Introduction:
Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.
The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play.
Rules:
Cheating:
Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
- Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information.
- Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town or literally claim scum.
- Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role.
- Posting screenshots of anything.
- Posting any PM you received in connection to this game (except your role PM).
- Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip.
- Signing up more than once using smurf accounts.
- Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits.
- Sharing accounts with other players unless cleared by the host in advance. Otherwise, only you may post on your account.

Activity:
You must post in this thread once per day/night cycle and vote every day while you are alive. If you fail to do so, you will be warned or modkilled at host's discretion.

This is mod font. It is reserved for moderators. Please do not use it.
Question Font:
This is question font. Use it to ask the moderators questions about the rules. If you don't want to ask your question in the thread then feel free to PM host/cohost and then you don't have to use this font. If your question is game relevant then it might be posted in the thread by host without mentioning you.
Editing:
Editing is not allowed for any reason ever. Editing will result in a warning or a modkill at host's discretion. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again if you really have to edit anything.
Spam:
Spam is not tolerated, nor is any off-topic material. Do not discuss Proleague here. Do not talk about Starcraft II here. Play Mafia here. This also means you should condense your posts when possible. 15 one-liners in 30 minutes is unacceptable.
Inappropriate posts:
If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a host, flamewheel, or Mig before involving the TL staff. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally.
I'm going to warn you if you're being excessively unpleasant towards other players. If you disregard my warning then I'm going to modkill you. This is not DotA2.
Reporting posts:
The report button is a nice feature for regular TL, but not for this forum. We prefer to deal with things in house if possible to avoid confusion among the TL staff. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to the host, cohost, flamewheel, or Mig before using your report button. Please do not use your report button for anything other than inappropriate posts which you feel are not being dealt with adequately.

Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game.

Play to win.
This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing.
This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. If you want to leave the game then stop posting and PM the host.

Out of thread communication:
It is common for mafia to use a medium outside of TL such as QuickTopics or IRC or Skype to communicate during the game. Please be mindful that other players may be more tech savvy than you and they may attempt impersonate members of your team or attempt to infiltrate your chat. You use these media at your own risk.
Voting rules:
- Voting is done in this thread. You cannot PM me your vote.
- Please vote in the following format: ##Vote Qatol. Votes not done in the correct fashion may not be counted. Vote counts will be updated whenever someone feels like it but feel free to request one if you need it.
- No conditional voting.
- You may vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game.
- In the event of a tie the person with the most votes first wins (or loses).

Signups:
This game is open to players with 3 or fewer games on this forum.. Signups will remain open until the game is full. I might let you join if you have more than three games if they were played a very long time ago but let me know about this when you /in.

Modkills:
This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment might go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please PM flamewheel or post in the Ban List.
Replacements
This game uses replacements. If a player is modkilled then they will be replaced by a player on the replacement list if possible.
Clues:
There are no clues anywhere.
Out-of-thread communication
Out-of-thread communication between players is not allowed in this game unless you have permission from the host (which means that you are scum).
Time Cycle:
This game will follow a 48 hour day/24 hour night cycle. In case I am not able to post around deadline, any votes after the 48 hour mark (that is any votes after 20:00 GMT (+00:00)) will not count. Currently the deadline is 20:00 GMT (+00:00), but that may be subject to change. Actions/votes will be accepted up to the posted time, but not after (19:59 GMT (+00:00) is fine but 20:00 GMT (+00:00) is not).

The Setup
This is a semi-open setup. You will know which roles may appear in the game but not the count.
Role PMs:
Vanilla Townie
The most fantastic role to get in mafia! Your only tools are your sharp mind and your perseverance. Oh, and you can vote for the lynch like everybody else.
Cop
You are a cop or a detective or whatever. At night you can message the host and cohost the name of one of your fellow players and we will tell you his alignment. Beware of godfathers and framers who are able to mess with you. Oh, and you can vote for the lynch like everybody else.
Medic
You are a medic. Inspired by the numerous life-saver blogs on teamliquid you decided that you also want a piece of that so now you try to safe lives in mafia. You can protect one player each night from one single hit, be it scum or vigilante. Just message the host and cohost with your target and he'll be protected. Oh, and you can vote for the lynch like everybody else.
Veteran
You are a veteran. Many years of practice getting shot has rendered your partially immune to it. While everybody else only has a single night life, you have two. Oh, and you can vote for the lynch like everybody else.
Jailkeeper
You are a jailkeeper. Not only do you keep the jail, you also get to throw people in it. Every night you can PM the name of a player to the host and cohost and this player cannot be target of any other night actions but he cannot use his own night action either. Oh, and you can vote for the lynch like everybody else.
1-shot Vigilante
You are a 1-shot vigilante. Many years of practice shooting people has rendered you capable of shooting people. Unfortunately, you're almost out of bullets at this point. You actually only have one bullet left, so use it with care. PM the name of your target to host and cohost and this player will get shot in the face. Oh, and you can vote for the lynch like everybody else.
Goon
You are a goon. You can't do much other than bleed red. You and your scum buddies can communicate in this quicktopic [oopsie]. Oh, and you can vote for the lynch like everybody else.
Godfather
You are a godfather. You are the head of the mafia and as such you don't have to get your hands real dirty. When cops check you out, they will erroneously think that you're innocent! Muahahaha! You and your scum buddies can communicate in this quicktopic [oopsie]. Oh, and you can vote for the lynch like everybody else.
Roleblocker
You are a roleblocker. You block roles. Each night you can PM the name of one of your fellow players and he will practically not have a role for the purpose of that night. You and your scum buddies can communicate in this quicktopic [oopsie]. Oh, and you can vote for the lynch like everybody else.
Framer
You are a framer. You frame people and stuff. Each night you can PM the name of one of your fellow players and he will show up as the other alignment to cop checks, townies will show up as scum and scum as townies. You can't frame yourself. You and your scum buddies can communicate in this quicktopic [oopsie]. Oh, and you can vote for the lynch like everybody else.

Remember that you cannot talk to anybody about this game outside of this thread, unless you are both scum, and remember that you cannot ever edit your posts for any reason while the game is going on. Double or triple post if you have to but never edit a post.
Town wins when there are no more scum.
Scum wins when their numbers equals town during the day or nothing can prevent this from happening.
Scum KP is fixed at 1.
It takes #/2 rounded up votes to lynch somebody. In case of a tie, the person who got there first gets the prize.

Night actions are executed in this order:
Roleblocker
Jailkeeper
Framer/Godfather
Scum KP
Medic/Vigilante/Cop
Scum sends in who they want to perform the night kill and this person can get stopped by jailer. So if jailer targets scum killer and roleblocker targets jailer then scum will get to execute their kill. If vigilante hits framer then the frame will still go through and can possibly mess with cop checks.
If you are targeted by a roleblocker or a jailkeeper then you get a message about this the following day simply saying "You were roleblocked".
Cop still gets check results on jailed people. Vigilantes have their bullet refunded if their target was jailed but not if he was medic saved. Vigilante will have his bullet refunded if he targets the same person that scum or another vigilante targetted and this person died.

Oh and just like my first game, I would like to point out that the required votes for lynching rule is ambigous.
It takes #/2 rounded up votes to lynch somebody. In case of a tie, the person who got there first gets the prize. Mathematically, this means that with 12 players, you only need 6 votes to lynch someone since you do not round whole numbers, only fractions. Is that the rule's intent?
I'm suspecting that the rule is implying a majority lynch based on the "rounded up" statement. Given my suspicion is correct, the formula should be either ((#/2)+1) rounded down, or ((#+1)/2) rounded up. Those formulae all require more than half the votes in order to lynch someone, so as to define a majority. F.ex. 7 votes with 12 players, 6 votes with 10-11 players, 5 votes with 8-9 players, etc.
/end math nitpick.
(I'm suspecting this is because you game hosts are all copy/pasting the rules from a template somewhere, a template that is in itself ambigous).
Edit: Although I suppose that's why you added the "in the case of a tie" part. Which would make my suspicions incorrect and my argument pretty silly. So if that's the case, just ignore me!
Edit2: On the other hand, using the rule as suggested in the OP could lead to a scenario where a day starts with 3 scum and 3 town, where the only way for town to win is to "instavote" a mafia member(and where mafia can do the same, but with the advantage of a QT during the night leading up to that scenario). Is a mafia game generally not considered over once town no longer outnumber mafia during the day? I'm not familiar enough with the reasoning for the different lynching rules, so I'm asking more out of curiosity than anything else.

Although to be fair, I was just extremely bored. I don't think anyone would have noticed unless that very situation came up.

dunno i used the other rule because it would be easier to get a lynch and i think that's generally a good thing for town, i always figured the game just ended in 3v3 scenarios anyway (in scum victory). if you like floor #/2+1 better then that's fine with me.
