The recent Animals As Leaders blog made me realize there are probably some people here who have similar taste in music to me, so I thought I'd give this a shot. I've been trying, relatively unsuccessfully, to find some new stuff to listen to. I don't want to get hung up on genre labels, but I guess what I'm into could be broadly described as progressive metal. Here are some examples of music I've been digging recently:
So, if anyone likes any of these bands (or similar styles) please feel free to share some of your other favorites as well (even if it's an entirely different style, I'm still interested!) Thank you <3
hey you should check out my Djent thread i made few months back, has a Tonne of shit to listen to in there http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=239228 . O and im listening to the new Vildjharta right now, and my god its fucking amazing!!! anyways check that thread out, you wont be dissapointed.
well i'll post some stuff u may like cuz it seems like u like the same stuff i do. i listen to only a few bands though
Meshuggah (djent style like posted above, called math metal really)
Sevendust (this is more metal/rockish. but they are probably my favorite band...i highly enjoy every album. alpha has literally every emotion one can feel)
How about God is an Astronaut? it's not as "metallish" though, but somewhat similar to some of your songs you listed.. Anyway, you'll be the judge, sometimes a little change is good:
These guys are all over the place in terms of musical style, and the subject matter is (more than a little) cheesy, but I've still really been enjoying The Human Equation from Ayreon.

you might also like Liquid Tension Experiment (no vocals at all)
generally, just go to last.fm and put on your favorite band's radio and wait for similar artists to come up.
Cynic - Focus is such a classic.
At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul is another one.
This thread is fucking awesome. Tons of new stuff for me to check out now.
I'd also recommend Pain of Salvation. They're more melodic and less brutal than most of what's been posted so far, but they're an amazing band. I'll edit in videos later...
