Wait wtf you have a lajatang of speed and you're considering switching weapons? Lajatang of speed is super good, way better than a falchion of speed. You shouldn't even bother picking up other weapons at this point since they're not going to be better than what you're using.
200 hp and 31 EV is definitely pretty durable, definitely durable enough to win with.
edit: As far as resists go, one level of resistance is 50% damage, and I think 2 is 30% damage (maybe 20%). You don't need more than one level of resistance against anything in a three-rune win, though rF++ against Orbs of Fire is great. But other than Orbs of Fire as long as you're not fighting stuff with serious elemental attacks without any resistance at all you're fine.

Thanks for making this thread, I would never have known about this game or genre. I'm so bored with how easy and/or shallow all my games are these days, looks like this one will provide some challenging entertainment. Just finished the tutorial and am going to start my first actual character/game. Sounds like Kobold Beserker is an easy character for a first try. Cheers!

Wow, OK, there's a very good chance I'm going to win this game. I steamrolled shoals and vault and have cleared the dungeon all the way to Zot. I'm starting elves now because I STILL don't have a source of rElec, though I've been lvl 27 for at least an hour now (drawing 10+ experience cards will do that). I can kill anything in melee, or with spells, or summons, and even if I got caught out I have so many ways to escape or heal... it's crazy.

I felt this run was pretty lucky tbh, I'd never even gotten a rune before I made this char. I 'acquired' an early lajatang of speed, then found an amulet of faith, and I was swimming in nemelex decks for the rest of the game. swiftness and blink made the ascension run easy peasy. Also, deflect missiles is OP.
also noteworthy, this game was played entirely on my phone, through connectbot

Grats Myopia! I've gotten a single rune and then died stupidly at least twice, maybe thrice now...
|
Congrats.
Nemelex feels overpowered to me even without an amulet of faith, and even moreso if you do get one. Of course, in Crawl terms, that means you're only "quite likely" to die instead of "almost certain".
|
Yeah, Nem is insane. The sheer power and flexibility you get just by training evocations, when mages have to pump spellcasting + several other magical schools + invocations if their god requires it. Then you've got skills that casters can only dream of: experience cards, helix for controlling mutations, trowel generating free portals to bazaars/baileys/labyrinths, etc. Faith ups the silliness factor, and makes your log history look like this
63722 | Vault: 7 | Received a gift from Nemelex Xobeh 64087 | Vault: 7 | Received a gift from Nemelex Xobeh 64656 | Vault: 7 | Received a gift from Nemelex Xobeh 65222 | Vault: 8 | Received a gift from Nemelex Xobeh 65346 | Vault: 8 | Received a gift from Nemelex Xobeh
I was leaving these things on the ground, or heading to some remote corner and burning through them for kicks.

The Knowledge Bots say I can transmute arrows into snakes, but I cannot figure out how. So far, the only snakes I've been able to make are from clubs or something I can equip.
Any help? I feel like I'm asking pre-bronze league questions :'(

Any help? I feel like I'm asking pre-bronze league questions :'( You need to equip arrows. On tiles you ctrl+click them, on ascii the hotkey is either W or w. One of them is wear the other one is wield I can never remember which one is which.
|
^which is stupid micro management IMO, you should just be able to target the arrows/club in your inventory. I don't like the spell at all, and always go straight for spider form with my transmuters.
|
Thanks man. I'm a noob and play tiles (!). I tried shift-clicking them but that just throws them on the ground, hah.
I am so bad at this game... I have died, literally, like 40x (i play on 2 different comps), and only ever made it to level 9. To make it worse, I died to a bunch of orcs I went to the bottom of the Orc mines (I think?) and there was an entire room full of them o.O

actually, if you use poisoned arrows for this spell, you get poison snakes that pwn things real good.

It's significantly more dangerous than the dungeon or Lair, and the enemies don't give much experience either. High risk, low reward.

Did close to a haf-dozen attempts last night, my highest character made it to lvl 10 before getting trampled by an elephant which I think was summoned by a named mage (can't remember the name). Tried wands of polymorph other, paralysis, and a fear scroll, but that was a determined pakiderm TT. :D
A question I have is, on that game I found the sewers, but think I screwed up. I cleared the first (?) level, but went back up through the portal next to where I entered and then the grate was gone and couldn't get back in. Are there more levels and should I have taken a different portal (I'm assuming yes)?
|
The sewers are a Portal Vault. They're like a bonus little level you get. You can only enter the entrance portal once, so once you leave it you can never go back. They're always handmade, they always contain monsters, they always contain loot. Usually there is an exit portal inside the vault. It does the same as leaving the way you came, but when you see it, you know you've probably seen it all. If you can't find the loot in one of these, search for secret doors.
There are loads of types of these. Some of them will have their entrance disappear if you delay going in long enough.
|
Ok thanks, felt like I was missing something, as it was a small level with just some rats and didn't seem like much loot. There were many portals down there so I was afraid I missed something or other levels.

lol, wtf Xom.
Was playing a Merfolk Chaos Knight. Was around level 10 on Lair:1
I see an Agate. I walk over to it. Xom turns it into an Azure Jelly when I'm standing right next to it, and it one-shots me.
