Happy DRG got out, he's a lot more skilled than that series showed...
Imagine if fungal growth did +10 vs armored! Mind = blown!

Impact came so close to Code S, so sad. He played really well at least, so much potential.
Can't really complain considering he had to face DRG in that last match though.

I think its a problem with Zerg mechanics. If your opponent can rebuild a new army really fast from stockpiled larva, then any delay in your re-max will kill you. If you spend your resources on tech, you wont have enough units to defend. So there's never a good time to transition, unless you can win a good fight and take a lead. Then , you have a cushion you can use to tech. But if you've got the lead, why not just go kill them? At least with T or P it will take two production cycles to remax, giving time for one player to invest in tech and transition.

Oh, the cries of Terran. Does fungal do spell damage? Because that would also shred immortals.

When PvP is in the same situation, they come out with Photon Overcharge to delay and give the defender a chance to catch up. Obviously PO is a shitty spell that inadvertantly really hurt PvT, but I'm just saying it's not impossible to come up with some kind of solution...

All you need is roach, roach is all you need...so sad :/

True. But PvP is still limited by the number of gates for warp ins, and those cant be stockpiled. If you trade armies evenly, there's enough time before rebuilding to make some tech, structures or upgrades.
Equivalent for ZvZ PO would be for Spines to do bonus damage against Armored Biologicals: Roach, Infestor, Ultra. That way, roaches can clear the map for you, but they can't win the game.
|
Well PO is stupid as shit and should never have been in the game to begin with. Giving zerg the ability to supercharge overlords to shoot banelings or something would be equally stupid. ZvZ is what it is, there are simply no other good units to build.
Also spines do bonus damage to armored already.

Mmmmm, you make a very valid point.
Zerg need a SpineHatch, hahahaha....

Aww, I missed everything (as usual). How were each of the players?

Bbyong was on fire in his TvZ, did extremely well Tassadar was pretty terrible Impact was quite solid, showed off his potential quite a bit DRG seemed a little off-form but put on a good enough showing

Bbyong played both a pretty strong bio and mech TvZ all night. The TvZ games had a few stinkers but I'd say there were at least 3 good ones in there worth watching. Nothing incredible though.
DRG looked a tad shaky. Great mechanics, but not the best decisions as usual.
Impact looked competitive. Him making code S would not have been a shock.
Tassadar made me wonder how he even got here...

I went to my two hour French Occupation and Resistance in the French Novel lecture in a pretty bad mood. I was gutted for Impact to get so close yet so far. But now I'm a bit more philosophical about it all. Whilst it would have been fantastic to see an Axiom player in Code S, Impact showed off his potential well and played some good games. I like DRG and there can be no shame losing to a great player of his calibre. I'm sure Impact's time will come and if not Season 3 this year I'm sure he'll make Code S in 2015.
And Heart winning the first qualifier for Lone Star Clash 3 softens the blow a little.
