It was writen many times before , new textures got better performance then old one , problem is somewere else.. , in streaming system or other 1.5 things , but no in textures.
Hah this is amazing. Can't edit the variables.txt without it resetting everything to defaults for my computer specs. Even after setting it to read only, it will ignore the variables.txt and run the game in default settings. So even trying steps to have Hybrid graphics does not work. This is rediculous.
i think you guys are missing something - the new patch doesn't allow combinations which could possibly lower performance. blizazrd themselves said, do not use variables.txt for editing graphic options! if you can't do it ingame through the menu, you are not supposed to do it anyway!! because as we know, many combinations cause super heavy stutter through 50% of the game.
just use the menu, if you can't put it lower then just don't. else you are asking for trouble.

Not sure what it is but I had considerably better framerates with the lowqualitytextures=0 variable

Easy enough decision I guess. WP blizz!
I'm not going to defend blizzard and the change they made as it is silly, but that being said spending not even a hundred bucks on a graphics card would make the problem go away in all likelihood. You wouldn't need a new computer.

Except there were combinations being used to help performance amongst other things.

What world do you live in where everyone has some perfectly upgradable machine? Laptops cannot be upgraded in such a way and most desktops aren't able to hold the latest and greatest in their motherboards due to pci slot stuff.
Really.. why all you people are so dumb.. i dont get it. There was some thread on TL showing WITH PROOFS , that new textures use less memory and they got better performance , if someone write that he got MORE fps , after patch 1.5 , with "old" low grapfics he simple lie. Show some proof maby ? or stfu.. Problem is in other place , and we need wait for fix from blizzard. They are working on it http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/6246945462?page=1 And they add more tracking date to 1.5.2 patch to find this issue , so calm the fuck down people and wait a bit..
We have been digging through all the data provided with this thread along with our internal testing, trying to identify the cause(s) of the performance issues that appeared with 1.5. Unfortunately we have been unable to identify an easy fix with our existing data tracking combined with your reports, hardware information, and variable data. With 1.5.2 we have added more data tracking to the actual game so we can have a clearer picture of what crept into the game with 1.5. We understand that this is not a perfect or fast solution to the performance issues but we are getting closer. Sadly, it has proved to not be as simple as “reverting code” back to the way the game was in 1.4.4.
As it appears that we have gained as much data as we can from pre-1.5.2 reports I will be locking this thread. Thank you all for being so diligent and providing this information, it has been very useful even though we have not been able to find an easy solution.

How about for those of us that think the new textures look ugly =_0 And can you cite a source* , you act like you work at blizzard....
No need to be uptight as well, this was an unexpected change and many people used the variables.txt for purposes such as the hybrid setup. /** referring to the content in the second half of your post.
