Seven games later, I'm just about ready to punch both of my monitors and throw my keyboard out the window. Good god, how could I have gotten so bad so quickly?! I just don't understand. I still read the forums, I try to stay up to date on strategies, but man.
Although, for some reason, out of my seven games, I played 5 ZvPs and 2 ZvZs. I used to run into ZvTs all the time and now, not so much!
A quick breakdown would be:
1) ZvZs:
a) I won my first ZvZ with a pretty straightforward attack. I put down a hatch, saw no expo, scouted his base with a second ovie and saw a roach warren. I went sling/roach and only showed lings where his ovie could see and hid my roaches in a corner of my base. When I saw him move out with an all roach army, I made roaches, waited, crushed his pure roach army with sling/roaches and then finished him off with a counter attack.
b) I lost my second ZvZ because I was dumb. I went hatch first, saw him go hatch first and decided to put on some early ling/roach pressure. He scouts my army as they pop out so he starts on ling/roach production. I manage to take out his smaller army and reinforce with my hatch before his hatch finishes and forces a cancel. I should have just waited for reinforcements to arrive instead of just streaming them in a few at a time but I figured I was ahead so I backed off after taking out his expo and started to macro up. I kept an ovie near his expo and saw that he didn't put one down. I sent some lings to scout the other expos and mains just in case he expanded elsewhere but didn't see anything. In the meantime, I was droning. By the time I figured out he didn't have a second expo, I started to crank out roaches again while I sacced an ovie into his base. Saw he went lair and mass roaches but couldn't get enough roaches out in time to counter him as he went for fast lair + roach speed. Even though I was ahead in drone count, I had to pull drones to help defend. Ended up losing both of my queens + a chunk of drones. His second wave of roaches killed more of my drones and I just ended up losing from there. I should have just started some spines instead of droning so hard when I didn't see him go for an expo. I should have sacced the ovie earlier to see what he was doing and I should have expected a roach all-in. Probably should have transitioned into mutas faster too.
2) ZvPs: Basically, I lost almost of my ZvPs because I was dumb and just macro'd too hard. I would be on 5 base to a Protoss' 3 base, have a maxed army, attack, trade armies (but wouldn't be able to snipe his colossi) and then lose because I couldn't remax before his army swept through my base. I noticed my three biggest errors: a) not enough scouting - sometimes, they would go 1-star for 3 phoenixes and a VR to force me to go hydras and then they switch to colossi; b) maxing on t1/t1.5 army - I make the mistake of maxing out with lings/roaches (and probably /way/ too many drones) even though I have a spire and infestor pit. I trade my ling/roach army and it just wouldn't do enough damage vs. a chargelot/stalker/colossi army; c) poor muta harass - when I'd get about 8-10 mutas out, I wasn't actively harassing with them, and so, that was gas probably better spent on corrupters or infestors intead. I did win a ZvP when I managed to go broodlord/roach/ling on 4 base vs. a 3-base protoss, so that was kinda nice. And the Protoss was even all 'ggwp!' so I felt pretty good about that.
Still, I was pretty sad over the state of affairs - clearly, I need to put in at least an hour or two of SC2 daily to keep my skills up before I go to play anything else if I don't want to end up being demoted.
