Nice man. I went to New York City last winter and it was a blast. There is literally so much to do in that place. Its no joke.

Uhhhh, there's a place called Cybercraft in Flushing in Queens that has a lot of starcraft fans; that's the best I can think of for a Starcraft fix in NYC

Here's all you need to know about NYC: + Show Spoiler +
Just kidding! (great scene from that movie, though... can't deny that, haters!) Is there not a 24/7 place with wi-fi you can go for a while? Don't be lazy!
|
30 minutes on the flushing bound 7 train is the answer if your looking to play, cybercraft is a great place and is as close to Korea as you'll get in the tri state, though you can probably find an Internet cafe in manhattan if you're only looking to watch.

@free wifi theres the lobby at my hotel i might go to later. Its gonna be annoying tryin to install gomplayer on the netbook i have with me though ><
@cybercraft ty for directions :D. I found out about it via the msl tournament they have but i dont ay bw :[. And i kinda just wanna watch/hang out. Im still pretty sad at my last sc2 playing before the lock ;o. (i failed to get diamond xD). A meetup would be cool too
I might go to cybercraft sometime later this week ;o.

In regards to the BW/SC2 events at Cybercraft, a lot of people just hang out and talk with each other. Either case, we do have a Teamliquid.net NY Facebook group to discuss meetups and the like.
The SC2 events draw more people because more people play SC2, so there's more of a chance of interaction. Also, there's always new people that come and play in the tournaments, as well as casters that provide entertainment as the day progresses. (At the end, it's usually just Pokebunny taking 1st place.)
The BW events usually draw the same regular crowd of veterans of interesting people, but we love BW with a passion. Plus, since most of the people are bad players of BW such as myself, we take competition less seriously. The best part of the event is usually the dinner at Picnic Garden (all you can eat Korean BBQ), where I personally feel it's a big State of the Game, except it's Brood War talk.

Well, the NYC MSL is on Saturday and lasts pretty late with the dinner, I'm sure someone would be willing to stay up all night and watch GSL the next morning.
|
Saturday! I'll most likely try to go :D. Any time frame on it though? Also my perception of time has been screwed, apparently to me sunday morning is 5am est on monday x_x

Well, Tournament starts at 2:30 because we are folks that cannot wake up early to play an event, plus most people come before then and talk to others to catch up. (Though probably less has happened since there was an event 2 weeks ago.) At some point, most of us will complain about being hungry and going to dinner. Time Frame: I would say probably 1:30 PM to ~10 PM?
I'm trying to get there earlier this time because a few of us want to play Mahjong before Cybercraft. (I have no idea if this is happening or not.)

Sounds great. Once i finish running around the city with sightseeing i'll probably make my way there and be there sometime between 5-7 o.o. Hopefully in time to see the later rounds.
As long as someone can fill me in on bw strat ><

If you haven't already I suggest you visit the highline park, it's a new-ish park built on top of no longer used rail platforms that span from 12th st up to 20smth I don't remember. Google it, the view is gorgeous. A favorite tourist friendly restaurant of mine is called Tonys di Napoli around 44th and broadway, you probably need to make a reservation but I highly recommend the seafood linguini for the price if youre into that. Huge family style portion that fills 3 easily. Basically less than 30 bucks for a metric ton of seafood. The sunset cruises are also nice there are a lot in NYC, I'd subscribe to Goldstar to get half price deals. South street seaport has a couple good boats plus it's a nice shopping area. For Halal food (NYC chicken and rice) you have to go to 53rd and 6th avenue it's world famous. Also subscribe to NYC groupon they have a ton of deals, not only ones on the main page but there's a new "live" feature that has smaller deals all over the city for the day only. Let's see, don't miss statue of liberty, ellis island, museum of natural history ( admission is free the price is only suggested, you can pay a couple bucks or whatever you think is worth it ). If you'll be here for a week get a 7 day unlimited metrocard. Can't think of anymore advice right now.
Also if you're going to cybercraft on the weekend take the LIRR train from 34th st Penn station to flushing main st it's 3x faster than the 7 and is way discounted on weekends.
