Sorry to just jump in, but I've been reading for the last few weeks and decided to try it out.. Toss player, and Im just getting mind ****d by the layout of this. Is Tab supposed to be the key for making a primary building? It says "O" but no matter how many times I mash the key it doesn't do anything. Even pressing it in variation with every other key -_-
Now, chances are I'm pretty retarded and the answer is right infront of my face.. any uh.. insite? lol

If that key isn't the only one that is messed up at that point, then revise from the data document. Click "Protoss Data" at the bottom.

"The choice is yours, and yours alone."
As far as why, it is very difficult for me to explain, as doing so is so interwoven with everything else in the development process that I'd pretty much have to re-write the OP to help everyone fully understand the "Why?" question. We will be doing that, along with offering a lot more videos asap. I'll do the "How to use the spreadsheet" one first I think.
@GrassEater Yes, you do not need a different version for HotS, the standard version should work fine. We are having a couple of issues with the beta right now, so if something feels off, feel free to customize until we can get to fixing it (such as the nexus now having and attack ability) I have an L now that I downloaded the Medium Layout PRM or PRMM, but using the Small layout with PRM or PRMM there is no L control group. It is why I said it was confusing trying to use spread sheet. Go download the Small layout for PRM you will see what I mean. It is ok now, I am using the medium layout and it seems to be accurate.
PR[M] PR[M]M the M in brackets mean Medium the small version is called PRS or PRSM (for right handed toss)

just discovered this today, haven't tried it yet but i got one question, can you really control that many buttons with the pinky? i was lying my hands on the keyboard as shown in the picture but as i said that seems like too much responsibility aimed on the pinky compared to others (in a way more developed fingers).

Hi, I am using DarkGrid, but have been thinking about switching to TheCore TRM 0.5. My main race is Terran and I like to use 4 different control-groups for switching between CC, Rax, Fac and Port. I was wondering how much I would benefit from the switch although the production-hotkeys are clearly optimized for 2 macro control-groups.
Furthermore which hotkeys would you suggest to use for the 4 production buildings? With DarkGrid I am using Tab 2 3 4. A similar orientation seems impossible, without breaking the suggested finger assignments. Does this mean I should use O P L ; und only use index and middle finger?
This was probably asked before. It is quite irritating that control-groups are numbered from right to left. Is there any particular reason for this? example: P being control-group 6 O being control group 7

There is no good reason, it is just the way it turns out after mapping from the left-handed layouts (W is 6, E is 7) to the right-handed layouts, which flips left and right. The seed layouts for TheCore are the left-handed, medium-sized layouts. The other 44 layouts are generated by remapping those layouts.

You will definitely benefit from using TheCore even if you use 4 macro control groups. TheCore has the thumb on the next subgroup button as well as all of the modifiers so the starting potential from TheCore's homekey position vs Dargrid is enough benefit to make the switch. (there are more "fast keys" next to JIOP than QWEF for the right hand.
I would definitely suggest PO;L for macro if you go for 4 macro CGs, good move. I don't know what you mean by "index and middle finger for 'tabbing'" Can you clarify what you mean?
As for the order of the CGs each person has their own preference as to how they want their CGs to look at the bottom of the screen. Feel free to rearrange

The pinky being the overall weakest finger is a misconception.
The pinky has the most potential out of the fingers for strength and dexterity. Most people don't use their pinky very often, meaning that the other fingers, especially the index finger and the thumb, are usually the most practiced. After enough games your pinky will be used to it.

Thanks for the fast answers.
I don't know what you mean by "index and middle finger for 'tabbing'" Can you clarify what you mean?
Sorry that was badly worded, I’ll edit it. This was referring to the pictures in the main post which suggest:
O and L middle finger P and ; index finger
Whereas before with DarkGrid I used: Tab pinky 2 ring finger 3 middle finger 4 index finger

ooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......
Gotcha, that makes sense. "Tabbing" is a weighted word in the world of hotkey design.

I've just got my HotS-Beta-Key and had to edit my PRM Layout (German Keyboard) to use the Oracle, MSC and Tempest. If someone has got the same problem, here is what I added at the end oft the hotkeys-Texfile.

Explanation: Apostrophe = ä = " (I prefer using ä over Comma) This should be helpful for some people, but I can explain why TheCore hasn't been updated to the last patch of the beta yet. Basically, b/c you can now cast the photon overcharge ability on a nexus, chronoboost and attack overlap for the nexus. We're trying to figure out the best way to deal with this.

The Photon overcharge ability is like a planetary fortress. In my case I switched Chronoboost (now on i) and Probe (now on j). Now I can still building probes and using the Cannon with RightClick (but not own units), so the attack overlap is not that bad for me.

This is fine, but from TheCore design perspective, if we change probe to be on j, then we should move scv and drone to j as well. The other issue is that overlapping commands like this remove the user-friendliness aspect of TheCore, as if you try editing your layout in the in-game Hotkeys editor, it will unbind the overlapping commands as soon as you make any change.
My idea is to move Chronoboost to K, and move mother ship core to M.

Chrono on K would mean that the ring finger would build Probes and use Chrono. Not good for when you want to do them consecutively.
H might be the best available key because it feels very smooth after building a Probe (PIH). It would sacrifice its synergy with Mothership Core, but Probes are clearly built more often. Then K is available for Mothership Core, making it fit fine as well (PKH).
PKH might take some getting used to, but at least it's on different fingers.

I believe 'M' is supposed to be an easier key to hit than 'H', though. Why not chrono on 'M'?

I found a "bug" in the current hots verision for protoss. I kill my buildings when i try to chronoboost them if the nexus have purify. I like having chrono on j, but this conflict with the attack command is not optimal when you are under pressure.
Okey i did not read posts b4 that discussed this.

I was told that this did not work! Can you please reconfirm that the only functionality you lose as a result of this setup is to not be able to kill your own units with a nexus?
