EVENT UPDATED!!
The Cyber Sports Network is proud to announce a tournament like no other, with their first StarCraft II / QuakeLive Free For All Cup.
16 SC2 players will play in a Free For All (Deathmatch) Tournament, where the top 4 players after 2 rounds of Deathmatch will compete in a StarCraft II single elimination bracket to decide the first SC2/QL Champion. See full details below or at the CSN link provided.
Monday, January 2nd @ 7 PM EST
Registration Now Open!
StarCraft II is currently the largest and most lucrative esports game in the world and the Quake series is the reason for the existence of esports. These two games have changed how the community and industry sees esports and this tournament will bring the games together for the first time. This tournament is for those StarCraft II players that have recently showed an interest in QuakeLive and who have expressed an appreciation for the skill set involved.
QuakeLive is a free (in browser) First Person Shooter that requires precise mouse control and a high APM (Action Per Minute). StarCraft players know these requirements well and many of them have mastered the skills of managing a map filled with items and troops that must be given precise instructions to destroy an opponent.

Tournament Overview:
Registration open to any SC2 player that is new to QuakeLive or of Amatuer status 16 Players allowed Free For All - 8 players per server will compete for the highest 'Frag' (kills) Total to determine advancing players 2 Maps per round (scores added together from each map to determine winners) 2 Rounds for the bracket Top 4 players advance to a single elimination StarCraft II bracket. (Best of 3 for all matches)
Players will use the Cyber Sports Network Events page to register for the event. Once the 'Check In' process has been completed, on the day of the event, administrators will divide the players into groups and post those groups, the map choices and a link to the server.
Players will play a Deathmatch (FFA) round of 2 maps. Map scores will be added together to determine the top 4 players that will advance to the next round.
Once the field of players has been narrowed down to 8 players, a final round of 2 maps will be played and frags tallied to determine the four (4) players that will compete in the StarCraft II portion of the event.
The Cyber Sports Network would like to thank players from both games in their support of our events, coverage and community involvement. CSN believes in creating relationships that transcend genres and building esports from the base...

This sounds like a great idea - is it going to be US only though?
|
Definitely watching this. As far as a date though, it only says it's on a Monday in January at 7. Is the actual date still to be determined?
<3 SC2 <3 QL

ahh.. I will update the OP.. it should be January 2nd,2012. We figure that most people will be home that day before they head back to work and class.
This event is open to EURO or NA players. The servers will be on NYC or Chicago QuakeLive servers. We will try to put all EURO players on the NYC Servers.
Thanks for the support.. I too, think this will be a blast to see! Wish I had any SC2 skills.. I would join it myself
|
OP is updated. I know this may be a hard sell cause players are aprehensive to get started with it.. but for anyone that takes the 10 minutes it takes to get Quakelive running on your machine.. this could be a great event!
I have tweeted it to DJWheat and 2GD to see if we can get some of their SC2 and QL minions signed up!
|
Haha, this is an awesome idea. I'd be playing if there was a seperate EU event. Best of luck to you ^^
|
Dam I would love to play in that xD
I never really played QuakeLive (just a little in the beta) but played those kind of shooter since like +10years ( TFC :D)
will try to sign up
|
FaCE.. this is for you then bro. Load up QuakeLive this week.. while things are slow in the eSports world and check it out. I think what I will do is have a Deathmatch server up every night.. labeled StarCraft II FFA Server or something.. and ill post when I have the server up and am running around in it.. and others can join to get tips and just play together! This will prepare you all for the big event!
|
Oh this should be interesting, has me thinking about QuakeCon again :D.
|
How do you quantify amateur in QL?
|
|
Awesome idea, registering... A map list would be useful!
|
God I want in on this so bad, QuakeLive (Q3) is an absolutely fantastic game, my adrenaline has never been so high then when I'm playing a game of QuakeLive against an equal opponent. Living in Australia, all I can do is watch from afar and support the idea, CSN fighting! Although I am abit sad it's a QL FFA and not a 1v1 bracket
|
|
We considered 1v1 and I am sure at some point we will do that..but right now.. we just need to get peeps playing the game.. and fragging things.. and nothing better then a cess of spam to do that! It should be a blast to watch.
we will have a map list up tomorrow.. and ill make sure to update this post with the list.
Count on CampGrounds to be on the list for sure though.. its not Quake if you dont have that map!
I think in this case.. to determine AM's.. we are just looking for guys that are SC2 players first.. and want to try or have tried in the past to play some Quake. Technically, I would still be considered an AM in Quake.. as I can't win shit.. but if most of these players are my skill or less... then I would say that's pretty AM.
We shall see.. lets get some more sign ups and make this thing happen!

This is awesome as i love both games. I used to play a little ql and i been playing sc2 as a main game(and planning on getting good). Since i played ql before can i enter?
|
NVM while i played a little ql, i played A LOT of q3 :D
|
Is it on NA or EU server? Guess NA given the starting time.
oh dangerously close to 1000 posts, need to be careful now
|
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
My two most beloved games, and I'm gone skiing :-(((
|
John forgot to mention one thing. id Software was kind enough to donate some premium tokens for the winners of this. Sign up and have fun! I will post the map list soon and if anyone would like a server to practice on add me as a friend in qlive "xterm" and I will be more than happy to put up a server for you.
