I took photos for Polygon at Evo. I created a photo essay and posted all the photos I took here: Evo 2013 in Photos.
But here is a small sampling:

Modern LCDs do all sorts of post processing, most can't turn these features completely off. Also these features are dynamic in that the work they do to each frame might be different, resulting in a varying refresh rate. When dealing with games that can require single frame button input / reactions these sorts of post processing can really mess with a players ability to properly play. Heres an article about what these TVs have done for rhythm games http://www.edge-online.com/features/how-hdtv-killed-rhythm-action/

Also, what I love most about EVO is the raw passion from it. You can see it in these pictures, as fans and players show their emotions about something they care so much about. And once you start trying to learn how to play these games, you can really start to appreciate the skill they are demonstrating.

Melee, which is played on Gamecube/Wii and thus has no HDMI support. All other games were played on ASUS VH236H LCD TVs, since they were run on PS3s in 720p or 1080p through HDMI. Fighting games are a mix of thought, guessing games, and execution, some emphasizing one over the others. What did you find boring in your viewing experience, out of curiosity?
