Cheating: ... 4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles.
Out of curiosity, has this actually been tried before? I'm not sure exactly how it would work... I've never heard of it happening before either, but I'm guessing that hosts like to keep things organized, and that means sending out similar roles at the same time. For instance, say you are a cop, and you ask someone who claimed cop for their role pm time. If it's 30 seconds after yours, then it's likely that they are a cop that was messaged in the same batch as you. In any case, that would be really unreliable, as it would depend on the methods that the host used. However, if everyone claimed their times, it could become very useful in the late game. (Similar to how knowing what numbers people picked in PYP helps towards the end.) It was done in Mafia III: Resurrection. And yes, the roles were handed out by role (it is easier for the host because you can send the PM, hit back on your browser, change the name of the recipient, and hit send again and it goes to the new recipient now). The town could have figured out everyone's role just by looking at the timestamps of their role PMs. For a while all of the hosts randomized their PMs so this wouldn't work, but we decided it would be easier to just put in that rule so we don't have to think about it any more.
So, I'm the only host that opens a tab per player on firefox and places all the PMs so they can be sent pretty much simultaneously? O.O

GMarshal, where is the shield battery quote in your sig from?

O.O If it's a 9 player mini game then your method is good, but trying to do that for a full 30 player game would be difficult and prone to errors, I think.

ebwop: GMarshal have you ever hosted a standard game? the only games I've seen you host are the surprisingly normal mini's.

I would have sent the wrong role to at least 3 people and not realized it until halfway through the game when half the dts hadn't sent in checks or the mafia was missing a member.

Generally when you're PMing that many people, at least I get really neurotic and triple check every PM against the role list + after I sent everything out I double check to make sure that everyone got a PM and that they got the one they should have gotten. It's definitely one of the more stressful time periods you have as a host.

Personally I would go with 4. With the pace WaW is moving it is going to take another 4 weeks before that game finishes.

I'm pretty sure Amber is being sarcastic. Every town is trigger happy.
That reminds me, I need to run my day vigi game at some point. I predict a town loss in less than two days for that too.
