Five Reasons why anybody shouldn’t have an one-sided opinion on this “topic”:
1. Stephano’s English: He wrote “I have abused of a child”, sounds to me like “I got abused by a child”. Do you know French? “to get abused by” = “avoir violée” (*note in the end of the text).. but the translation of “avoir” is “to have”. So how can anybody know what he wanted to say?
2. It’s just chat. First it’s just a screenshot with a few lines of a chat, where is the context? And second: anybody knows how it should sound, you don’t know his accent, his facial expression etc. How can you know it was just a stupid use of the word “abuse”? Or maybe he wanted to say that she was so sexy and adult ( Did you ever hear from the rhetorical use of language like hyperbole??) Some of you maybe take it too literal?!
3. It’s a conversation between two friends who are young themselves! (under 20!) Maybe he just wanted to be cool and tell a close friend that he had sex?
4. Supposed to it is right that he had sex with a 14 year old girl: What do you know about her? In which century are you living? Did you ever see 14 year old nowadays girls? Some are really bodily young, okay,... but there are also girls which seem to have skipped puberty and act like 38 year old prostitutes with midlife crises. So if she is precocious there is also no morale reason to adjudge him. P
5. With this few information it isn’t possible to play the court of law here. A quick look up in the German (next to France ) law [ http://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/englisch_stgb/englisch_stgb.html#p1578 ] doesn’t show me any criminal action going on when a 19 year old boy has sex with a 14 year old girl, and accordingly there is not even a “abuse of juveniles” ?! Maybe you can find something for me?
To the reaction of Evil Geniuses:
If they didn’t react on it, there wouldn’t be this post on teamliquid.net, the most popular Starcraft-website in the world, and there wouldn’t be so much attention about this. It’s stupid to write that the Team is distancing from the Stephano comments, I never ever would have connected Team EG with these comments if I were watching the BlinG-Stream live! Are you seriously think this damages sponsors of EG? Will you never buy sponsor products again (if you did it before)? OH MY F*CKING GOD! ROFL! … But maybe so many j*rks like some of you are talked so much shitty prejudices that they were forced to fake an perfect English stuck-up excuse written by a self-proclaimed boulevard expert.
Btw: I’m a 26 year old girl, whether a fan of Stephano neighter of EG. (but huge fan of Starcraft-Community and the game himself! <3) I don’t care what a progamer wrote on private chat, but I care about stupid prejudiced reaction on something a puberity boy said to a good friend, just because most of you are f*cking conservatives and didn’t even think about his words longer than your stupid posts took time.
Yes – sadly too much blabla—that’s how girls are.
EDIT: * Thanks to Husnan who corrected my wrong translation: "to get abused by" means "avoir été violé par" (having been raped), not "avoir violé" (having raped).

Great post, agreed 100%

These guys have got to grow the fuck up.
No one should ever joke about molesting a child. The word rape needs to get out of the community.
EG is successful because they know how to play the corporate game. They haven't won many SC2 games, but probably have the best sponsor lineup and the best balance sheet of any team.
If you want esports go big, you have to lose the childish BS and grow the fuck up.
|
I don't understand why everybody interprets that HE "abused" HER, where is that written????????????????
There isn't any joke about "MOLESTING A CHILD"
OH MY F*CKING GOD That's sad.
.. go to primary school please and learn reading your native language... ( mean people from United States )..

Soluna, you don't know French and "to get abused by" means "avoir été violé par" (having been raped), not "avoir violé" (having raped).
Either way, this is so damn ridiculous. EG overreacting big time over nothing. Damn pathetic if you ask me.
|
Sorry for the big mistake...Thanks! ... Nevertheless it confirms what I wanted to say. avoir <-> have and not get English and French aren't my native languages...

The lesson that should be learnt is: Don't make light of sexually abusing 14 year olds, there is no need. Develop a better sense of humour. Full support to EG on this.

... okay first of all, what he said isn't up for question, he never said that he didn't mean statutory rape, he said it was a joke not a misinterpretation, so the maybe it was an English mistake is off the table.
So, from here, I encourage anyone who works in a professional environment to go into work, find a friend, joke about statutory rape with a 14 year old with your friend, but where the rest of your coworkers will inevitably overhear you. Honestly, if you think it is the kind of joke that can be made around others, because it's just you joking with a friend, then by all means, try it, but fully expect that your boss, should he find out, will be compelled to react. It's not about what he did, it's about what the company is required to do. One cannot make those kinds of comments at a workplace, just because he works from home, doesn't mean he isn't representing his company when he has the EG and RC slapped on his name.
Look, I personally think it was a stupid joke, and nothing was meant from it. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes stupid mistakes to learn valuable lessons. He doesn't have to accept one month without pay, he can break contract, but obviously he doesn't see that as the best course of action. He made a mistake, EG dealt with it in a way they saw fit as it is necessary for them to show that such comments cannot be accepted in their work environment. There is nothing else to discuss. Agree or don't, but it has been handled internally in a way that, quite obviously, both parties found suitable and satisfactory.

Great points, but to me all these points don´t matter at all here. Let me explain why:
You simply need to be careful as a person who gets a lot of attention. It doesn´t matter if you think that people are retarded or just overreact to this kind of stuff because you can´t change that.(For example the reactions to Destiny or Stephanos comments on Blings stream.) They will act that way no matter what. So basically, don´t say stuff that might cause drama or controversial discussions and keep your image clean. It´s simply not worth the risk. And I think that any person involved in this community should know how some people react here and how much power a few emails to the sponsors can have. So you know what you get when you say/do certain things in the SC2 community which means that it´s totally in your control and your fault whether you are involved in this shit or not.
I certainly agree that people did overreact here, however as I said before, just don´t say controversial stuff or things that can cause drama and you are fine. Just keep your image 100% clean. People talk about showing personality and that koreans are boring but I personally would rather act faceless to avoid any drama. It´s just not worth the trouble.
Keep in mind, this is just my opinion. So don´t flame or hate me for that.

Those are actually absolutely awful points and considering she claims to be a 26 old girl who isn't a stephano fan and just created account for this I'm inclined to believe it's a troll.

Stephano is only 19. If White-Ra had said something like this I'd feel different, but in this case: Way to go Stephano!

Really? I think the community reacted prejudiced, EG and the sponsors get paniced, wrote these excuses, and told Stephano to SHUT UP. He is 19 young adult and just under pressure from a company he signed up with. The "excuse" is fake. I'm sure he doesn't know what the f*ck is going on.

Oh, I think he knows. He realises that he's going to have to bleach his personnality whiter than white, like all those hollywood fucks who won't ever say anything meaningful or ballsy because it might piss off the networks.
This is how everything goes when it goes mainstream. Sad.

Im saying it doesnt follow from liking an outcome to liking the source. I can hate Hitler but like his vegetarianism, I can hate reddit but like how they forced EG to react. There is no incompatibility between the two. Luckily, I might add. Id hate to think I would have to support every action a person or organisation makes just because I support some of them.
