So if you're interested in a good martial arts manga/manhwa and stuff like Tower of God/Holyland appeals to you, then there's a series out that I know quite a few people are following because it's insanely addicting. This more so than any other series for me makes me feel that cliffhanger of pure awesomeness that happens when you just can't wait for the next chapter of a series--more so than ToG right now.
The name of this series is The Breaker: New Waves, and it's the sequel to the first season of the manhwa called The Breaker which started off a little slow but started having HUGE payoffs. I can't be the only one here who reads this series religiously given the large amount of manga/manhwa fans here on TL and I figured this series was epic enough to deserve its own appreciation/discussion thread.
Keep it civil everyone! Usual rules apply! Don't argue, have discussions and debates, no insults, use spoilers for new chapters, and if you don't like it, just stay out! No need to rain on our parade!
(If you want to get into this, I suggest you start off by reading The Breaker. It would be like watching The Empire Strikes Back without having seen A New Hope. It'd still be good, but you'd appreciate it that much more having seen the original. If you don't know what I'm talking about please go and beg somebody to introduce you to Star Wars wtf.)

I really liked season 1. New waves started off so badly.. They took a huge step backwards in the beginning but I feel its gonna get better from now on.
|
Holyland might be my favorite manga ever so i dont think the breaker is on that level, but it is a great manhwa if you like action types. The breaker season 1 is much better than new waves, but new waves has recently started to get interesting too so in a few months itll get really good.

Finally a thread for this. Best manhwa ever. amazing art and story.

Holyland is definitely my favourite manga, and this would probably be my third, behind All-Rounder Meguru. It's not nearly as realistic as those two, but there's some definite character development and an okay, if slightly drawn out, story. The recent chapters of NW are almost as good as the climax of The Breaker in my opinion. I can't remember a time where I've been more excited for a chapter to come out.

I love this series despite a few pretty serious flaws. I think the team that makes it does a really incredible job when it comes to illustrating the differences in power/skill between two vastly divergent sides. You can look at the end of the first series or any of the chapters with Jae-Kyu Kwon fighting in them.
In terms of a comparison to Holyland, I think that it really depends what you're looking for. I mean, that applies to anything, but despite having a determinator for a main character and revolving around fighting there isn't that much in common between the series besides general excellence.

Big fan of the series, although i am not sure i like the current arc. + Show Spoiler +While i like that he gets his ki-center fixed, i have to say that he's just doing way to well. I mean yes, Phoenix rebirth sth, but it's not like they fixed his ki-center, it's like they gave him the power to be top 50 martial artist out of nowhere

Really liked Veritas also.. sad it never got a deserving end!

LOL Beware the pacing is very slow. Like, holy fuck it took more 100 chapters just to resolve something that happened at the end of the first part.
|
I am on the fence about season 2. First season was awesome. But the pace has slowed so much and the story so far has not been very interesting. I want to care about the characters but my excitement level is quite low tbh.

It's pure Shonen
Really short chapters of OMG SHIOON IS A BADASS interspersed with token plot development every few pages.

The reason why i wait from 6 months to a year and then read all chapters at once.

I love that manhwa ! Style is awesome and characters are badass. I'm like giggling at each new chapter release !
|
It's been consistently good for a while now since it picked up in S2. I was just reading it because I liked the characters until a few months ago when it was like I NEED THE NEXT CHAPTER NOW every release.
I also love the anticipation from manga/manhwa almost as much as I like reading it. It's weird, it's like its own special thing where each week I get a bunch of little treats.

This series is so fun! Idk if you can compare TBNW to something like Holyland, they kind of go in different directions, but it's a pretty good fighting manhwa. And Shioon is a cutie.

The Breaker is the only manhwa that i chase diligently, that every chapter seems like a cliffhanger.
Awesome stuff. Never got bored, never stop anticipating the next chapter. Can't recommend it enough to anyone who remotely enjoys manga/fighting style mangas.

Great manhwa, really worth every chapter.

Surprised it took so long for one of these threads to pop up. I really enjoy reading this every week and the drawings are as good as exist today.
Yes it has a lot of the tropes of similar manga/hwa, but it does them above average imo. The fighting is also very good.
It is crazy, and sometimes hard to accept, just how fucking durable the main character is though. Legendary doesn't even begin to describe it lol.

The character design and art, in The Breaker and Tower Of God, highlight the reason I like manwha over manga stylistically.

Just finished the breaker yesterday after a friend recommended it on Sunday, (sleep is for the weak right? >_>) but oddly, I got 4 chapters into this one and just felt bored. Does it improve significantly?
