I know this is suppose to be an upbeat thread, so sorry to be debbie downer here.
At this point in time, who gives a shit about the structure of the league when even the league itself was in question? I think most of us will take all the good news that we can get right about now.
Still so sad about Light girl though.

The rich teams are throwing money and the poor teams are disbanding. Nah, the small sponsors are drifting out and only the big sponsors are remaining. Now all it just depends on whether or not a big sponsor will form an 8th team. If that happens, BW should remain stable for a long, long time.
I wonder who would sponsor the 8th team though. Would be deliciously random if it was a fried chicken place like Kyochon. :p

This thread gave me hope...

Let's put it this way.
1. There's a lot of fans who care about BW(high ratings) 2. There's a lot of money in BW(high player salary) 3. There's a lot of players in BW(best RTS players in the entire world) 4. THere's a lot of infrastructure in BW(2 cable channels
So why is it that half the league is saying "Screw this. Forget it"?
KT can give Stats a 100% raise. Yet Hwaseung thinks a team with Jaedong on it is not worth sponsoring. Do you not see the problem here?

"most viewed E-sport event of the year" all this means is that it stands a better chance of surviving on mainstream cable than any other E-sport. it says nothing about how it compares to other possible programming the cable station can replace it with.
League of Legends and SC2 are not the competition here. It's baseball, comedy, reality tv, and mainstream drama that will push Brood War off of cable.
remember Brood War on MBCGame is not being replaced by Call of Duty or Halo competitions... its being replaced by music videos.
player salaries are rising because they are no longer replaceable by up and coming 16 year olds.

I'm glad there's some good news around. Grats to Stats (pun defiantly intended). Its great that Light is being so chivalrous like that. And lastly, I hope Violet recovers soon.

over all numbers are slowly falling with no growth potential in other areas. ever major corporations knows their is a hard ceiling on ratings.... the peak is over and "investment spending" will always be limited.
Intel/AMD/ZOTAC all make logical sponsors for a computer game just as Ford/GM/Chrysler/Honda are great sponsors for an auto race.
the problem with Brood War is that I can pick a computer up for free at the local "Salvation Army Donation Store" and it will play Brood War.
Therefore, an entire segment of international manufacturers is out as a sponsor.
Could the Indianapolis Racing League by a thriving//growing entity if Auto Parts Manufacturer's and Auto Maker's themselves would not be a sponsor of any events?

Nice to see at least some good news.
Too bad about the girl though, hope she and the BW scene can recover from this.

Stats and Bisu definitely deserve their raises. Hopefully Hydra gets a good one also. I highly doubt he was well paid coming into this season. Sad to hear about Light's girl. Hopefully the girl will be cheered up when her hero comes to visit her. Reach's twitter Q&A article MUST be translated.

I fail to see why you are disagreeing with me.
My point is that there is a ton of money to be made off of BW. But that the current setup is flawed. You have basically explained why that is the case.
So why is there a need for 1 sponsor, 1 team? Why can't it be "National Starcraft Association" where every game is sponsored by Shinhan, Olleh, SK Telecom, etc.? Or something similar? Why do you force companies like Hwaseung and Wemade to make huge investment of a single team rather than lesser sponsorships?
My only point is that there's enough stuff to make things work. There's just not enough ingenuity.

Thanks for this, finally some better news!

With all this money they're throwing around, KT should pick up JD. Imagine JD and Flash as constant practice partners...o.O
If Khan took on JD, I'd be equally giddy. SKT I don't think would fit him.
