(Last run, I was worshipping Chei, but using daggers (had draining and electro)... then I equipped a curse -3, -3 sword without any scrolls and died to a komodo dragon, or whatever makes you sick! Joy!) | ||

Specifically, I want to take advantage of Naga's good Stealth learning and try to stab things; is that the wrong route (I guess I should just transform into stuff and beat the shit out of people?) Do I get stab bonuses from Blade Hands? (Last run, I was worshipping Chei, but using daggers (had draining and electro)... then I equipped a curse -3, -3 sword without any scrolls and died to a komodo dragon, or whatever makes you sick! Joy!) Unarmed stabbing is really bad. You can passwall-stab and dig-stab if you want to use short blades--but then you should probably start as a Stalker since you actually get to start with those spells--or you can train stabbing (but not short blades) and carry a dagger to stab stuff, but honestly you will probably be more effective by transforming and beating up everything in forms. Forms hit really hard, and they're basically all super good except Dragon Form because Dragon Form is too hard to cast unless you're a draconian ... and additionally you'll want ice magic for Ice Form and other really good ice spells. The point of Stealth for a Transmuter is so that you can spot an enemy at max range, back up one space and prepare, and then go in already-buffed. Or if it's something you don't want to fight (mostly uniques) then you spot it at max range, drop a travel exclusion, and go away. Leveling up Stealth somewhat is rarely a bad decision if you're walking around in light armour since it lets you pick your fights better, so your aptitude isn't wasted. This is doubly true if you worship Chei since with Chei once you go in, you're not going to back out of a fight unless you blow teleportation or multiple (semi)controlled blinks. | ||

--- Won a HaHu of Nemelex. I didn't really use slings much past the early game but I picked Hu after a few failed Ar starts because they're much stronger right away. It's hilarious how buff your sling is right out of the gate since you end up one-shotting a fair number of enemies, and you could probably go Oka or Trog and really have a field day with slings if you wanted. But Nemelex is more fun so I went that route. I ended up pulling four Experience cards out of the one deck of wonders Nemelex gave me and two other randomly-generated decks. I also got three rings of slaying, with the worst being +0,+5 (too bad they're not as good as in 0.9). Other than that and having a lot of potions of cure mutation available my finds were pretty average. I found only one rod (Demonology, which I didn't bother using since decks of summoning are better), one scroll of acquirement (got me a rod of smiting, which is ok but not great), pretty decent jewellery and generally bad armour until late. But between Halflings having really good aptitudes and Nemelex being really good I didn't have a lot of trouble, except for an encounter with a tentacled monstrosity where I didn't know I could actually break out of constriction (oops!!). It was amusing being able to cast all my buffs and then use my crystal ball of energy to immediately recover the ~15 MP I just spent. Also amusing that I found an amulet of the gourmand with Hunger+. http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/crate/morgue-crate-20111225-054307.txt | ||

http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/crate/morgue-crate-20111226-042003.txt The only trouble spots were me doing silly things, since I got to 27 stealth really early thanks to Spriggans' absurd aptitude plus Ash skill boost, which let me pick my fights for the remainder of the game. This was a pretty neat game for me since I got to try out some spells that were new to me, as well as my first Ashenzari game. I'd rarely picked up Passwall or Dig before, rarely used Projected Noise, and had never learned Darkness or the new Metabolic Englaciation. All of them worked out quite nicely. Passwall and Dig led to the majority of my stabs until I picked up Invisibility, and I also got the ice fiend ice cave but still got all the loot by digging around the outside and avoiding all the enemies altogether (thanks to Ash scrying and enemy/item detection so I could actually know where I was going). Projected Noise got me to the loot in the Elf:5 vault while only having to take out a few Annihilators and Sorcerers, which were easy enough to kill--I managed to draw the rest of the elves far enough away to sneak past (with more patience I probably could've used it better in Zot:5 too). Darkness was pretty decent in that it just means you can sneak past stuff better, but I'm not sure I'd normally learn it even on a stealth character. Metabolic Englaciation apparently is a slow on everything not-cold-resistant in your LOS now, which partially (?) bypasses monster MR, so it let me kill Orb Guardians without needing Haste, though that wasn't a big deal. Pretty nice spell though for a 3-rune win. Most of the game was running around with autoexplore, setting an exclusion on everything I saw, and then using Dig/Passwall to stab everything. Lots of fun. Ash is a really strong god in the midgame since you get massive skill level boosts and the scrying is ridiculously effective on stabby types. | ||

Shot down by my own orc in one of my more promising games. Some stupid popcorn monster like a rat or something turned a corner and my well groomed sorcerer flipped the fuck out and started nuking the entire room. Fuck that. Makes me want to try something other than HOPr... next mission: HEWz | ||

Since you're not entirely based around weapons as a necromancer, you could probably get away with putting it on, but its low enchantment will be problematic later on unless you're ready to dump scrolls in it. | ||

I was at a temple and I was going to click on an altar or some shit... anyway, I press shift or ctrl and suddenly my character starts searching for like a million turns and I almost starve to death. I then go searching for food on a level that is way too hard and end up getting killed. | ||

Im stuck in D7 with my DEWz xl8, D8 is full of wargs and elephant packs, and all stairs are fairly close... Any advice? My strategy for the wargs was to surround them with imps and hope for the best.. Even explored everything? on the prior levels, including Grinder, Sigmund, Yiuf.. I got a wand of polymorph, and the standard spellbook... HELP :D | ||

Elephants are not something to be fucked with, forget about the level until you cleared the first 4 floors of the lair then go back there and farm the exp. Keep in mind that wargs are magic resistant and are as fast as hasted(x1.5) or even faster(x2.0), depending on your version. | ||

I got shot there by some unique sorc with teal armor around level 15 and couldn't find the exit. I ran around for a little while but kept getting chased by scary things. I was able to just dance around for a bit, but then a pack of speedy hellhounds came at me casting fireball. I hasted myself and ran away, only to run straight into some sort of steamcloud breathing dragon. I had no chance. What should I do next time? Keep randomly searching for the exit and hope I dont die? Is there no better way to handle that? | ||
