1. The top 8 players (i.e. player who make the quarter finals) from the previous season of Code S get immediately qualified for Code S next season. In 2012 season 5 that means Rain, HerO, Taeja, Mvp, MarineKing, Life, Symbol, and Leenock are all already qualified.
2. Next, the 12 players who win their match in Code A Ro24 qualify for Code S next season. So this means that these guys qualified last week: Vampire, Squirtle, Creator, sOs, Bbyong, Maru, Polt, Bogus, GuMiho, Curious, RorO, Sniper.
3. All of the Code A players who didn't get eliminated in the Ro48 but didn't win in the Ro24 get to compete in the Up&Downs, which is what is happening this week. If you get top 2 in your group, you qualify for Code S. So Hack and HyuN have already qualified, 8 more spots are up for grabs.
4. Lastly, there are some automatic seeds for foreign players who do well in other tournaments. For example, MaNa qualified for Code S by winning at Dreamhack. I don't know who/if anyone will be doing that this season but hopefully. I know Stephano basically has an open invitatin to Code S if he wants it but he says the format doesn't suit him.
Hope that clears it up. Actually, for #4, the seed is not exclusive to foreign players. Koreans that are not in Code S who did well in foreigner events can also get this seed (Polt, Violet). Problem is there hasn't been a major tournament to seed players from this season, highly unlikely they'll seed Nerchio since DH Bucharest was very low-profile. I'll guess they'll take pity on Nestea and throw him a seed I want to say Stephano also but I'm unsure i think yonghwa and stephano, maybe

MMA walked into the GSL tonight wearing his slayers jacket like a prisoner, counting the days until he is released from his contract. Someone sympathizing with the "slave contract" quote?
So I guess MMA is indeed still on SlayerS (despite some sources claiming otherwise) while CranK is not because he was never given a(n apparently salary-less) contract.
Thanks for the writeup, let's see who will make it through to Code S on Day 2.

Same with Nerchio, with all the events he has planned (WCS China, Dreamhack, IPL). And Nerchio is unlikely to compete in the foreseeable future.
Ideally they should take the winner of the MLG Dallas but it happens after GSL starts.. Seriously check out the lineup! http://www.majorleaguegaming.com/news/starcraft-ii-group-play-at-the-fall-championship-2/

Fight on Genius. Fight on DRG.

DRG and genius to move on together or fail together, they are the perfect pair, aside from that, i hope bomber makes it but meh with the TL writer curse and the fact that he is so inconsistent i wouldnt count on it happening

Yeah Nerchio and Stephano have already rejected a few code S invites, they wont come. Scarlett is certainly plausible, however she has a bit of a history with running away from tournaments, which includes foreign ones let alone Korean ones. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if 2 KeSPA players are invited this season, or at a bare minimum, 1 KeSPA + 1 foreigner.

they should seed yonghwa because hes a beast

Doooongraegu, let's do this! Get right back to Code-S and dominate season 5!

I'm rooting for DRG and Bomber to get out, and as has been written, they are the most likely to make it out of the group. DRG has kind of returning slowly to his old pre MC defeat form, but he isn't there quite yet, I hope this Up & Down marks his return to prime form.
I wish however people would stop giving aLive so much credit, I've followed him for about a year now and more and more I'm starting to believe that his IPL4 run and GSL RO4 was a fluke. To be frank his semi in the GSL seems like partial luck of him getting groups where he defeated some players that where clearly weaker then him at least at that point in time, and then going up against MMA who was starting to slump. Don't get me wrong, he is good, but he is very, very inconsistent, maybe even more so then Bomber. And he definitely isn't as good as people make him, I wish a re-evaluation of his skill level was done.

DRG and Bomber :D fighting!!!

I watched the games in a background type of mode so I didn't really notice all the dilemma that led to the final conclusion.
Thanks Stuchiu, for the very detailed report.
