Hey Guys!
So it has been a week since I left my house to go to MLG Winter Championships. I can say that I have learned a ton about myself, my team, and the game. It was one of the best experiences I have had to date. It was a enjoyable weekend battling it out with some of the best players in the world and hanging with my new and old team members.
Day 1:
I woke up around 7:00 A.M and got ready right away. If you couldn't tell I was extremely excited. I was rocking my Area 51 Shirt I then sat at my computer watching VOD's and streams until 9:00 A.M. Since this was my first time traveling by myself, my parents dropped me off at La Guardia Airport where they wished my goodbye. Now this is were it sucked for a little bit. I arrived there around 11:30 A.M and my flight didn't leave till about 2:40 P.M. Someone told me to arrive around 2 hours before boarding time and they were horribly mistaken. I got through all the security passes within 10 minutes so I was stuck sitting there and listening to music for 3 hours . What made it all worthwhile was sitting in the plane and taking off. It was the first time I flew in about 17 years and I'm 21.
The flight was great (UNLIMITED DRINKS FTW LOL) and it was a 1 hour flight so NO JETLAG . I arrived and my phone wasn't working. THIS KILLED ME -_-. I had to get a hold of people over skype to get in touch with Luke who was the one driving. Luckily Chris was clutch and saved me, THANK YOU CHRIS! but I was at the airport 1 hour before Luke finally arrived.
We then went to the hotel which was about 15 minutes from the actual venue. When we arrived we got our room pretty easily and also saw a package with my name on it . We noticed it came from SteelSeries which made us extremely happy. We opened the box to see some of their AMAZING SIBERIA V2 Full Green Headsets! and some QCK+ Heavys . We now felt ready to take part in MLG.
We then picked up Mathew from the greyhound bus stop after about an hour of waiting because Mathew didn't give us the right time. After picking him up, we realized we were extremely hungry and tried to find a place to eat. We found a Golden Corral near us and we ate there for dinner and enjoyed it a lot. We then went back to the hotel with a full stomach where Mathew started practicing like his life depended on it
Day 2:
Today was the first day of the competition we got there at around 11:00 A.M and it was pretty fully already but they don't let anyone into the actual room till 1:30 P.M so we hung at the convention center till then. We met up with a friend of Luke's who plays for Convergence gaming and hung out with them until the doors opened. We ate and got ourselves in a competitive mindset right before the doors opened. They then opened the practice area for all the players. Luke and Sung managed to get 2 computers next to each other while Mathew and I found 2 next to each other also. We all then started practice hard as you can tell with these pictures:
Mathew getting ready!!
Sung getting ready!!
Luke getting ready!!
Me getting ready!!
The first day of the event was a decent showing for us. Luke made it to winners round 3 but sadly lost to EGLZGamer. Mathew made it past first round but lost EGPuma. Sung made it to winners round 3 and lost to GoldenLight in a very close 3 games. I lost first round to KEYDEverize 0-2 .
Day 3:
This was Saturday and we had to wake up extremely early because of how many games have to played. The games start at 10 A.M and since I lost first round, I had to play that early while others had alot of time to rest up and prepare for their matches.
I went through fairly easy opponents till Complexity Catz. We play a very long macro game where I was giving back as much as I was taking(Punishment Wise) and it looked liked I was going to win but I became over aggressive after taking two bases out and lost my army. He then counter pushed for the win . So I ended my run and lost in the losers round of 6 making it to the TOP 80 of MLG
Mathew was doing pretty well in the losers bracket then faced a former teammate Jae "Sic" and lost 0-2. Sic then went on to play Luke where Luke lost 0-2 I think. Sung played sMi_Logic in the losers round of 5 match but sadly lost.
Mathew got to the Round of 4 LB
Luke got to the Round of 5 LB
Sung got to the Round of 5 LB
I got to the Round of 6 LB
Our MLG play was over but we stayed to watch the rest of the tournament.
Before Sung left, I managed to take a picture with him.
Before the end of Saturday we managed to get food and enjoyed it thoroughly
That was the end of Saturday and we were just able to relax and learn from the other players at MLG.
Day 4
Sunday was an early day for me. I had to go early because of my flight but Luke and Mathew stayed and enjoyed the rest of MLG. I learned from Thursday that I didn't need to be at the Airport extremely early so they dropped me off only 1 hour before my flight. I just sat there in the terminal thinking about my weekend and what I could improve on. I was taking it all in.
Last thing I managed to take a picture of was my plane MID FLIGHT!. It was beautiful and just felt amazing being up that high
Basically all in all my trip was a blast, my teammates were a blast to hang with and everyone I met along the way was great!
Thanks to our sponsors SteelSeries, Killer Networks, Hurricane Host, End of Reality Game Servers, and iSgodly Webdesign. Without them I wouldn't have been able to go to MLG Winter Championships
Also thanks to my teammates Mathew, Luke, and Sung.
