I fully agree. I admire the DotA champions because they are so diverse (though looking at the skills there are lots of steroid ulties but other than that) even thought i have never played the game. A friend just merely showed some champs and i envy the diversity

yeah been feeling this way for a long time now, every new hero is like meh another boring champ with "standard" skills that work/are decent but not even remotely interesting.

The fact that Matt even exists is the bane of the LoL e-sports scene. If you can't referee your own tournament and make your own decisions you probably shouldn't be running a tournament in the first place. Having a standardized set of rules isn't really a good thing because it kinda stagnates the tournament scene. I don't want MLG and ESL to use the exact same format. It doesn't make sense.
Then you don't really have a universal ruleset. Most of the "rules" we need are common sense. While the tie breakers weren't publicly approved at least they followed the rules they laid out. Most of the league fiascos have been utter bullshit where rules aren't followed. I'm pretty sure they said they'd look into changing the tie breaker rule anyways, just not mid-season so I wouldn't worry about that. I'm actually thinking about how Brood War worked and it's my opinion that a lot of their success came from the standardizing of their rules between tournaments due to KeSPA. It gave the scene a lot of professionalism because OSL/MSL while having slightly different formats still had to abide by KeSPA rules. Laying out formats that actually make sense in tournaments and that are consistent is needed desperately in the LoL competitive scene. For all the shit KeSPA gets (and rightfully so in many cases) they are a large reason why Brood War was taken seriously. Even rules as simple as, "Don't type in-game chat unless it's relevant to the game," would do wonders. It'd be a lot better if players only typed "pause" or "gg" instead of having Phreak or Zenon or whoever have to hide the chat every game. I think that having standardized conduct rules for tournaments could go a long way for the LoL scene and since it's already a multi-national thing you would avoid having some government agency or big entity behind it like KeSPA. Dunno, I think it'd be a good idea for groups like Riot and NESL to sit down with the LoL community and high level players to agree on some rules that should apply at all tournaments.
You'll have to excuse me there because I didn't pay attention to Brood War from the very beginning. I agree that a standardized format could bring some professionalism to this scene, but the reason it's lacking it in the first place is complete disregard for common sense. The in game chat stuff is stupid in the first place. Unless the teams are blatantly flaming each other it really makes no sense not to see chat.
Asking the players for some rules they'd like to be in the tournament would be good, but that burden should fall on the tournament organizers of MLG, ESL, IEM, (-). Once one organization picks up a rule set that works the others are sure to follow, likely slightly altered with their own flair, but still a good rule set. The real issue right now is that we've had rules, but they aren't being followed or they're being changed mid tournament with nobody informed.

Standardization is irrelevant.
Making up and altering rules on a whim is the problem.

Ok so i'm a general noobie trying to play miss fortune properly. I normally build dorans blades > boots > Merc. Treads > BF sword but then i don't know which item to buy. I've seen some guides i've read recommend bloodthirster but i feel like Infinity Edge into phantom dancer works better, as i always feel my attack speed is too low even with W boost. Then, i don't know what defensive item to get after my IE or Bloodthirster: I think banshee's veil would be the best because of the health + magic resist + mana (caus of spamming E). Keep in mind i'm not level 30 yet, and i'm mostly just playing with friends at a low level.

DBlade > BT/IE > Zeal is a good core on any standard AD carry. You don't have to rush into PD from Zeal, though. The defensive item you choose depends on the enemy comp. If they're a super gay assassin team then GA is usually the best choice, even though its the most expensive. Against things that try to catch you out (aka ashe arrow, rammus taunt), QSS is the best. Banshee is good against things that QSS wont help with (burst, blitzcrank pull).

1) Q can lifesteal, but can't crit 2) Ult scales off plain AD
IE is nice in situations where you get to right-click people, but since your AA range is so short, a lot of the time, your opportunities to do that don't outweigh the greater Q/Ult damage you get from BT.
|
Merc treads are not as good as greaves most of the time, only get merc treads if the enemy team has a lot of cc or particularly scary ones (nasus wither, for example). Both IE and BT are good choices (also depends somewhat on your skill order, Q synergizes well with bt and W synergizes well with IE), if you've tried them both out and like IE better go ahead. Defensive items are situational, but a lot of the times QSS is one of the best options. BV (and GA) are not always cost effective because they cost a ton for passives that are only situationally useful. Also idk how you're leveling MF but I'm never spamming E when playing her. o.o

Pendragon is the first Riot employee to actually get it. Marcou was just trying to cover his own ass. Clearly he got dressed down for his impromptu appearance last week which just made everything so much worse.

Really? how many heros had a single target stun nuke? How many of them used the stormbolt animation? How many had windwalk variations? There is only so many "unique" things you can do if you just say "oh this is just like this but different"

even then kespa has made consistently retarded decisions that were detrimental to the growth of starcraft/esports. like how did the BW free agency system benefit players and fans? how did contractual disputes with Blizzard impact the confidence of outside investors and prospective players? what rules not inherent to the game were made and implemented by kespa so that brood war increased in 'legitimacy'?
Even rules as simple as, "Don't type in-game chat unless it's relevant to the game," would do wonders. It'd be a lot better if players only typed "pause" or "gg" instead of having Phreak or Zenon or whoever have to hide the chat every game. what a great example of how ridiculous rules ruin gameplay. do you realize that this was one of the greatest controversies ever to face starcraft? if not please read this. tl;dr kespa made a rule to ban anything other than saying 'gg' to forfeit and it resulted in a number of disqualifications of winning players. it had the entire community up in arms.

Does anybody know where Marcou's original explanation on the best-of-3 sets decision is? The one where he said that it was a "joint decision" between Riot and WCG. i can't find it anywhere, it's not on the redtrackers and I'm starting to get the suspicion that it was deleted to save face.

"Council" is just a figurehead title. Riot wanted to use it to bridge Riot and high elo players but nothing ever happened from it.
|
#1 reason I want to work for Riot is to actually interface between community and the company. I honestly dont think they mean to screw up this bad. Its just no one stops to THINK before they do stuff like this.
