcon! He's pretty hard at the beginning compared to say, Marth, but he's super fun. Landing a solid knee is a great feeling.

still kinda irks me how much the circuit rewards people with time and money on the east coast. i don't mind zero or soft or whatever but them making it in over any of the top 20 in cali would be kinda disappointing

If you are seriously playing smash, attending events and practicing like a blue assed fly, please for the love of god don't main fox/falco/marth, show some originallity, show some inspiration. You, yes YOU can revitalize and revolutionize SSBM with your amazing non-S class character! Make the spectators happy! Get outside the box! Be different!

Not everyone who plays aims to be #1. There's plenty of chars outside of the S tier who are viable enough.
