UPDATE:
As a result of the leveling issues that several players experienced shortly after beta patch 2.0.3 was released, we have decided to lower the leveling requirement for the Feat of Strength and portraits. For each faction you manage to raise to level 5, you'll receive an exclusive character portrait specific to that race when Heart of the Swarm is released on March 12, 2013. Please note that even though these rewards are still tied to level 30 in the beta, each faction reward will be assigned to your permanent account when Swarm is released if you reach level 5, in the beta, with that faction. Once again, thank you all for thoroughly testing the leveling system during this phase of the beta. We sincerely apologize to everyone who encountered these leveling bugs and are extremely sorry to hear that so many of you were reverted back several levels as a result of yesterday’s change. We appreciate your patience and hope to see you all on the ladder soon. -Aldrexus http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/7788739133?page=6#104
Now that those of you with Heart of the Swarm beta access have had some time to sink your teeth into the new features that arrived with Beta Patch 2.0.3, we kindly request your assistance in testing the leveling system. To honor your hard work and achievements during this time, we decided to create a few new rewards that you can earn through the leveling system. For each faction you manage to raise to level 30, you'll receive an exclusive character portrait specific to that race. If you'd like to unlock all three new portraits, you'll face the daunting task of reaching the maximum level with each race, for a total character level of 90. Here’s a look at what's up for grabs: Though some of these units are no longer with us, we felt each was representative of the beta experience in its own right, and that these portraits could be a fun way to show off your dedication as a Heart of the Swarm Beta tester. Once you’ve met the experience requirements detailed above, the level-30 portraits you’ve earned and a Feat of Strength achievement will transfer over to your permanent account when Heart of the Swarm is released on March 12, 2013. So get logged in, start up a game, and earn those rewards! Thank you for thoroughly testing the leveling system during this phase of the beta, and continuing to provide your constructive feedback for Heart of the Swarm. If you'd like to participate in the beta, you can gain access by pre-purchasing the game digitally on Battle.net.

Play an 8 player map. Set 4 v 4 (3 computers on your side, 4 on the opponent).
Play the game on a big map like Vigilance or something like Megaton (though it depends on which difficulty you pick, I recommend at least Hard because below hard, the computer builds really slowly).
(On the higher difficulties, computers build really fast.)
Anyway, build stuff. At 5 minute mark, request resources from computers (they'll give it to you once they receive it). (Don't overdo this though, because if you do it too much, the computer won't have anything to build for themselves.)
With extra resources, you can mass units at 5 minute mark.
Also since it's a 4v4, more units on the field = more exp you gain by destroying units.
Finally, take note that after a certain point (I'm not sure if it's based on time or based on exp gain), all exp gain will be reduced by 77%.
(Exp gain is based on total resources the unit cost. A Thor is 300/200, which grants 500 exp. Supply depot is 100, which grants 100 exp. The same case for destroying units.)
On January 27 2013 16:08 HoriZoNXI wrote: [On 77% XP reduction limit] Maybe it's 50k? I'll try experimenting and instantly leaving when the exp reduction comes in
Edit: If it's experience based (which it most likely is) then it's definitely 50k exp. I can get 50k per 20 minutes on average with Protoss

On January 27 2013 20:50 Ch3rry wrote: Here is my idea for farming:
Find a friend (for bonus exp) and play on some map where u can get 4 bases both. Spam workers at the begining, then make mass AA defence (spores, cannons, turrets) in two different spots (one for each player). Next set rally point for air units that do not attack ground to enemy's AA spot (corruptors, vipers, overlords, vikings, medivacs, ravens, phoenix, warp prism, oracles).
This way both of you will get exp for building army and also for killing enemy units. Give up after 25-30 mins for max eficiency.
EDIT: I created group "Call to Action", so everyone who wants to try get some fast exp points, please join!
EDIT2: Looks like there is no friend bonus or its not always working when playing with a friend in a team.

I'll be trying to go for these. Theres still alot of time left ^^

Hope those portraits with stars and honor wreaths are placeholders. They're so ugly now. I want normal arts on portraits!

Never got a beta key oh well that's a great way to get people playing more so I gotta say blizzard is at least thinking well.
|
As I've said on the B.net forums, this is completely outrageous and unfair.
|
I didn't know about these new portraits, i got the Warhound. How? I simply was at the right level to begin with, i enjoy playing HOTS and i've played plenty of it.

outrageous is a big word everyone who pre-orders gets beta access. This might give me an incentive to play the other two races... but probably not enough Pretty cool tho.

Rofl what? If you pre order the game, which I mean you'll have to pay the same price for anyway.. just put $5 down?, you can get into beta. Moreover, getting level 30 takes no time at all... Your complaint is honestly just sad. 'outrageous and unfair' they'd give us something free if you're helping them test the game!!! What do you want ...

People that have leveled each race to 30 and thereby helped blizzard with beta testing recieves a small reward for it? Seems fair to me.

What do you want ... Not everyone who has preordered gets in. For example see this comment by NoahSon. Even if anyone can get into the beta, it still doesn't excuse it. Because it doesn't explain why Blizzard should now be giving in game rewards through a beta, when they haven't done so in all their betas from 1995-2011, they haven't done so in the latest MoP beta since it's not fair to those who aren't in the beta for whatever reason. What about future players?
Yes, outrageous and unfair that they'll give players something, not really free, exclusively to beta players while excluding players not in the beta, and breaking the usual precedence that beta and live are completely separate.
What do I want? For Blizzard to not give out these portraits on live account.
Blizzard should try $10 Amazon vouchers for the first 100 players to reach level 90.

It's a portrait from a basically open beta. It's far from 'outrageous'.

Do i need to get all lvl 30 to get them after release or do i just need to lvl one race to 30 ? Because im already lvl 29 protoss it didnt reset for me.

Because it doesn't explain why Blizzard should now be giving in game rewards through a beta, when they haven't done so in all their betas from 1955-2011, they haven't done so in the latest MoP beta since it's not fair to those who aren't in the beta for whatever reason. What about future players? Yes, outrageous and unfair that they'll give players something, not really free, exclusively to beta players while excluding players not in the beta, and breaking the usual precedence that beta and live are completely separate. I think you're confused. First off, 1955? What world are you living in? haha Second off, your whole argument is based on what people are or are not entitled to whether it be free or not. I'll let you in on a secret, whether it is or is not unfair doesn't matter. Why? Because you are not the developer and thus have no final impact on their bottom line. If they decide that to increase profits/beta participation they will offer a digital item at no cost to themselves, other than the one time coding, then they can do so. If you don't get the item: Tough luck, go complain somewhere else than a public forum. If you want beta and you preordered just order from somewhere else, get a code, and cancel - these are digital items they have an unlimited number of. You've already paid so you should have a code after the announcement on the 22nd or whatever. You can also contact Gamestop - they sent me FOUR for FREE on request.
Moreover, if you've ever looked at console games almost all have started to rely on DLC content, or preorder content. The console market place made a drastic shift towards this around the time of Xbox 360 PS3 etc. It wasn't always like that, but that's what the game developers have decided and that's how it is. Just because they didn't do it before does not mean they have to oblige by your "fair" means of marketing. Really, you're just taking your subjective matter as "objective" unfairness. Is it fair for you to limit their profits? To limit their marketing team? To limit the growth of e-sports by getting more "stuff" out to people at no charge if it means they'll be more inclined to play? Your one dimensional complaining is sad.
Bottom line, either take what they give you or contact their support with an issue - However, don't expect it to be changed. If that's not satisfactory don't buy their product. No one is going to give you money for leveling up, don't be a petty person. Sorry.

They give portraits to people who purchased their blizzcon premium ticket shit too. It's not really unprecedented. You are overstating the implications of this a bit. You don't get the warhound or caduceus reactor healing upgrade. Just a few achievement points and a couple portraits.

A fringe benefit of the leveling system, in addition to attracting casual players, is measuring activity of beta testers. If you reach level 30 during the beta, then you're probably actively engaging in beta testing (i.e. playing ladder). Blizzard rewards those who actively engage in beta testing. Why? Because beta testers help give feedback to Blizzard on how well-polished the game is so far (duh).
Did you fully read and understand what Blizzard said in their announcement?
Though some of these units are no longer with us, we felt each was representative of the beta experience in its own right, and that these portraits could be a fun way would be a fun way to show off your dedication as a Heart of the Swarm Beta tester. Plenty of new games nowadays are rewarding alpha/beta testers and really early pre-purchases with "Founders" titles. This is potentially Blizzard's answer to the Founders titles of other games. Also, right before WoL was released, there were complaints that they players should be rewarded for being beta testers (as if playing a game 6 months before its release wasn't good enough); These portraits also cater to those people.
Take a second and think about it before whining about "outrageous and unfair" treatment.

I have a strange issue:
After a game, I am zerg level 11. On the overview, I am level 15 but with a negative XP. Is someone else having a similar issue?

I feel compelled to do this now, but damn those are ugly portraits.
