update: gotta watch casy vs. gf yet.
rock vs. july this game july just raped the living shit out of rock. everything rock did july just countered flawlessly. interesting game from july because he played a very macro oriented style, although he did aggresively contain the entire game, attacking whenever he could. although given the amount of units july had he might have been at 200/200 when he did. rock's definitely a better player than what we saw but he got unlucky by getting julyzerg. still, i don't think rock is as good a player as pusan, and it shows a lot. the series not much that can really be said. the first game july just went all out micro against rock and tore him apart. second game july went all out macro and did the same. even in game one when he wasn't sharp he still totally destroyed rock, pointing out an obvious skill difference between the two players. good job to july this series.
boxer vs. oov this game rather than trying to play around with wraiths like last week oov totally played his own style and it paid off, he kept taking territory and got so big that boxer just couldn't scratch him, cheater terran fighting indeed. boxer desperately needed to commit to something, he kept doing really small attacks against oov while expanding slower and not defending those expos. IMO this map doesn't seem to favor harrassment oriented attacks despite its layout, although large attacks are still really strong. boxer should have commited to mass drops earlier in order to make oov fight for his economic advantage. unlike last week, where boxer showed his expert game management and strategy, this game oov showed his absolutely punishing macro and his ability to use it to overcome even boxer's precision attacking. it wasn't rape like july vs. rock but oov absolutely had control of this game from start to finish. this series very much boxer's strategy and tactics vs oov's macro. last week boxer used every unit he had perfectly to overcome oov's mass wraiths and tank line. this week oov used his macro and put all of his units exactly where they needed to be so boxer didn't have any holes to attack. easily the biggest clash of skill in all 4 series. prediction since the last map's 815 i think boxer will take it, but it will be a close game.
pusan vs. midas this game pusan pressed his DT's too long, i'm not sure exactly when, but there was a point where pusan just couldn't do shit to midas anymore with DTs and should have wrapped it up with goons, and then he probably would have won. good job by midas though O_o series pusan's ability to change up his play style in recognition of midas's macro domination tvp is very impressive to me. it's kind of a shame though that we haven't seen any macro vs macro games though. prediction midas, he's better ^_^

rock just got completely raped, but he had to play on maps that are definitely pretty hard for pvz and had he tied to 1-1 he would have been dead in game 3 anyway, since it would have been on cultivation period...

Midas vs PuSan Nice comeback. PuSan started good but let himself get played around too much by vultures. He left Midas with 4 SCVs. From there he should have switched to range goons and robotics far too earlier. He didn't do it fast enough and by the time he did, Midas was back in the game. I think he tried to end it with DTs too much. But Midas just had excellent mine placement and scan usage.
Rock vs July R.A.P.E. Rock is a good player. But he doesn't have the "zing". I dunno p users need the "zing" to play against someone like July. July played different from last week and played macro based rather than tech-based. And he played it just as perfect. His unit-management was simply amazing mid-to late game.
I think taking the island as soon as he can was a bad choice for Rock. Because he wasn't able to get money out of the island soon enough. Infact he covered it with cannons before it even had more than 5 probes on it. He used about 1000 minerals just on the island before he slowly started mining from there, which means he didn't have much units to attack with, and gave July to turn on his macro. I think if Rock just gathered units first, then took 3 and 6 at the same time, he might have been able to battle.
But it's july, so who knows.
Oov vs BoxeR Eh.... I really don't know why BoxeR didn't attack 3 as soon as he found it. He had a perfect chance and he stilll didn't budge. Instead he decided to expo and match Oov in a macro battle. Bad choice. Last week Oov played with wraiths, and this week he decided to play with his own style, and completely overwhelmed BoxeR. Not much to say to this. BoxeR just needs to play more smart rather than try to play 1 hour games every time.
Casy vs GooDFriend Damn I love this Casy guy. GooDFriend came out with a strong opening strat, but mnm has it's limits. Once the first attack was blocked, it was over. From there Casy just owned GooDFriend left and right with goli/tank. Actually there was a point in the middle where Casy completely screws up. Attacking from the front and dropping GooDFriend mnm/tank force, losing, and then losing about 4 dropships to turrets due to just mis-click?
But he was far too ahead to lose at that point. Just great play by Casy. Honestly I think GooDFriend should have just switched techs as soon as his attack seemed like it would fail, and expo to 6 while turtling until his macro could kick in.

Excellent review, Live2Win That's basically what ogn commentators said after each game.
I'd love to enjoy reading yours more in the future.

first post updated with oov vs. boxer game.

Wraiths are oov's style. Didn't you watch or read about his TvT domination in his first 2 MSL victories?
|
i know about those. he uses wraiths at times and is very good with them but that's not what he's most comfortable with IMO.
EDIT: it's not like they were a bad decision by oov. if there's one player you don't want to be predictable against it's boxer. but based on these two games (not a huge sample i know), it would seem that oov can player better against boxer if he just plays his own style because he's so good at it.

Yeah, that's what I thought. His nat would have been totally undefended if he'd gone for 3 with those 7-8 tanks.
Actually, I'd say Oov's 8-rax opening was useful. Boxer lost quite a lot of mining time defending (considering it was so early in the game) and despite the later factory, Oov's eco was better from the start thanks to it.

the whole oov-boxer game was based around the 3rd expo, basicly boxer needed to shut it down (which he couldnt) or go allin as soon as oov started it, allin mass drop i think =/ but boxer was between a rock and a hardplace for sure does anyone have the maps for next week?

Midas vs PuSan I just don't know what to say. Pusan's strat was good and excellently executed, but his brain stops working at times when he is close to victory. I predict a repeat of SO1 Pusan vs Boxer Semi-finals.

Bah, I liked Pusan before, but that was about the gayest display possible from him, and he still lost. He's known for being a macro player, but tried to pull this off? Meh... props to Midas for the comeback, and honestly, I hope he rapes the shit out of Pusan next week.
July beating Rock is really surprising. ^_^
oov and Boxer; I like both, I'd want Boxer to win for the sake of seeing a July vs Boxer final, but oov is the better player.
And finally, bwhahahahahah @ GF being eliminated. May he never make it into an OSL again.

evil teletubby:
dude, why would pusan play macro game vs midas? midas would stomp his ass so hard. playing micro style vs midas is pure genius. just because he doesn't play the exact style you want him to doesn't make him gay -_-.
^_^
oov and boxer are exactly even TvT. whoever wins this deserves it.
GF is good -_-. don't understand the hate for him.

GF is good -_-. don't understand the hate for him. considering pusan's macro i dont think him trying it vs midas would be suicidal at all. midas' biggest strength is probably his timing, vs such strong macro there really isnt as much of an oppurtunity for a strong timing push.

it's not like midas's macro isn't amazing or anything...

Um... no kidding, but Pusan is pretty much specifically known for his PvT macro... that's why I would've liked to see a straight up macro vs macro game between two of the best at it, instead of a lame cheese attempt that thankfully failed.
|
so would i, but honestly pusan's "lame cheese attempt" is exactly what he needed to beat midas on that map, but he fucked it up.
pusan's first goal is to win, then do what we want him to. i'm not gonna get pissed at him for that.
