You won't really be able to fully appreciate the skill and thought being displayed in each game unless you play each one enough to grasp the basics.

Saying you tried to watch Evo and thought it was boring is like saying you watched the Olympics and thought it was boring. You could have had the misfortune of coming across a game that didn't grab your interest.
Unless you don't like fighting games in general. In which case, your question is asking for the equivalent of "why do you like Coffee? I think it tastes terrible."

The SSB:Melee tournament was real fun. Injustice looks like a terribly boring game. I couldn't spend more than 10min watching that game before I had to exit.

I watched a lot of the SSBM tournament and really felt the hype, so sick.
Nice photos, thanks for this.

out of this world as always, nice SSB:Melee shot

really nice photos man, thanks for sharing

As much as SSBM was fun, KoF is the swagest of them all.

Out of all the events in gaming. I truly enjoy Evo the most. You got some pretty good pics too!

There really is something great about watching 2 nerds sitting right next to each other duking it out in front a little TV. Now that's gaming!

Well I hope you don't think I was the one bored, I thought it was an amazing event lol. I just find it personally more exciting if you know the game you're watching at least on a basic level.

First day of UMvC3, pool play, I was all "Man this sucks compared to SF4, screen's so full of useless SFX, I don't understand what's going on at all, plus the training stage has that dark background so you miss a lot of shit. Meh." Last day for the finals I was hyped as fuck.
Between the two, I had the basic mechanics and some trivia explained to me, and through looking at the pool play I could understand the system and "picks" better—so I knew whether to get worried or hyped for a player when he only had Vergil left with or without X-Factor available. Also the level of play significantly improved and it was visible even for a newbie like me, so if you looked at Injustice or Mortal Kombat during the pool play rather than the finals of KoF or UMvC3 woould make a huge difference.

I liked the watching this years Evo especially the SSBM because i think Scar and Toph's casting is quite superb. Kind of like a laid back casting but still very informational. Something similar to a 2GD cast or BTS cast, it makes it way more enjoyable.
Norcal Regionals Grand Final- Scar and Toph casting + Show Spoiler +
P.S. Prepare for the gasps

Saw Evo 2013, it looked absolutely amazing. I saw Xian win SFIV, that was great too :D. Also, Infiltration is a god.

holy shit spooky's set-up looks ridiculous. that guy is a god among men for doing what he does for the FGC.

Great photos and a great event. Wish I could have gone. Shit was hype!

The whole melee tourney was soooo good. i fucking hate that james chen was commentating the top 8; why on earth was he commentating smash when he knows only the basics of the game?
|
MK and SSB were the best games imo

Probably because he's been part of the FGC since 1995, and they wanted to end the silly segregation between the FGC and Smash community.
