I think in many Asian cultures, older woman are generally referred to as Aunts, irrespective of whether they are related to you or not. I know this from first hand experience in India and other sub-continental countries(Bangladesh, Sri Lanka etc.). I'm not so sure about Korea, but I would wager that it is a common practice there as well. Edit: If you have watched older Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies (which are dubbed), you can notice this as well, so it happens in China as well AFAIK. | ||
